Fun facts about me:
My username is named after the Greek goddess Nyx goddess of the night because my initials in real life are PM
I read the Harry Potter series as a small child and have had a life long obsession with it. I even have two marauders themed tattoos (I have a tattoo of Nyx too)
When I was a kid I used to dress up as Batgirl everyday (my brother ripped the costume, I will never forget that)
I am twenty something years old
My header image is a collection of characters I think are just like me !! (kin list)
I use they/them or she/her. I honestly do not mind as long as the term used is a conventional pronoun for a person to use
Fandoms:
Marauders (Harry Potter)
What we do in the shadows (tv show)
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K (tv show and english fan translation of the manga)

Worst Halloween — Mary sets Remus up with one of her friends at a Halloween party to Sirius's displeasure | Sirius POV, very light angst, wolfstar [T | 1.9k]
How You See Me — My take on Snapes worst memory. | Lily POV, snily (open to interpretation), angst [T | 2.3k]
If I were Filtch and I was just doing my job at school for children who all have the one thing I always dreamed of having, and who all think they're better than me because they have it, and then I found my cat, petrified, I would have blown a gasket too
Barty is smart, smarter than he wants to be. Barty likes to be underestimated; he likes to be ignored, because everything is easier when no one is looking at him. When no one sees the way that he understands, the way he is breaking down every interaction to find the best way to get what he wants.
I love Peter pining for Sirius. I love it when Peter is so in love with Sirius, seething as Sirius entertains every girl who asks, thinking he is a terrible friend for wishing Sirius would just stay single. Feeling sick when Sirius starts to date Remus, because why him? Why not Peter?
Okay I felt bad about clogging up @apcqlypse’s comments so I am just gonna make a post inspired by theirs which you should take a look at here
I was just talking to my friend a few days ago about the rise in queer media and the way that people are reacting to mlm content and how objectifying those responses are.
She said that, like me, and I assume many of you, she has been reading gay ships for her entire adult life, and when she used to see things that said “girls fetishize gay people” or similar, she would be offended because what does anyone care about the gender of the people in a story, as long as they're falling in love in a compelling way.
Recently, since this bump in queer media, like Heated Rivalry, though I do not think that show is to blame, she and I have both witnessed people talking about queer men in a way that is quite frankly disrespectful. The fetishization of gay men, while always present, is so bad right now that it is hard to interact in fandoms we have been in for years. So I ask myself: Why?
I do not think having queer men in media is bad, and I believe one of the reasons women enjoy mlm media so much is that there is an obvious lack of misogyny within it. That lack of misogyny is nearly impossible to find, even in things where women are well-written well. I am going to use Maddie Han from 911 as an example because she is my favorite female character of all time. She's a well-developed character with meaningful relationships. Her story focuses on a stigmatized issue, shame, complex emotions, and her overcoming them. Yet, fans often undermine her in favor of the gay ship. Why?
I think, for me, this was an awakening, because yes, Buck and Eddie (the gay ship) are definitely compelling, but not more than Maddie and her love interest are. This is not isolated; there have been many well-written female characters recently, like Claudia from Interview with a Vampire or Lois Lane from Superman. Hell, even in old shows, Morgana has a painfully similar story to Merlin in the BBC show, yet that fandom vastly prefers him.
To my understanding, the reason Buck is preferred over Maddie is that people find him attractive. Maddie (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt) is not a young man, and the consumers of this show are primarily straight women. They find Buck to be sexy, and I know they do because I am in this fandom; I have spoken to these people. So my question is, why do people prioritize attraction when viewing characters? And does this sexualization affect people the same way pornography does?
I believe the answer to both of those questions to be yes. If you are choosing to view something or someone through the lens of attraction, the sexualization of that someone is only natural. The viewing of something as sexual is the entire issue with pornography. The dehumanization greatly affects a person's brain.
I also agree, I think the general rise in homophobia has a lot to do with it. Some people have started treating mlm ships the way men have been treating wlw ships for years. I cannot even express how often I see videos of people expressing attraction to gay ships online. I even see “both at the same time” commented on edits of Naruto and Sasuke or Spider-Man and Winter Soldier, which are male-dominated, child-focused fandoms. It's a reflection of something I have witnessed for years, and it is hard to ignore.
I know those are all fictional characters, but I chose those specific characters to highlight just how normal these types of comments have become. As Iman said, “The issue is people acting like queer people are just a cute, sexy TV show plot line instead of actual human beings.”When something becomes normalized, your brain categorizes it that way.
I am not saying enjoying mlm ships is bad. I am not saying being attracted to characters is bad. I am not even saying that being perverse is bad. However, there is a point of normalization that is bad. When these things start to affect real people, there is a problem, and it is important to recognize that problem. When people comment it under videos of actors or cosplayers, that is bad. When people start commenting those things under videos of regular people, that is bad. Boiling a man loving man relationship down to sex is bad.
Thank you in participating in my thoughts today. Please let me know if you agree, or if you think I am creating, changing, or expanding the problem. And again, read this
YES i agree with all of this-- you articulated the issue much better than i could!!
sexism plays such a huge role in this discourse as well, i think its great that you brought that up! we NEVER see wlw ships or even female characters in general get the same hype as guys do (e.g. claudia iwtv, the franchaela bridgerton discourse....)
and again i think that's because a large portion of the people blowing up shows like heated rivalry are just doing it because they like seeing attractive men in sexual situations. which is fine! obviously people are going to be attracted to sexuality and there's nothing wrong with that. but these "both at the same time" comments (and ai-generated images. ew) are so reductive it's like people are watching the show with their eyes closed!! this is not about you!!
its gotten to a point now where it feels as though people only view and discuss queer media through a heavily sexualized lens, which really erases the actual nuance and emotion that queer people, like heterosexuals, experience in their relationships (e.g. heated rivalry being received as Hot Hockey Player Sex, the reception of leviticus... :/)
this becomes even more detrimental when people are unable to separate fiction from reality and sexualize random strangers on the internet the same way they do to fictional characters from an explicit movie / show.
we're at a point now culturally where queer people and queer media are either fetishized, made into a joke, or dismissed entirely– either way, we end up being dehumanized
I do wanna say that, in regard to the Heated Rivalry of it all, as you said, the massive sexualization of Shane and Ilya's relationship removes a lot of what their relationship is. It really is dismissive of Shane and the shame he feels, or Ilya and the responsibility to his family, or the way that people pry into the lives of celebrities (I will say, I do not like watching sex being depicted, so I have not seen the whole show, but it was still compelling without it).
And again, I do not think the fact that sex is depicted in the show is bad; I think it's actually a very good thing. Queer people should see attraction expressed in mainstream media, they should see that sex is not dirty or wrong, but ideally that can exist in a realm where Ilya and Shane are not interchangeable with any two other attractive men because "as long as it's sexy".
absolutely! i'm glad to see a show about queer sexuality become so mainstream because i think it represents a huge milestone for the community as a whole. i blame the viewers who take it as license to treat real people like sex objects, as well as the media outlets and corporations who lean into the same notion

those "computah" comments under any video of two dudes actually make my blood boil. we are circling right back around to homophobia and everyone's laughing ???
I want to see Peter be a bit unhinged. I want him to be obsessed with James to an alarming degree. I want him to avoid responsibility until he is drowning. I want him to cheat at everything. Peter is a good character without letting him find morality.
