So what I’m getting from this graphic is that people are trying to pin the blame on Fernando for the FIA’s poor decision making?!?! Well done F1 fandom, flawless logic as always.
Here is my rebuttal then, in Fernando’s “defence” (in which he needs none):
1) Magnussen contravened a stated rule. The FIA, rightly, penalised him for that, as stated by the stewards in the sanctioned document. He didn’t give Fernando enough space and pushed him onto the grass. It’s up to the stewards how harsh a penalty they gave him. I personally think it was too much. He should have finished behind Fernando, as it eventually cost him those two places to Vettel and Button, but to take him out of the points was overkill.
2) For those that believe Fernando “got off lightly” for the grid infraction, remember that it was the teams mistake, not his. They penalized Fernando for a mistake that was none of his doing. They may also chose to fine the team for that after all is said and done. So don’t fucking tell me he gets away with stuff, because that is utter bollocks.
3) The precedence for the front wing infraction had already been set by the FIA the minute they chose not to investigate the Rosberg/Hamilton incident. Rosberg hit Hamilton, causing him to get a puncture and his race was done. Fernando hit Vettel, did more fucking damage to himself (I’m pretty sure Vettel came away unscathed) and limped home well behind those three cars. Vettel had no issue, Red Bull never complained, so in that incidence it was definitely no harm, no foul.
Some of you may not like him as a driver, but don’t expect me to sit by and watch blame attributed to him that he does not warrant or deserve. I’ve supported him for 10 years and seen him receive all kinds of abuse but this is totally unfair.
