[ kaoru doesn't really scream flamboyant (looks at syo), he's really the opposite sometimes BUT i suppose he can be when he's talking about his grades/academic stuff? since syo is the fashionable and famous one, kaoru tends to get a little show off-y about school and his life goals. ]

She’s a nervous wreck, at best. She’d spent the night with a churning stomach full of butterflies and a dizzy head full of clouds. There were still loose ends to tie with Saki, but for the most part, the past had finally been put in the past for them, and the running could finally come to a stop. They’d fixed it together, at least a little bit.

There’s just one last thing to fix now.

2:47. She’d gotten here early, she knows. He’d said he’d wait for her, but somehow, that didn’t seem appropriate anymore, so she’d be the one to be there first and have him come around at his own time. It seemed fair, didn’t it?

… Still. The wait was long.

He was feeling less anxious and more nervous. 

His backpack felt heavier than usual, even though he only had two classes that required textbooks. At 2:50 he was out for the day, giving him ten minutes to spare.

Kaoru wasted five minutes talking to his teacher about the anatomy homework, and another minute pretending he wasn't in a hurry.

And right where he said he'd be at three was Masami. They had to be mature about this, right? She said everything was taken care of, no loose strings. And he took her word for it.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting. How long have you been standing here?" Kaoru let his backpack hit the pavement. His laptop wasn't in there, just books. 

He wanted to say I missed you but that didn't sound right. Deep down he wanted this to work.

Oh, please, for the love of God — Kaoru wasn’t planning on confessing, was he? Saki’s in town, that’s hard enough as it is, suppressing those old feelings on top of trying to figure out what she felt for her now… So if Kaoru were to admit to liking Masami romantically—

She just wouldn’t know what to do.

Her hands are shaky, and it takes an extra five minutes to reply to type up a simple reply that had the tone of the exact opposite of what she was feeling.

Masami would more than likely shoot him down if he said it outright. On the list of things Kaoru wanted, that was at the bottom.

He'd taken plenty of risks before; choosing his brother's health and well being over his own, going to medical school, moving away. Masami was another calculated risk, one he couldn't predict the outcome of.

Staring at her reply, something felt off. Sure, Masami picked the right words, but Kaoru had a feeling she didn't mean them. He was being the opposite of pushy, at least he thought so. But who was he to judge?

Aside from his brother, there were few people he let himself get close to. A doctor with a soft heart wouldn't cut it.

Waffles: Write a drabble about either of our muses making breakfast for the other.

If breakfast couldn't get his brother to crawl out of bed, then nothing would. Kaoru preferred to make a traditional breakfast over a western-style one. But rice and fish wouldn't make Syo come into their shared kitchen, half-awake and not hibernating the entire day.

The pop! from the toaster sent a warm smell through the kitchen - two slices for Syo while Kaoru watched the rice cooker. 

As if on cue when he put the butter and jam out on the counter, Syo was half awake and the first words he said sleepily was "Mornin'"

"You're finally awake, I thought you'd sleep all day." There was enough space at the counter for two - they'd done nearly everything as a pair, and breakfast would remain one of those things. "If you don't mind helping me, we c-"

"You're worrying about me again, let me handle the rest."
