I just think a dynamic with Caleb in Erik’s place would be an interesting dynamic. In my AU, Caleb gets drafted and leaves MC alone. Ashamed of his disfigurement and the number EVER did to his mind but he couldn’t leave MC alone either. So he observed her from afar, watching her life go on without him. Him being nothing but a spectator as he hated every moment of it. When news finally came out that Caleb was dead, EVER lying about how he died in active duty. MC was devastated as she fled to the catacombs, kneeling and crying in a play area they made together when they were children. Her hands tracing along the chalk drawings on the wall before sobbing again. Caleb, torn between comforting her or not began to hum to her. Something that they used to do to calm the other down as Josephine would do the same too. As he did not wanting to leave the shadows but also desperately wishing to comfort her. That’s when MC assumed it was Caleb as a ghost and he saw it as an opportunity to finally FINALLY AT LAST being able to communicate with her again.
