Sign Ups for the Merlin Fic Conversion (formerly @the-merlin-fic-conversion-fest​) will open on August 1st and run for two weeks!

We at The Merlin Fic Book Club server are so excited to bring the Merlin Fandom a completely new event and we you enjoy it as well!

hello hello :)) the about pages talks about having 8 weeks to finish and submit the translation, and then immediately after that, it says 5 weeks. how much time is it exactly? and can you give some actual dates because one month might be busier than another? thank you so much!

Timeline of Events

August 1st: Sign ups open August 14th: Sign ups close August 15th: Gallery link of Original Creator submissions will be sent out with claiming form August 28th: Claims will close August 29th: Translation begins October 1st: Translated fics/podfics/comics are due in the Ao3 Collection, stagger revealed October 4th: Posting begins (gif makers will be assigned a day to post)

Everything should be finished right as holiday events start to appear!

Introducing the Merlin Fic Conversion Fest!

The Conversion Fest is hosted by the @merlin-fic-server mods and aims to bring more inclusion and diversity to the fandom.

For this fest, Creators may sign up as translators, submit their original works to be translated, or both!

For this event we are only accepting creations with text: fics, podfics, gifsets (with text) or comics

This event is open to all pairings and characters and does not have a rating cap.

/// How to sign up:

Sign ups will open on August 1st and run for two weeks There will be two separate forms, one for Translators and one for Original Creators. Fill out the requested information and submit!

At the end of the two weeks, an email will be sent out with the information of the Original Creators and you will have the rest of the two weeks to decide whose work you want to translate. To claim an Original Creator, you will fill out the form attached to the email.

This will be a first come, first serve type of claiming

/// Do I have to join the server?

Not at all! This event, while it is hosted by the server mods, is not being run on the server. This event is being hosted primarily via tumblr and email with posting to Ao3/chosen platform and tumblr.

However, the server is open to everyone and hosts a very positive and inclusive community full of cheerleaders where you can find other creators and get in touch more directly with the mods if you would like.

Frequently Asked Questions

/// May I sign up with a pre-selected partner?

Yes! There will be a spot for this on the sign up forms. Be sure to be clear about who your partner is so that I can ensure they are not accidentally included in the claiming gallery.

/// May I submit more than one translation?

For this event, we ask that you only translate one work at a time. However, if you have chosen a series to translate, you may translate the whole series provided that the author also gives their permission.

/// May I translate my own work for the fest?

For this event, we ask that you work with another individual instead of translating your own work so that every one has an opportunity to do something they might not have done on their own.

However, if no one submits works in your chosen medium, you may translate your own.

/// May I sign up as both an Original Creator and a Translator?

Yes! You may sign up as both!

/// What if I don’t like any of the options?

That’s okay! You don’t need to pick something if you’re not feeling it. Simply let the moderators know via email or Discord and we’ll remove you from the email list!

/// May I post my translation with more than one fest?

No. As a translation is not an ‘original’ work, we would prefer that you not submit it for another fest.

Rules

When signing up as an Original Creator, you may hold back one work that cannot be translated. You must name that work on your form.

Only completed works may be submitted, however this does not include works in a series.

As an Original Creator, you may submit any written work (fic, gifset, etc), however the Mod Team cannot guarantee that every Original Creator will get selected.

When translating your chosen fanwork, please be sure to keep the story the same. Do not make any changes to the story (i.e context, pairing, setting, etc) as you translate. If you are translating a gifset/comic, please be sure to keep the general theme and scenes the same even if you edit or draw them differently.

Submission

You may submit it to our Ao3 Collection using this link or find the Collection by name: Merlin_Fic_Conversion_2021.

Be sure when you’re posting to check the “This work was inspired by…” and fill out the information for the original work.

You may then post it to tumblr using this format (or a format of your choosing):

If you have translated a gifset instead, simply post the gifset to tumblr, tag the OP and link to the original work and tag us, @the-merlin-fic-conversion-fest, so that we may reblog it.

We will be tracking the tags #mfc2021, but we have had issues in the past and cannot guarantee that we will see your post if you only use tags.

If we do not reblog your post within 24 hours of posting, please send us an ask with a link to your work so that we can share it!
