Harfoot and Stoor names in RoP

I made a discovery by pure coincidence.

Almost all Harfoot/Stoor first names are in the Appendix to LotR!

Baggins, Largo

Brandybuck, Malva née Headstrong

Cotton, Marigold née Gamgee

Brandybuck, Merimac

Bolger, Poppy née Chubb-Baggins

Brandybuck, Sadoc

I didn't find:

Dilly (Nori's sister) - which might be a shortened version of her name, just like Nori is short for Elanor

Gundabale - it might be the female version of Gundabald that is in the Appendix.

Sleeping Beauty Friday

Another week has passed by, which means another chapter of my masterpiece is up. :-) I also uploaded the first two "chapters" of the Appendix. Not linking it here, as it's linked from the chapter itself.

Chapter 4: CELEBRÍAN

A short excerpt:

“Have you given thought to who might be our composer?" he changes the topic so as not to dwell on his abysmal past.

"Lindir," Elrond and Celebrían say in unison. Mairon raises an amused eyebrow. "With a name like that, he sure sounds promising." "His mother was a singer of great renown," says Celebrían. "She must have chosen the name in the hope of her son inheriting her talent." It is impossible to not notice the ominous use of past tense, but it turns out that the woman left for Valinor rather than having the bad luck of dying as a result of Mairon's actions. "How lucky her wish came true," he says. "It would have been such a disappointment had he ended up out of tune with his own name."

Chapter 3: ELROND

A short excerpt:

He is told a great many things during the tour that Thondir and Galandil— who turn out to be architecture enthusiasts—make him suffer through once he has settled in.

It is not a small city, but neither is it huge. However, it starts feeling enormous as his guides keep rambling on sinuous, sculptural, organic shapes, arches, delicate curves, feminine lines and sensual ornamentation (with emphasis on sensual), accompanying their lecture with enthusiastic gestures and dramatic silences offered as an opportunity to soak in the sheer genius of a chair's asymmetric design or an utterly remarkable shape of a lamp post.

They fail to notice that he has stopped listening, his thoughts wandering into plotting imaginary murder by way of smashing a sensually ornamented vase on the tour guides’ hapless heads. It helps him to keep a composed, interested facade.

Sleeping Beauty Friday

Greetings from Vienna airport! I have just updated Sleeping Beauty.

Chapter 2: HILDA

A short excerpt:

The tavern is sparsely populated at this hour. Two old men are hunched over their tankards in a silent brotherhood of brooding, ignoring a third one, who is loudly complaining about the weather. An ancient white hound is asleep next to him, ignoring him, too. Another, a young female, has taken a liking to Elrond, usurping his attention in the determined way that is universal to all of dogdom once they decide they need a good scratch.

And Elrond indulges her, because it is Elrond.

"What an unusual animal," he says. "I have never seen one this white."

"Uruk-bred," says Hilda.

Mairon freezes, but nobody notices; everybody’s eyes are on Galadriel who utters a very loud and very shocked "What???"

Chapter 1: MAIRON

A short excerpt:

Centuries pass. Predictably, nobody shows up in the fortress. The lonely and very angry snow troll does not count. Mairon promptly makes him fall asleep; he is very much not interested in becoming dinner.

Until one day, somebody does arrive.

There are nine of them. Elves. And there is one more outside, coming closer.

Interesting.

What are they doing here?

It turns out they are searching for him, and, predictably, their intentions are far from friendly. Not that he blames them. But for the first time in—he has no idea how much time has passed—he has hope.
