Haslemere - a changing town
This is how Haslemere has changed and how it has affected the people and shops:
Tesco opened so small local food shops went bankrupt because everyone went to the supermarkets to buy food. They went to the supermarkets because it was easy to buy everything in one place and there was more choice.
More and more people are moving to Haslemere because they want to get away from big cities but still need access for their jobs (commuters), This has meant more houses being built.
A big change for Haslemere was the building of the Hindhead tunnel. It has meant less traffic coming though the town.
the museum was built so more tourists came and the hotel was built opposite so the tourists had a place to stay

i think a settlement function is what the settlement is used for, for example some settlements are built for farming so farming is the function:)
This video describes the two types of settlements: urban and rural and explains why their population differs. It also explains which groups prefer which kind...
A settlement is a place where people live. A settlement may be as small as a single house in a remote area or as a large as a mega city
brownfield sites- where buildings have been built and knocked down
business sites-an area where company offices and light industrial stuff are built
CBD- central business district= commercial and often geographic heart of a city
disperse- scatter or vanishing
greenfield site- Greenfield land is undeveloped land in a city or rural area either used for agriculture, landscape design, or left to naturally evolve
linear-extending along a straight or nearly straight line
nucleated- A nucleated settlement is a town or a city or a village that has formed around a certain point. This point could be anything that is important
rural- a geographic area that is located outside cities and towns
site- an area of ground on which a town, building, or monument is constructed
situation- the location and surroundings of a place
suburbanisation-the outward growth of urban development
terraced housing- a row of housing which is wall to wall
urban- an area with a high population like town or city
urbanisation- the physical growth of the urban areas
