"What the shit." You mutter, looking down at your hands.
A ghostly, translucent white. You're not sure how you have never noticed this before.
"Well then." You stare back up at the man. Well, what was the man. Instead of the man standing outside of the door, a black-cloaked figure stood infront of you.
"Greetings." A soft breeze whispered, like the wind was talking for them. "I am Death."
All you could do was stare. Was this a dream or something? You look back down at your hands.
"Hi, Death." You greet. Why was Death here?
Alright, that was a bit of a stupid question. You're dead, obviously. But didn't Death only come for the newly dead? Wait, how long have you been dead for?
"May I come in?" Death asked. Before you could even answer however, Death simply hovered in. Rude.
"Why are you here?" You blurted out. You mean, you're just simply curious. Here you were, having a Me day when suddenly Death shows up. What even.
"Even I, Death need Me days sometimes. It gets hard reaping souls 24/7." Death 'said,' despite it not coming from his mouth. Wait, does Death even have a mouth? God, so many unanswered questions.
Death sat down on a chair parallel to yours. "Come, take a seat, child. You probably have a few questions, yes?" Death questioned. You sat down on your chair and picked up your glass of wine.
"Yes, actually. First off, what the fuck is happening?" You interrogated Death.
"Right, newer spirits tend to not know things." Death said with a hint of smugness laced in his cold, dead whispers. "Well first off, you're dead. The exact reason why you're dead is because of blood loss due to a gun. Tragic." Death started, sarcasm embedded in his tone when he said the word 'tragic.'
"Second, I can 'revive' spirits who are dead and visit them. I usually only do this when said spirit is facing judgment or me days. Your revival is the latter." Death simply said, staring into your soul.
"Any more questions?" Death asked. Oh boy, this is going to be fun.
"Who was that man and why were you him?" You asked. Simple enough question.
"When it comes to first-time spirits, I need a way to 'access' your soul. Easiest way to do that is with your true love. Most people never get to meet them, so it's usually somebody they don't recognise." Death responded. So wait, that was your true love? Damn, you wish you could've met them.
"Is this my soul? You mentioned that you needed to access my soul. Is that what we're in right now?" You asked. If this was your soul, it's pretty cozy.
"Yes." Well that was straightforward.
"Why my soul? Why me instead of the million other spirits out there?" You asked. Death took in a deep breath, like he had been asked this question a million times. Wait, Death probably has been asked that question a million times. Whoops.
"Because I did. I looked for the soul I wanted and then entered. Most soul's interior are of outdoor places or crowded areas. I just felt like being indoors for once. Not many people have that as their interior, y'know?" Death sighed, looking out onto the misty terrain surrounding your apartment.
"I see." Is all you could really say. You looked into the horizon, staying silent.
This would be a long day with Death
