the post you’re referring to is just us brown people being disappointed that dev patel is dating a white girl.
before someone goes off of on me for being ‘racist’ (even tho reverse racism doesn’t exist), there’s nothing wrong with dating a white person. the only reason we’re disappointed is because dev patel, an influential brown man, is choosing to date someone who is white instead of a brown girls. white people and whiteness is very romanticized aesthetically amongst indian culture (im sure other brown/south asian cultures as well but i won’t speak for them) so he’s kind of playing in the disgusting trope of successful and/or good looking indian man dating a white girl instead of dating a brown girl because brown girls don’t match their western beauty standards as they are “dark-skinned, fat, and ugly” and dating someone white is considered an “upgrade” for them. (not saying that dev is doing this deliberately but he may not even realize that he’s participating in this internalized thing)
