Hello helloooo This is my RWBY side blog, may have strange and terrible things on it (Whitley Schnee appreciation and RWBY-related ramblings no doubt). Currently writing a fic called 'The Schnee Paradox', which you can read here (AO3) and here (Fanficdotnet). WINTER TELLING WHITLEY, WILLOW, AND KLEIN THAT WEISS FELL INTO THE VOID AND IS GONE AND IS BREAKING DOWN ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO SAVE WEISS. (Not really but they don't know that) WEISS REUNITING WITH WINTER, WHITLEY, WILLOW, AND KLEIN IN VOLUME TEN.

i like that you brought up the fact that both whitley and winter were victims as well because people tend to overlook the fact that they were clearly abused as well, even if it wasn't the way weiss was

I mean I see it mostly with Whitley: because of his interactions with Weiss in v4 people believed he was just like Jacques and that's it. It turns out we see in volume 8 that he's actually a pretty good kid. And earlier he's just acting like that because he simply does not want to be abused. Because Jacques isolated him to make sure Winter didn't take him under her wing like she did with Weiss, telling him shit to prevent him from bonding with his sisters and eventually rebelling like they did. And because deep down it's obvious that as much as he tried to act at first like he didn't care, he resented his mother for neglecting him and his sisters for leaving him there. Willow literally said that. Unlike Weiss, he was so young that Whitley likely doesn't have many memories of Willow being an attentive mom before the depression and alcoholism turned her into a neglectful parent, and unlike Weiss, he didn't have a Winter. Damn, Jacques even fired Klein. Whitley really only had him. So of course the poor kid did anything he could to please him.

Whitley might not have been as obvious, but now, Winter's case is so on the nose that I'm shocked anyone's ever doubted it?

And Winter's whole thing is actually interesting because unlike Weiss or Whitley, we've never seen her interact with Willow so far, so we don't really know what she thinks of her. Though there are a few things that make me speculate some stuff. Like this.

This is Willow in a family portrait (volume 4) and Winter in her original design. Although they're a bit different, their original hairstyles and outfits are somewhat similar. We've had characters, like Ruby for example, who are inspired by their mentors or parents and base their outfits, weapons or fighting styles off of theirs. And considering Willow was implied to be an attentive mom before Weiss's tenth birthday, and that she can use her Glyphs and summon Grimm—which means she could fight, because she had to kill that Boarbatusk herself to be able to summon it... I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out Winter and Willow used to be pretty close and Willow was the one who taught her how to fight and use her semblance, just like she did later with Weiss. And I wouldn't be shocked if the outfit is really inspired by her mom. After all, Winter was like 15 or 16 when Willow became depressed. So obviously she's the one that remembers the Willow from before the best, and seeing her mom becoming a shell of herself at that age because of her stupid father was likely not nice. But again, this is me speculating. We don't know what Winter really thinks of Willow and what kind of relationship they had. It's likely that she could resent her as well for shutting down and kind of forcing Winter to become Weiss's new mother figure, because yes, that's what Winter was to Weiss. Another case of parentified eldest sister.

Now, when it comes to Jacques, I assume her relationship with him was similar to his relationship with Weiss, following a somewhat similar pattern—training to become a Huntress, going to an academy, both of them are cut off economically the moment they start defying Jacques' wishes—with the difference that she's the eldest and that unlike Weiss, it seems like she gave up her heiress status willingly rather than being disinherited. She clearly didn't want the company. Instead of reclaiming her family name and redeeming it like Weiss wanted to do, Winter sees the Schnee name and the SDC as a tainted legacy and wants to distance herself from it because she can just picture her father when she thinks about it. And then Winter didn't get a good support system and a found family like Weiss did, instead she got military brainwashing and an authority figure that ended up being basically as bad as her father. So at the end she went from one abusive environment to another one.

And we know Jacques must have been terrible to her. Probably in the same way he was to Weiss: manipulative, controlling, likely physically abusive at times, too. Winter gets so triggered by his presence that she can't even stand to be in the same room with him using his manipulation tactics without snapping. Like damn, Weiss was the one who wanted to take Jacques to Vacuo with the other Atlesian refugees. If it were for Winter, and she let the fucker know that, she would've left him there to die. That's how much she hated him, and and it tells you how awful he must have been as both a father and human being to have his own daughter say that to him. How can anyone not think she was abused, too, I don't know.
