Why Labels Matter
PSA: If you're a woman who's into both men and women, that's called "bisexual." You can use the LGBT community umbrella term "gay" (or "queer"), but you do a disservice to lesbians if you call yourself a "lesbian." How? 1) You're bucking the dictionary itself. 2) You perpetuate the myth that all lesbians are really into men. So, don't be that gal. Own who you are. It's okay to be bisexual. It's also okay to figure it out as you go through life. 🏳️🌈
The War on Labels
Real Talk: It appears that early twenty-something women hate labels. Well, people died and have been oppressed to fight for the right for you to reject those labels. We still fight! Definitions are definitions. Words have meaning. There’s a war on labels from the young millennials, who have no idea what it was like to be twenty in 2004 and project we’d one day have marriage equality, but not until we’re at least fifty or eighty. They don’t understand the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s either. Well, maybe you don’t want labels, but the labels are bigger than you. If you want to toy with or make fun of labels people died to dignify, then I have to ask what your problem is. It’s far more respectable to say you’re a “no labels” person than to try to tear down the identities the history of LGBT people have fought, died, and been abused to establish. Don’t be the enemy. Respect history. Just be no labels if you aren’t ready to identify what you are. If you don’t like calling yourself a lesbian then don’t. Your status is TBD.
Nobody should live by the definition of their identity. They can’t just be one thing: Lesbian, and have that be all there is to their identity. People are multi-faceted, multi-dimensional. What you’re asking ‘Lesbians’ to be, is to only show one side of themselves if they want to be labelled as that. That’s not what being human is. I like calling myself a Lesbian. I AM a lesbian. But that’s not all I am, and I can be other things and do other things, without my identity as a Lesbian™ being compromised. And about a few hours before, I let it slide with you calling me bi because I didn’t want to drag that pointless argument on. But let it be known that I hate that your ignorance, because it caused you to mislabel someone who identifies as a lesbian. And while my problems aren’t as drastic or dramatic as yours, they are valid problems I have faced as a LESBIAN. So get it right.
You sound lesbophobic. When there aren’t laws against me and when people don’t shoot at me for being gay, then we’ll talk about the lesbian label no longer being necessary. Until that day, you’re absolutely wrong. Deal with it or don’t. That’s on you. It seems you’re bothered by the truth.

so basically according to you it'd be ok for me, a lesbian, to run a blog called "the bisexual experience" despite not being bisexual, or what about "the-trans-label" as a cis person? the word lesbian is a word for women who are EXCLUSIVELY attracted to other women. i don't see why you can't just change your url if you want to reblog straight porn. it continues the society wide idea that lesbians all secretly like men too. even though you're not a lesbian, your blog is called that.
I’m getting really angry now. This is ridiculous. I’ve been dating girls and sleeping with girls exclusively since I was 14, not that I need to justify my ‘qualifiations’ for the URL I have. I’ve explained so many times why my blog is called the lesbian label and how it isn’t meant to be reflective of me but more a reflection of the labels people impose upon us. Like you are with me right now. And also, can I just say that just because someone reblogs something doesn’t mean they are that. Just because I reblog something straight doesn’t mean I’m straight or that I want that. It means I appreciate that post for what it is and I’m reblogging it. Because i like women doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate other kinds of love. It also doesn’t mean I want that for myself, I can appreciate someone or something without wanting it. stop reading into everything I post and criticising me for it.I have no desire to be with a boy, none at all. The only reason I don’t like defining myself as a lesbian is because at the end of the day I think we fall for who we fall for and I dont know what the future holds. And whether I was strictly 100% lesbian and only ever would consider being with a female or not, doesn’t change the fact I can still appreciate and reblog things that include males. For fuck sake, being a part of the queer community is all about inclusivity and open mindedness, not condemning people because they don’t fit the mould you want them to. There are different ways to be gay, none of them are any less valid than the other. There are different types of gay, none any less valid than the other. Yes I know what the word lesbian means but it’s not exactly like I’m promoting the hetrosexual agenda on my blog, almost everything I post is gay! I reblog pictures and art, some that are straight and that doesn’t change the validity of my sexual orientation or make me less gay because not all my posts are exclusively girl and girl. It just means I like the post. I’m not changing my URL because the word lesbian is in it. If you listen to me and how I made my URL you’d know why it is what it is. my whole life is about girls, I’m perfectly justified in naming it that. It’s a part of me, a part of how I came out, a part of how I found an escape on a website that for the most part (with the exception of messages like this) is about supporting and celebrating the differences in us and educating each other, building each other up, connecting through art across borders of all kinds, because at the end of the day we are all human beings worthy of love and respect.Just because I’m gay in a different way to you and just because you might identify as a lesbian and for you that means all straight posts are gross and unworthy of being on your blog, doesn’t make me less gay. Sometimes posting something doesn’t mean I want that for me, it can be about objective appreciation. I’m honestly really sorry if I have offended anyone or you don’t get it or get what I’m saying. But please try to, please think about it for a moment. Please try to understand instead of criticise. And if you can’t understand what I’m saying then ok, you can either unfollow me cause that’s fine or just try to accept the fact that not everyone is going to feel the same way you do about porn, art, sexuality, life, etc so just shut up and respect it.

For Orlando. For my home. For peace.
I love Orlando. It was the first place I felt free. They have a healthy LGBT community there, one that doesn't revolve around alcohol or drugs but community. I first lived in Orlando when I was twenty, and attending Gay Days at the Magic Kingdom was life changing. All the queers wore crimson, and for one day I was in the 90% instead of the 10%. It was empowering. 🏳️🌈

thank you boo, love you
When fake lesbians won’t listen to real lesbians, it adds to the problem real lesbians face. Bisexuals aren’t lesbians. The person who runs “the-lesbian-label” isn’t a lesbian. This bisexual and twenty-year-old is arrogant enough to think she can abuse a label. She doesn’t respect the lesbian label. Call her out for it. She hates that.
Are you kidding me? I just laughed so hard at your URL. Real original. You’re a mature one. At least your immaturity is kinda proof as to why you don’t get anything I’ve said
@the-real-lesbian-label Creating a new URL like that is a level of petty that indicates your close-mindedness. Do you get some award having the ‘exclusively lesbian’ label? Gold stars? Printed out and framed? Jesus. What are the problems ‘real lesbians’ face anyway? As far as I know, the problems I face come from my family not accepting who I love because they’re Christians, and they think it’s a sin. If I liked both guys and girls, they still wouldn’t accept it. Same problem. Whatever other people think about who I like is whatever they think, and you can’t control it. So there’s no point trying to paint an image that ‘lesbians only like girls and only like things related to girls’. You’re walking out of the closet and sitting in a box. Please stop being so close-minded and judgemental. Let people live their lives. @the-lesbian-label isn’t harming or hurting anyone, she’s just living her life in a way YOU don’t like.
Laws discriminate against us. I don’t even feel safe going to visit my home state. You think being lesbian and straight are the same? That statement does harm to the lesbian community. She’s free to call herself gay all she wants. But no dick lover can call herself a lesbian. Look it up in the dictionary. When people try to kill you for being straight then we’ll talk. Until then, come back when you grow up, girl. You have no idea how hard it is to be a lesbian.
Funny that you think I’m straight. You’re basing all your accusations on what Emma posts, which like I’ve said, is her her decision and her life. She has already mentioned that just because she posts straight porn doesn’t mean she’s into it. Calling her a dick lover is a moot point. She’s not a dick lover. Also, your patronising statements like ‘you have no idea how hard it is to be lesbian’ is very contradicting, since Emma IS a lesbian (and so am I, for that matter), and you’re currently making her life much more difficult.
Emma isn’t a lesbian. She stated that today. She doesn’t respect the need for a lesbian label. I don’t see why it’s so hard to see that’s wrong. She has a public blog. Anyone is free to disagree with her and defend the lesbian label. It’s that simple.
‘free to disagree’ and what you’re doing now is very different. Like in my previous reply, you are specifically asking people to ‘call her out’. That’s not disagreeing freely. I am disagreeing freely with you, and I am not asking other people to stand by my point and bombard you with similar opinions.
The difference is I’m standing up for an oppressed community. I’m standing up to someone who wants to erase me and who will make men think they can rape lesbians straight. Who wouldn’t want people to tell Emma she’s wrong? The dictionary and lesbian history are on my side. I’m part of that history and actually make films for my community. You’ve likely seen a lot of my work. It’s my duty to defend my community. I won’t back down or apologize for standing up to my enemy.
Like I’ve said, Emma is not the enemy here. Even if I watch the occasional straight porn to get off (Jesus, when a southeast Asian overshares with you, you know it’s serious), it doesn’t mean I like penis. She’s not erasing anything, and you’re wasting energy on a person you’re supposed to be defending. The Saviour complex isn’t helping anyone when you’re only being provocative. I probably have watched your films, but if this is the attitude you have, I’m not sure I want to watch them any longer.
By saying you can call yourself a lesbian when you’re attracted to both men and women… that’s violence. That’s the definition of erasure. She thinks the lesbian label is a joke. That’s the origin of her URL.
If you’re jerking off to straight porn then you aren’t a lesbian. You’re still gay, but you aren’t a lesbian. You can tell yourself otherwise, but words have meaning. Identity has meaning. You can attempt to redefine the dictionary and history, but you’ve already failed. Good luck, bi girl!
To be more specific, negation is erasure, which is violence.
And not that you know who I am, but you won't be seeing many films at all if you really wanted to boycott me... if you knew who I was. My cousin has an Oscar for acting, and I date actresses on the top lesbian shows/films. That's why I'm anonymous.
If the early twenty-something crowd of women think lesbians can be sexually attracted to men then we have a lot of work to do! Again, it's okay to bisexual. It's okay to call yourself gay. But, like it or not, "lesbian" is a label that has a specific meaning.
so basically according to you it'd be ok for me, a lesbian, to run a blog called "the bisexual experience" despite not being bisexual, or what about "the-trans-label" as a cis person? the word lesbian is a word for women who are EXCLUSIVELY attracted to other women. i don't see why you can't just change your url if you want to reblog straight porn. it continues the society wide idea that lesbians all secretly like men too. even though you're not a lesbian, your blog is called that.

Love this and u ❤💛💚💙💜

When fake lesbians won’t listen to real lesbians, it adds to the problem real lesbians face. Bisexuals aren’t lesbians. The person who runs “the-lesbian-label” isn’t a lesbian. This bisexual and twenty-year-old is arrogant enough to think she can abuse a label. She doesn’t respect the lesbian label. Call her out for it. She hates that.
Are you kidding me? I just laughed so hard at your URL. Real original. You’re a mature one. At least your immaturity is kinda proof as to why you don’t get anything I’ve said
You’re only twenty, baby. Grow up. Someone had to fight for the lesbian label since you’re disrespecting it. You need to listen when lesbians set you right.
This is the last message I’m responding to because I don’t have time for it. I’m actually not disrespecting anyone but you are. You’re issue is you think my way of being gay makes other people question and doubt the validity of your sexuality, and then you’re doing the exact same thing to me. You aren’t even trying to listen to what I’m saying. And also, the lesbians are setting you right. 99% of people on here agree with me, not you. Go shove your snarky ‘baby’ comments elsewhere and judging me for my age when you’re so caught up inside your own head you can’t admit when you’re wrong. Just stop. The fact you’ve made a blog called the real lesbian label and the whole entire thing is just this message with you reblogging it adding hateful comments. That’s so pathetic, so immature, so attention seeking. Just unfollow me, block me, move on.
Naw. I think I’ll stick to my mission of saving real lesbians from fakers like you!
That’s bordering on harassment. I hope you know what you’re doing is an equivalent to psychological bullying.
@sarcasstic-world My defending my community, as well as the dictionary, is harassment and bullying? You’re the ones supporting violence against lesbians by erasing our very identifier as meaningful. You’re the bad guy. Get it? I’m caking you out for being the bad guy. Okay?
Specifically focusing on Emma, asking people to ‘call her out’, is harassment. That’s not called defending your community, so don’t sugarcoat it.
Okay, well being a lesbian is literally dangerous for me. It’s life or death when I’m home. So, I’m I a war zone mentality. I see a woman running a blog that I thought celebrated lesbians. Today I learn that she’s making fun of our very identity! That’s war to me. That’s where I’m coming from. I’m defending my people from those who wish to erase us.
This war zone mentality of yours is aiming fire to friendly people. Emma, and more broadly lesbians who post straight porn, are not your enemy. Having said that, I’m sorry that you’re living in a country that is making it risky to live your life the way you want to. My country is against gays too but they don’t shoot at us, so it’s true that I don’t know what it’s like to be a lesbian in your country. I only hope you aim your fire at where it matters, and not turn against the people you want to defend.
My country is America. They shoot at us and rape us all the time. We're in a war zone. Lesbians who post straight porn aren't lesbians. That's not a thing. Wow!
so basically according to you it'd be ok for me, a lesbian, to run a blog called "the bisexual experience" despite not being bisexual, or what about "the-trans-label" as a cis person? the word lesbian is a word for women who are EXCLUSIVELY attracted to other women. i don't see why you can't just change your url if you want to reblog straight porn. it continues the society wide idea that lesbians all secretly like men too. even though you're not a lesbian, your blog is called that.
Like in my previous reply, you are specifically asking people to 'call her out’. That’s not disagreeing freely. I am disagreeing freely with you, and I am not asking other people to stand by my point and bombard you with similar opinions.
What you're doing is supporting the erasure of lesbians. Think about it. Deal with it. You're asking a lesbian leader to not call out a bisexual woman who thinks lesbians are silly. That's not gonna happen.
so basically according to you it'd be ok for me, a lesbian, to run a blog called "the bisexual experience" despite not being bisexual, or what about "the-trans-label" as a cis person? the word lesbian is a word for women who are EXCLUSIVELY attracted to other women. i don't see why you can't just change your url if you want to reblog straight porn. it continues the society wide idea that lesbians all secretly like men too. even though you're not a lesbian, your blog is called that.

The difference is I'm standing up for an oppressed community. I'm standing up to someone who wants to erase me and who will make men think they can rape lesbians straight. Who wouldn't want people to tell Emma she's wrong? The dictionary and lesbian history are on my side. I'm part of that history and actually make films for my community. You've likely seen a lot of my work. It's my duty to defend my community. I won't back down or apologize for standing up to my enemy.

so basically according to you it'd be ok for me, a lesbian, to run a blog called "the bisexual experience" despite not being bisexual, or what about "the-trans-label" as a cis person? the word lesbian is a word for women who are EXCLUSIVELY attracted to other women. i don't see why you can't just change your url if you want to reblog straight porn. it continues the society wide idea that lesbians all secretly like men too. even though you're not a lesbian, your blog is called that.
Love this and u ❤💛💚💙💜
thank you boo, love you
When fake lesbians won’t listen to real lesbians, it adds to the problem real lesbians face.
Also, your patronising statements like 'you have no idea how hard it is to be lesbian’ is very contradicting, since Emma IS a lesbian (and so am I, for that matter), and you’re currently making her life much more difficult.
I never called you straight. Where did I say that? I'm saying you/her/anyone can use the community umbrella term "gay," but any woman calling herself a "lesbian" who doesn't exclusively like women is a liar. She's also perpetuating the myth that there are no lesbians. I'm here to simply defend the lesbian label. If you're against that then you're no ally to lesbians. Real talk!

You're the ones supporting violence against lesbians by erasing our very identifier as meaningful. You're the bad guy. Get it? I'm caking you out for being the bad guy. Okay?
