“I’ve been doing alright, but now I’ll be much better, because I’m back here with you.” Noses softly touched in the form of a nuzzle, eyes lighting up with joy.

“Is it just me, or have you gotten cuter during the time I was gone, Coo?~”

🐾 “Probably? Yeah, I think so too!~” The villager couldn’t deny that being plumper and feeling healthier was definitely a good deal. After a few happy squeaks, they spoke again;  “You came back just in time for halloween weather! Lucky you!”

“Ah, yes! My absolute favorite time of the year, besides winter!” Link’s face gave a grin as he heard the mentioning of the fall weather. “What great timing for me to come back!~ Now we can go trick-or-treating, carve pumpkins, and do all kinds of halloween-y things!”

“She should be around he-” a little girl with a plush luma stared up at ike, brown eyes filled with a look of confusion, eyebrows furrowed. Clara knelt to her level, smiling.

“Ivy, do you remember who this is?”

“… Daddy?”

“Ivy, it’s your papa, Ike.” Smiling softly, he got down on his knees, his eyes at level with hers.

“….remember me?”

She looked at him for a moment, thinking. She remembered his face, definitely… “!!! Papa’s home?!” She smiled, throwing her arms around ike. Someone’s happy!

Hugging his daughter tightly, arms softly embracing her, Ike nuzzled Ivy’s cheek happily, and savored the heart-warming moment of reunion between mother and daughter, and the father who had left for war.

“Papa really missed you, Ivy. My, how much you’ve grown! You sure are sprouting like a weed, aren’t you?”

“I– no. Hell– no. I’m dreaming.”

Silver casually reached up and yanked her cheek.

“Ow! No….” She rubbed her sore cheek. “I’m clearly not.”

“…I was about to say, I clearly remember you and me going at it like rabbits until the break of dawn…” Giving her a dirty look, he had a slight hint of red in his cheeks as he remembered that night.

“A-anyways…that’s really wonderful..have you..named him yet?”

Silver beamed like a kid in a candy store.

“My stomach’s still plump and my legs feel like Nagamas jelly. … so… no not likely.”

She motioned for him to follow, and they made their way inside Castle Pherae’s expansive main hall.

“It was your father’s request that I let you name him– the prince, I mean, Silver’s voice echoed off the marble beams that held the ceiling in place, and they rounded a far corner to a massive flight of stairs leading to the second floor. They traveled down a narrow corridor and stopped in front of a set of wide, white double doors at the very end. Silver turned to Roy and gave him an assuring nod, before quietly opening one of the doors.

The room, painted a rich copper like all of Pherae’s walls, was surprisingly sparse with furnishings. A bookshelf set lined one wall, curtains billowed with a rogue breeze fluttering in from a canopy window across from them. And an ornate statue of Eliwood’s famous steed, Roderich, stood tall and proud behind a simple wooden cot.

Silver crossed the room and stopped at one end of the cot, and peered inside.

The little boy slept soundly. The wind played with his fine hair: deep, dark, rich red– darker than even Roy’s. The sun shone warmly on his pale complexion. and he gripped his hands into tiny, taught fists as he dreamed. His soft snores were the only sound in the room, aside from Silver’s heartbeat ringing in her ears from excitement.

She whipped her head around, and her eyes shone with pride. “Come say hi.” she whispered.

“He’s....absolutely precious...” Looking at his new son, Roy saw that Silver definitely wasn’t kidding about him looking just like himself. While his hair was darker than his, his face still had a heavy resemblance to that of the onlooking father’s. The sight was making him start tearing up, but only slightly, not enough that they would fall. He couldn’t believe his eyes.

“...gods..I feel awful for having left..if only I were there with you when he was conceived..”

“That’s a promise. I won’t ever leave your side, nor our new son’s.” Nodding in agreement, he placed his forehead against hers softly, closing his eyes in comfort.

“…So I have a son, hm? Looks just like me…I guess that runs in the family.”

“Hm, well I’d honestly say he looks more like Eliwood than you,” Silver mused, circling him. She tapped her chin in thought. “Well… ah. now that i remember it, that was the best night of my life. Your father’s a real stud, i’ll say that much.”

She reached her and jerked Roy by his shoulder before he could get a word out.

“I’‘m kidding! That’s terrible!”

“Just… stick around for your family? Please?”

She rose to her feet and wiped her eyes.

“You have a child waiting for you, Roy. You actually have a son, now! I swear by Narga, he’s just like you. Your hair, your face, those eyes…”

Lips met theirs for a quick second, arms wrapping around their waist as he felt their heart pounding with joy.

“I’ve never been more glad to be home, Coo. I missed you so, so, SO much~” Link felt their purr, and smiled. “I love you so much, too~”

🐾 “Have you been doing okay?~” Surely enough, their hair had its own soft glow of health, along with the 30 or so lbs gained, and their nose was a lot less pale; The body of someone in a much better state since they’d seen him last. Coo let their hand cup his cheek, grinning in relief.

The look in her eyes gave Roy a shiver down his spine. Silver was furious, and he knew he was to blame, one hundred percent. Did he know what to do to fix the situation? No, but he’d be damned if he let this stop him from finding a solution. But the first thing he needed to do, was to accept the responsibility of his actions, and suffer the consequences.

“….I’m sorry. I know these words may mean absolutely nothing to you, especially after not hearing a word from me for over a year, but I truly am. I don’t know what I got myself into. I was selfish, and foolish, and an example that my father would be ashamed to say that he raised..” His hand reached out to stroke her hair softly, his other arm reaching around her, and pulling Silver into a tight embrace, lips crashing onto hers. Necessarily, this wasn’t what he intended to do, but it would suffice, hopefully.

Still trembling, Silver returned the hug and accepted the kiss. She pulled back for air after a moment and ran her fingers through his messy, thick locks.

“I hate you…” she breathed, shuddering in his grip.

She kissed him again, harder this time, and sat back on her haunches. she ran through every insult– every possible venomous, vile, horrific lashing she could slash and score him with.

But she couldn’t go through with it. And her chest heaved from exhaustion.

"Good, because I hate myself, too." Returning the deep kiss, he pulled away, and looked into her eyes.

“……..” Words were caught in his head as he tried to think of how he could answer this. Finally,the sentence he was trying to form appeared.

“I don’t mean to hide you from these things. I would have told you, if I had the chance, but it came without warning. They approached me, and told me that they needed me to assist them in protecting the valuable convoy. I agreed, and left that morning. My mind was filled with thoughts of you, but not once did I have the chance to write to you..every day was fraught with danger and threatening events. I couldn’t waste my time nor breath worrying and letting my thoughts wander far.” Shamefully, he looked away, and lowered his head.

“I’m sorry, Silver…first the attack from the Berserker, nearly ending my life…and now this..I feel like I’m not worthy of someone of your caliber…what can I ever do to make it up to you?”

“You fucking scared me half to death, you ass!” Silver sobbed.

Carelessly, she threw herself at him and caught him in a crushing hug, sending them both to the ground in a heap. She nuzzled his shirt and cried for another minute, letting well over a year of worry and emotional distress out of her system.

When she was done, she got off of him and folded her legs under her, sitting a ways off to the side.

“How was I supposed to react?” Anger laced her blubbering. She felt utterly defeated, and too emotionally drained to think rationally.

Her head throbbed and her eyes burned.

“ ‘Okay, honey. have fun getting drafted and marching off into Hell while I sit here biting my tongue and trying my damnedest to not trigger a miscarriage!’ ?!”

She whipped her head towards him and bore daggers into him.

“WELL?!”

🐾 Having been lifted and cuddled, the happy mayor began to purr loudly, looking to hug the hylian tightly. “I missed you so much, I love you so much!~ Welcome Home!~”

“I was tasked with escorting an Outrealm Convoy to the farthest reaches of Pherae. Little did I know, it would take us nearly a year to finish the journey, and a little more so to return. The outside land was barren, and littered with thieves, barbarians, and monsters. Almost all of us were killed, either by the extreme weather that ravaged the lands, or by the foes that lurked and watched our every movement…”

Silver’s stare dropped to the floor. The smashed her hands against her face and forced back tears that threatened to fall. Her weight gave out from under her, and she fell to her knees in a weepy, pathetic looking heap.

“I don’t… get… it….” she murmured, sniffling back a sob.

Her hands tightened to fists and she smashed the ground angrily.

“Why do you keep these things from me?!”

Another sob caught in her throat and she punched the ground again before staring up at him. The morning sun beating down on them highlighted tears streaking down her red face.

Gobsmacked, Silver sat herself down on the nearest chair in the courtyard and rubbed her temples with shaky hands. A million thoughts swirled in her head, but none of them felt real.

She stared up at him, rummaging for words.

“Where did you go?”

How many years had it been since he had left the Smash Mansion for a very important reason? How long had it been since he had last seen the smile on his wife’s face, as she gave one him a weak, but withstanding smile before he turned his back, and walked away to go to war?

“Too damn long..” Muttering to himself, he held onto the hilt of Ragnell, reverse style, as he dragged both his feet and the tip of the blade across the gravel path that led to the doors of the place he could truly call home. Thoughts wandered in his mind as far as he traveled years ago, wondering if Clara would even remember him, if she would be upset that he had not a chance to write to her, letting her know that he was okay. Would she even still be there? There was only one way to find out, and that was to enter the Smash Mansion, which he gladly did so, but not before struggling to open the doors.

Finding it empty, Ike only knew to do one thing, and that was to call the name of the woman he loved.

“….Clara?”

A small blue haired girl was just coming down the stairs, head of hair an identical color to his own. Ivy was about… Three at this point? At the mention of her mother’s name, she turned to calm down the hallway leading to the lounge. “Mama! There’s someone here to see you!” She exclaimed.

“Alright Ivy, I’m-” she paused at the sight of her husband, eyes widening. “I- Ike? You’re…” she teared up, running over. “Ike! It’s been so long! You’re back…!”

A wave of relief washed over Ike, making him sigh as he held open his arms to embrace Clara, holding her tightly, stroking her hair softly as he comforted her.

“Yes, I’m back. And I’ve never been so glad to be back. It’s been way too long.” His arms continued to cage her, as he looked at her with apologetic eyes. “I kind of forgot to write to you, so uh…sorry about making you worry absolutely sick about me.”

She shook her head, smiling. “It’s fine, sweetie. I understand you were busy… It’s good to have you back.” She stood on her toes to kiss him, smile growing wider.

When she pulled away, she couldn’t help but smile more. “Things have gotten quiet, but it’s nice. A few of the others are around at the moment, and Ivy-” she paused. “Ivy’s grown so much since you were gone, wait until you see her!”

“I have no doubt she’s sprouted like a weed. She’s got my growth rate, that’s for sure.” Entwining his hand with hers, Ike gave Clara the softest smile, and laughed quietly at his own little fact, nodding in reply. He then took a second, and looked at her, a smirk on his face.

“She’ll be taller than you before you know it, one day.”

She pouted, shooting a glare at him. “Very funny- yeah, I’m short…” she huffed. “But I make up for it in my skills!”

“And your cuteness, can’t forget about that~” He laughed, and gave her a gentle kiss. “So where is my little girl, anyway?”
