Further adventures in bling: French artist Hubert Duprat has since the 1980s collaborated with the larvae of the Caddis fly to create tiny gem sculptures. By supplying them with gold flakes, opal, turquoise, rubies, and pearls he has encouraged the aquatic larvaes natural urge to protect themselves by constructing elaborate armors from whatever they have around them, which they “glue” together using excreted silk.
