Berlin will always be too big for me but I like the vibes.
I gave a presentation on how to make language more inclusive in my educational studies seminar and people responded really well to what I said! I was very nervous but people were very respectful and I'm glad I did this (I'm not getting credit or anything this was just to educate my peers on inclusive language)
Posting this before I said I would because I have zero patience and crave affirmation. We shall consider this my reward for putting on my big girl pants this week and making hard decisions about my future employment. (For those who've been keeping up, I took the jobâhanded in my notice Friday. It was all very sad. But good sad.)
I have the general plot of this story outlinedâYes! Outlined!â however, I will be using some old, neglected prompts to help guide me along as I write. Prompts used will be bolded.
Chapter One
âDo you, Aelin Galathynius, Princess of Terrasen, take this man, Rowan Whitethorn, Prince of Doranelle, to be your husband? Toââ
The priestess droned on, and the heavenâs cried upon them. The rain ran in rivets down Aelinâs face, washing the dirt and soot and Gods knew what else into her eyes. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand as the priestess continued. It wouldnât be much longer now, and then Aelin could have a bath.
Thunder rumbled overhead, loud enough to bring the ceremony to a pause. Aelin glanced upward at the grey, darkening sky.
The sound of the Godsâwere they celebrating this great moment in history? Or were they just as enraged by it as the green-eyed devil standing before Aelin, scowling at her as if she were the very embodiment of everything heâd ever learned to hate?
âYour Highness?â
Aelin blinked towards the priestess, confused. âOh,â she said, realizing that sheâd been staring at the sky rather than the ceremony happening around herâher marriage.
âUh.â A beat. âYesâI do.â
The priestess offered her a weary smile. The day had been a long one plagued by yet another battle, and the evening promised an even longer one for the officiant, time spent in the medical tent tending to their injured.
Across from Aelin, her betrothed scoffed. The sound was ripe with judgment, and his eyes burned Aelinâs skin with hate. She narrowed her eyes at him.
Rowan Whitethorn. Prince of Doranelle. Nephew of Queen Maeve.
He was but one of Terrasenâs many enemies these last three years. One of a select number of men responsible for leading Queen Maeve's armies.
Aelinâs parents had met Prince Rowan on the battlefield several times throughout the war. Aedion, as well. Their wedding was the first time Aelin had had the pleasure of meeting the icy Prince of Doranelle.
Aelin knew it could be worse. She could marry one of the brothers sheâd spent so much time hunting down, chasing them away from Orynth. Worse, it could be Queen Maeve's infamous War Commander. The one whoâdâ
No, now was not the time for that. Aelin chased the thoughts of betrayal away.
âBefore these witnesses,â the priestess said, waving an arm towards the men standing behind them. Lord Allsbrook, her fatherâs advisor, stood at her side, and a blonde-haired man from Doranelle remained at the Prince's. He was familiar to Aelin in a way that she could not place; though she was confident, she'd never met the man before.
âYou have pledged to be joined in marriage, to...â
Aelinâs eyes caught on the crimson-stained cuffs of the priestessâs white robes. She knew from experience that the stains would never wash free; the priestess would be better off burning the garment than wasting time trying to save it.
Aelin had given up on wearing fine things a long time ago. Everything ended up ruined one way or another. Fighting in skirmishes along the Staghorns. Nursing the injured into their graves.
Her mother would have a conniption when she learned what her daughter had worn to her wedding. A pair of breeches and a leather cuirass over a faded, green tunic. The armor was of the finest make, at least, but Aelin was pretty sure sheâd stolen the shirt from Aedion the last time theyâd crossed paths.
It seemed like a fitting decision, wearing armor to her alliance-making, war-ending wedding. Aelin and her wedding party stood upon a hill, just shy of the center of todayâs battlefield. Neutral territory. Yet, the ground was still stained red, wet with blood and the eveningâs rain.
It was but this marriage that there would not be another battle at dawn. Aelin sucked in a breath and focused on the woman in front of her. The priestess recited the sermon without flaw, oblivious to Aelinâs wandering mind.
The Gods would surely punish Aelin for tuning out during her very own wedding. Then again, it felt as if the Gods were already punishing her. Aelin wondered what sheâd done to deserve their wrath.
Aelinâs and the Princeâs eyes met, but he glanced away quickly as if the look had scalded him. The Prince of Doranelle wasnât known for his warmthâquite the opposite. Aelinâs husband-to-be was known best for his cold and calculating ways. For his mercilessness on the battlefield.
This was the man Aelinâs family had chosen for her? The one thatâd been chosenâfrom amongst all of Queen Maeveâs familyâin a hastily thrown together alliance? Were both sides really so desperate for peace?
âIt is through this wedding that Princess Aelin Ashryver Galathynius of Terrasen, the Heir of Ash and Fire, and Prince Rowan Whitethorn of Doranelleââ Lightning struck the mountains behind them. An omen if Aelin had ever seen one. ââwill bring peace at last to our two kingdoms.â
The priestessâs gaze flickered between the two of them. There was no hope in her brown eyes, only a bone-deep weariness that Aelin felt within her soul. âMay the Gods watch over you both as you embark on this journey.â
Aelin watched with little feeling as her enemies dispersed. It was odd to watch as Prince Rowan and his fellow warriors rode into her war camp to make themselves at home. These were the very same men Aelin had spent months fighting, trying to kill or, at the very least, defeat.
But sheâd failed, and now they had tents and beds amongst Aelinâs men.
âIâll see to it that they get settled, Your Highness,â Lord Allsbrook said. Aelin nodded his dismissal, and he followed after them.
Aelin had been surprised to see the Lord arrive at her camp this afternoon, too late to assist in the dayâs fighting and with too few men to make a difference. Lord Murtagh Allsbrookâs presence wasnât unwelcome, but it did not come without suspicion. That suspicion only grew when Aelin caught sight of the blue banners of Doranelle, the owl crest that heralded the arrival of Queen Maeve's army.
âYour Highness,â Lady Elide addressed her, eyes wide. âPerhaps, you should return to your rooms now.â An awkward pause. âWe need to get you cleaned up, Lady.â
Aelin looked down at the armor she wore, dirty and blood-stained like the priestess's robes. She heaved a heavy sigh, remembering a time when Aelin would have rather died than be caught in such a state of dress. Those days were long behind her.
âRight,â Aelin said. âLetâs go.â
Together, the pair returned to Aelinâs tired camp. The majority of the men still lingered around the campfires, speaking in muted tones. A few slept where they fell, exhausted from the dayâs battle. Aelin didnât blame them for not noticing her at first; it had been a very long day for all of them, one with an unexpected ending.
Behind her, Aelinâs guard trailed quietly, each of them ready and willing to give their lives in exchange for the Princessâs. The very thought turned Aelinâs stomach. Enough men had already died on her behalf. For Terrasenâs.
Her entourage quickly attracted attention, and heads began to bow as Aelin wove through the tents. Aelin wondered how they would feel when they learned what their Princess had just done. Would they think of her as a martyr? Or would they consider her a traitor?
In her tent, Aelin was stripped of her bloody armor and ushered into a lukewarm bath. She found such rituals silly while in the middle of a war camp, but Aelin understood that her Ladies worked hard to keep up appearances. At the end of the day, Aelin was still a Princess of Terrasen, second in line to the throne after her father, Prince Rhoe.
And tonight was her wedding night.
It all felt wrong. Weddings in Terrasen were always a thing of celebration. Royal marriages were celebrated for days. Music would play day and night, and there was never a shortage of food and, most importantly, drink. Aelin had always dreamed of her wedding and the festivities that would follow. A celebration that the people of her nation would remember for decades.
Tonight did not match those dreams.
âYou cannot be in here right now.â Elideâs voice carried from the other side of the partition. Aelinâs dear friend hissed sharply. âPut those back! They belong to my LadyâSir!â
Aelin slipped from the bath, ignoring as the water sloshed over the edge of the bath. Moving quietly, Aelin yanked on the robe that was left out for her. It stuck to her wet skin, but there wasnât time to dry properly. Or for modesty.
âApologies, Lady, but I have my orders,â a man replied, his voice filled with humor. As if sneaking into a Princess's tent without permission were a humorous task. âIââ
Aelin struck like lightning. The hilt of her dagger cracked against the back of the intruderâs head. His blonde hair was infuriatingly familiar to Aelin; it made her see nothing but revenge.
âI believe Lady Lochan gave you an order.â The force of Aelin's blow sent him to his knees, and he yelped. Aelin hissed, âYou should know that my friend is not known for asking twice.â
But the man was fast, faster than Aelin had anticipated. The warrior twirled on his feet before retaliating; Aelin narrowly avoided him, stumbling out of the range of his blade just in time. Her hip collided with the small table she kept in her room for meals, and pain lanced up her side as she fell to the ground.
The warrior took advantage. The warmth in his voice was gone from his face as he prowled towards her, but the soldier had forgotten about Elide.
Aelinâs favorite teapot shattered over the manâs head. He crumpled, landing on her bed. Great.
âAre you okay?â Aelin asked her friend. Elide nodded, face flushed.
The man groaned. âFucking hellâthat hurt.â
Aelin moved, pinning the intruder to her bed with a knee. âHitting people isnât very nice.â
âSays the one with a knife to my throat.â The manâs voice somehow still held a smile.
âIâve waited years for this opportunity,â Aelin growled at him. She recognized Lord Fenrysâs face better than she would her cousinâs after so much time apart. âYears of chasing you and that blasted brother of yours across the Staghorns.â
âYour Highnessâ" Lord Fenrys raised his hands above his head in surrender. The smile he wore told Aelin that his next words would only serve to infuriate her. "âif you wanted to get me into your bed, all you had to do was ask.â
Aelin tightened her grip on her blade. She wanted nothing more than to stab it into his heart, but she couldnât. Peace. Her parents had negotiated for peace.
Aelin growled, âWho the fuck do you think you are?â
âLord Fenrys, as I think you already know,â he replied. âThough any woman whoâs got their legs wrapped around me as you have, Your Highness, may call me Fenrys.â
Aelin thrust the blade forward, narrowly missing his face and piercing the mattress beside his head. Fenrys had the right of mind to pale at the near-miss; the smile vanished from his face.
âWhat are you doing in my room, Lord Fenrys?â Aelin snarled. âAnd who gave you the right to take my weapons?â
âBecause I asked him to do so.â Lord Weylan Darrow appeared at the door then. The flap of the ten fell closed behind him as his gaze flickered around the room. âIn hindsight, I recognize the mistake. However, I assumed you would still be⊠out.â
âOut where exactly?â Elide asked, her displeasure evident. âYouâve brought half of Doranelleâs army down upon usâsome of Queen Maeveâs best men. Where is the Princess supposed to go that would be safe?â
Fenrys preened beneath Aelin. Like it or not, Lady Elide's words were something of a compliment. Aelin dug her knee into his ribs just a little harder, sneered down at him. The bastard winked.
Darrowâs expression sharpened. âRemember your place, girl.â
Aelin narrowed her eyes at Lord Darrow. Her grandfather's lover was a stringent man; he believed the etiquette of the court should be upheld at all times. Sometimes even in private. But while the King's Consort was technically in the right, it still made Aelin's blood boil to see her friend and constant companion mistreated so.
Aelin tamed her ill-temper and asked, âYou sent the enemy into my rooms? Without my permission?â
âHeâs not your enemy any longer,â Lord Darrow said, stepping deeper into the tent. âAnd so, you ought to release the Lord. Preferably before your husband arrives.â
Husband. The word caught Aelin off-guard, made her heart stop dead. Then the rest of his sentence registered. âAnd why is he coming here?â
Lord Darrow stared at Aelin as if she were mad. The tips of his ears reddened in embarrassment, and he cleared her throat uncomfortably.
Aelin connected the dots. âAbsolutely not.â
âIt is expected, Princess.â Darrow looked apologetic, at least. Aelin considered turning her dagger on him instead. âThe Prince will be here any moment now, and itâs for the best that he not seeââ
âThat I not see what?â Prince Rowanâs deep, lilting voice filled the space before he did.
Aelin tensed at the sight of him, watching as that cold emerald gaze found hers. His expression remained bored as he took in the scandalous sight of her kneeling over his fellow warrior.
Prince Rowan blinked. âAh, I see.â
âWell, this is awkward,â Lord Fenrys quipped. He grinned at the Prince from beneath Aelin. âHello, Rowan.â
Aelin ignored the informal use of the Princeâs first name, the implications of their camaraderie, and focused on how her husband's hand moved subtly towards his own blade. She curled her lip at him.
âIf I planned to kill him, heâd be dead already,â Aelin said, matter-of-factly. She slid from Fenryâs lap and adjusted her robe more tightly around her waist. âNow, if you gentlemen donât mind, Lady Lochan and I would like to rest.â
âLady Lochan will be moving into a tent with your maid,â Darrow informed Aelin. His voice did not ask for permission; Lord Darrow did not have to. He glanced around the room. âWhere is that one lurking at anyway?â
Aelin lifted her chin up high. âLysandra is attending to the laundry.â
âOf course.â The Kingâs Consort sounded unconvinced.
Aelin refused to look guilty. It wasnât a total lie. It was highly likely that Lysandra was attending to the laundryâbut in the Doranelle camp on the other side of the valley.
Yet, the news of the wedding had to have spread within both of the camps by now. Lysandra would be back soon.
âRight.â Lord Darrow cleared his throat and braced his hands on his hips. âI believe it is time that we all bid the newlyweds⊠goodnight.â
It was a miracle that Aelin didnât flinch. Elide prepared to protest on her behalf, sucking in a sharp breath, but Lord Fenrys beat her to it. The warrior hoped off of Aelinâs bed, at last, wearing a cocky smile as he pranced toward his Prince.
âGood luck, mate.â Fenrys clapped his friend on the shoulder. âSheâs a fighter.â
Aelin had never seen Lord Darrow look so offended, and Aelin had done a few things in her lifetime that rubbed her grandfatherâs partner the wrong way. Darrow and Aelin did not often see eye to eye.
âGet out,â Prince Rowan spoke before Darrow could.
To his credit, Fenrys remained unbothered by the venom in Prince Rowanâs voice. The warrior flashed another fearless smile at him before sketching a bow in the Princeâs direction. Then Darrowâs.
Aelin could not stop the hiss that escaped her as Lord Fenrys dipped into a bow before her. Aelin doubted that sheâd ever let go of the rage she felt for the warrior. After all, to do so would be a dishonor to the men and women Aelin had lost fighting against him.
âUntil we met again, Your Highness,â Lord Fenrys said with a wink. Aelin regretted leaving her dagger behind on the bed.
The Lord turned to the exit, gallantly offering his arm to Elide as he passed. He smiled despite the womanâs glare. âMy Lady?â
Elide looked toward Aelin for direction. The question was apparent in Elideâs dark eyes: did Aelin want her to remain? Yes, but Aelin knew that Darrow would never hear of it. She nodded in dismissal. Aelin needed to keep the men in this room from sensing her discomfort. Her fear.
Elide accepted the Lordâs arm with a stern look. Yet, she halted before Prince Rowan, her shrewd gaze latched onto the Princeâs sword. âIâll be needing thatâYour Highness.â
The room paused.
Lord Fenrys wiggled his fingers at his Prince. âIt is only fair.â
âAre you suggesting that Iâd use my blade on your Princess?â Prince Rowan asked, brows pinched together.
Elide smirked. âIâm more concerned that she might use it on you.â
âLady Elide!â Darrow scolded the young woman. Elide looked unashamed. Aelin worked hard not to smile.
âOh,â Lord Fenrys sighed, grin impossibly wide. âThis is going to be fun.â

I always have a little bit of a meltdown (in a good way) when we reach another âmilestoneâ chapter. SIXTY chapters later⊠Weâre at about 225k âand thatâs without all of the extras. I suppose one good thing came out of the year 2020. Iâve never written this much in my life.
Thank all of you lovely people for reading and commenting. I live for all the outrage and joyâand theories. Those are my favorite.

The Cadre Band Members Share Photos of Rowan Whitethornâs Birthday.
Only the gods know how the group manages to stay under the radar. Aelin guesses it helps that sheâs perfected the art of sneaking in and out of Rowanâs apartment. For someone whoâs made a career out of being seen, Aelin works very hard to go unnoticed.
Rowan trips over the threshold as they leave. âFuck.â
âCâmon.â Aelin giggles and reaches for the hand of her drunk boyfriend, and they thread their fingers together. Rowan flashes her a drunk, happy grin. âLetâs make a run for it.â
âRunning sounds hard.â His words slur together as he speaks, and Rowan frowns deeply.
To further his point, Rowan leans heavily into Aelinâs side as they walk. She gladly takes his weight, and they take shaky, uncertain steps away from the building. Guess theyâre not running anywhere.
Good thing that Aelinâs had years of practice to perfect functioning while inebriated.
This chapter feels kind of⊠fillery to me? I hope thatâs alright with you all. Iâve written so much these last few days that I might have another update for you before next weekend. Thatâs the plan anyway; I suppose it depends on how my Christmas shopping goes. Enjoy!

Aelin Galathynius Lands at The Port, Returns to Tour!
Lorcan wastes little time in hunting Aelin down at her hotel. Aelin could hear the drummer coming from the other side of the city with how loudly he marches around the place. She smirks to herself when Lor turns the doorknob without invitation, growling loudly when the door doesnât open.
However, she underestimates his stubbornness, and Lorcan starts to bang on the door, demanding that she answers. Aelin groans into her pillow; she just wanted to catch some sleep before the rehearsals.
The drummer shouts, âAce! Open your damn door!â
âGo away!â Aelin throws the blanket over her head to block out the noise. She only just checked into the hotel after a very lonely flight; Aelin is not yet ready for Lorcan Salvaterreâs invasive personality just yet.
âBut!â A knock. âIâve got something to tell you, and in your exact wordsââ A heavy thud as his fist collides with the door. ââsharing is caring! Open up.â
I made this as fluffy as absolutely possible. Thereâs a lot of feelings, but then I think weâll be moving along? Maybe? We will see what they have in store for me⊠I donât make the rules here.

Spotted: Rowan Whitethorn Picks Up Daughter from Daycareâwith Aelin Galathynius.
âWhat are you smiling about?â Rowan narrows his eyes in Aelinâs direction.
Aelin beams at him. It takes a lot to resist the urge to kiss Rowan while theyâre still out in public, but Thea blew her cover earlier at the daycare. Aelin canât tell if someone is watching them, who mightâve finally tracked them down at the boardwalk. Itâs disappointing to lose the anonymity, but itâs part of the deal. Become an A-List celebrity, lose all of your privacy.
Instead, Aelin aims her smile in Theaâs direction. The little girl is chasing the gulls down the walk, offering the tyrannical birds her yogurt; itâs a wonder none of them havenât stolen the little paper cup from her small grip already. Sheâs certainly asking for trouble.
âBecause,â Aelin says, feeling less guilty about her words by looking away from him, âIâm dating the Hot Dad.â
Ever since she was a child, Aelin Galathynius had loved summer.
Although her home, Terrasen, was known for their beautiful yet brutal winters, their summers held just as much splendor. The air grew warm, but not too hot. Just enough to work up a bit of a sweat, for their lakes and rivers to provide a refreshing and brisk cool-down.
So many of Aelinâs fondest childhood memories were from her summers, when school was out and she had nothing but time to spend with her family and friends. Through most of her childhood, Aelin would spend her summers at her familyâs country estate. It was a charming home on a sprawling plot of land planted right on the edge of the Oakwald. For the most part, it was quiet and isolated, a stark difference from the hustle and bustle of the city life Aelin had grown up in.
This is so good! Iâm already hooked! I completely forgot that the first section was in the past though and when I read the ânowâ title I was filled with dread đ
Each time I type the chapter number in the header, I freak out about how far this fic has come. Itâs crazy, and Iâm in awe. Iâve been thinking about how Iâm going to wrap this story upâdonât panic, yet, we have timeâbut itâs been giving me feelings.

Where Has Aelin Galathynius Been Hiding?
No one notices her. With every step Aelin takes as they roam the city, she expects someoneâanyoneâto catch her or Rowan or her and Rowan. She waits with bated breath for the hell to ensue at the sight of them out on a brunch date. The cameras. The mob of people. The invasion of privacy. The questions that are no oneâs business.
But no one does.
It leaves Aelin wonderingâno, obsessingâover her appearance. Maybe sheâs just so hideous right now that nobody can recognize the usually glammed up pop star, the blonde bombshell that seized Doranelle by storm with her glitz and glam. Aelin doesnât think anyone really remembers her for her Cadre days, which is odd, to say the least.
Aelin frowns. She canât possibly be that unrecognizable in a pair of dark skinny jeans and Rowanâs old hoodie, right? Whatâs happened to her?
It is here at long last! Iâve decided to break these next scenes up into a few chapters, so the snippets I have shared will be spread amongst these following updates. Itâs just better for my sanity if I release a few shorter chapters.Â

Aelin Galathynius Spotted In Doranelle Between Concerts.
Rowan sneaking out of bed is what wakes Aelin up the following morning. The woman mutters a protest at the loss of his warmth beside her; she clings to his shoulders to hold him hostage. Rowanâs laughter rumbles in his chest, warm and affectionate. He kisses the top of her head to soothe her, but it isnât enough to stop her protests.
âI have to get Thea to daycare on time,â he says while trying to pry himself free.
Aelin whines, âDonât leave.â
Another laugh. Rowan wiggles free of her grip before smoothing back her wild hair; heâs already smiling down at her when Aelin opens her eyes to shoot him a glare. Her boyfriend pecks a kiss to her lips, unafraid of her. âGo back to sleep, baby.â

Aelin Galathynius Finishes First Leg of Her Wendlyn Tour Dates.
âFireheart,â Aelinâs mother says, rubbing her temples, âdo you have any painkillers? Iâve got the worst headache.â
âWow.â Aelin doesnât even look up from her phone, reading the schedule Essar sent her for the week after next. She was quite the jet setter as of late, and it seemed like that wasnât about to stop any time soon. At least, she had a couple free days with Rowan first. âI didnât know you hated my music so much, Mom.â
âItâs the strobe lights, dear.â Evalin releases a long-suffering sigh. âYour show last night was lovely, as always.â
Oof. I know itâs been a hot minute since this got an update but life threw me some curve balls this past month. Iâm excited to finally get it to you and I hope you like it! I would also recommend listening to What Have I Done by Dermot Kennedy for the first part, big inspiration for the first scene.Â

A golden sunlight sneaking between the curtains was what woke Rowan, the sunlight illuminating the room in a soft glow. Aelin was asleep beside him, on her side so she faced him, one hand tucked under her cheek and the other resting on the pillow. Her shoulder was bare, the sheet draped precariously over the rest of her, with her mouth parted a little as she took in those deep and peaceful breaths. It took everything in him not to lean over and kiss her, or trace the lines of her face and body. He had a hard time believing this was real, that she was here with him. That she loved him, and he loved her.
They had spent the previous evening and night completely wrapped up in each other, the world outside their apartment hadnât existed for those hours. When Aelin had told him how she felt it as if something Rowan had been searching his whole life for had finally fallen into place. After they had made love that first time they had laid in bed talking, laughing, touching, it was hard for Rowan to remember when he had ever been happier with Aelin smiling at him like that, her smile as golden as the sunlight that encroaching on his bedroom. They had only been driven from the bed by hunger and Aelin had perched herself on the counter top while Rowan made dinner. When he had given her a disapproving glare at her position she had just rolled her eyes at him and called him a fussy buzzard, he had reminded her how much she had enjoyed his fussing not too long ago making her cheeks turn pink.Â

Tonight! Aelin Galathynius Live In Varese!
Lorcan is doing push-ups in the green room when Aelin arrives, and for a moment, sheâs thrown back into time five years prior, to pre-show band rituals and five testosterone-filled men working out and insulting each other while Aelin cursed her nervous bladder.
âSo?â Aelin rests a foot on Lorcanâs back. He grunts, but the pressure doesnât slow him down. Aelin finds his athletic skill utterly disgusting. âDid you pop the question yet or what?â
âStop making it sound like Iâm proposing! Shit!â Lorcan grunts the words out between breaths. âWhy are you acting as if you two havenât already discussed it during one of your Girls Nights?â
Aelin rolls her eyes at him. âLor, that reeks of bitterness.â She presses down with her toes a little, just because; Lorcan growls. She asks, âDo you want to come to Girls Night, Lor? Are you feeling left out?â
Today It Takes Two turned one, to celebrate hereâs a little deleted scene. This takes place just after Chapter 14, back when things were awkward and they were just starting to work things out. Please Enjoy! And thank you so much for reading. This fic would be nothing without you guys.

This was shaping up to be one of the worst birthdays Aelin had ever had, and sheâs had her fair share of miserable birthdays. She had woken up and instantly needed to throw up, barely making it to the bathroom before she did. The fact it was her birthday didnât even register until she picked up her phone and saw the messages from her friends. Sheâd been so focused on getting her nausea tablets and crackers into her body that she didnât even know what day it had been.Â
She was tired, she felt sick, she was miserable.Â
Right now she was curled in on her side in her bed just passing the time until she fell asleep again. She was trying to read to take her mind off everything but the nagging sickness in her stomach was too much. Aelin closed her eyes as tears started to gather, her emotions all over the place and far too close to the surface. They were still raw from her nightmare the other night and from Emrysâ visit, and the fact she was exhausted only topped it all off. Pregnancy sucked.
The front door of the apartment open and closed and Aelin heard footsteps make their way towards her bedroom door. She had left it open so she just watched and waited to see who was coming.
âHey,â Aedion said softly as he walked into her room.
âHey,â Aelin said back, her voice too thick and she saw concern immediately cloud Aedionâs features.
âHappy birthday,â he said with a sympathetic smile.Â
Aelin huffed a laugh that threatened to turn into a sob.

Aelin Galathynius Adds International Dates to Dear Society Tour.
Rowan and Aelin share kisses and âI love youâsâ in the dark. Aelin can feel his smile as he kisses her, tickling her sides with his gentle fingers, and she cups the back of his to keep him close, wrapping her legs around his waist to keep him closer and running a hand up and down his back.
The kissing soon turns heated, and Aelin moans when Rowanâs kisses against her neck turn hot and heavy. She threads her fingers into his silver-blonde hair and scratches her nails against the scalp of his head; Rowan grunts his approval, tugs gently at the skin of her neck with his teeth.
âI love you,â she whispers into his lips.Â
Rowan smiles and kisses her deeply. âI love you, too, baby.â
I had a weird feeling that you were going to update today and I was right!!! This chapter did not disappoint and honestly I think itâs one of my favourites so far!!! It was so sweet and they are just so damn in love! The sounds I made when aelin talked about rowan and Thea being her family weâre not human đ
Here it is, at last. Iâve pretty much spent all week daydreaming about this fic instead of working on what I was supposed to. Seeing as how I have no self-control, Iâm going ahead and sharing the first chapter. Let me know what you think! Iâd love your thoughts!

The City of Rivers, Chapter One
Rhysand Veritas, Duke of Velaris
The City of Rivers wasnât all that different from his beautiful Velaris, was the thought Rhys had as he stepped out of the tavern. With its jagged mountains and flowing rivers, one could almost confuse the two cities with one another. Almost.
Doranelle was too green for his liking, something his younger cousin, Morrigan, teased him endlessly over. The rivers here raged in a way that contrasted starkly against the peaceful Sidra River back home. The rivers of Doranelle held in them a viciousness only matched by the queen that ruled over them. May the gods keep someone from ever overhearing Rhys say such a thing aloud.
âYou are thinking far too hard for so early in the day!â Cassian slaps a hand roughly between Rhysâs shoulder blades, knocking both the air from his lungs and the melancholy from his head. It was probably for the better; Rhys only just arrived in Doranelle. It was a little early to be getting homesick. He had months ahead of him still.

There was a pile of discarded clothes on Aelinâs bed that she could see behind her as she looked over her current outfit in the mirror. She was sure this was the one. It was a mustard coloured flowy, knee length dress, the top overlapping to give a false wrap effect. The tie at the waist was the real selling point though, meaning she could leave it a little looser than she would probably usually have it. At 12 weeks pregnant she had just started to show and her wardrobe was starting to be compromised. Aelin couldnât help herself and turned to the side, smoothing the fabric over the dress over her stomach to see the slight change in her body and smiled. Unless you were really looking for it, it wasnât noticeable. But Aelin was always looking at it when she could.
âYou look good in that,â Rowan said from the doorway and Aelin looked over to see him leading on the door frame.
She smiled at him as he smiled at her. âThank you.â
âYou ready to go?â He asked, moving into the bedroom. âYouâll need a coat. Thereâs a chilly wind out there tonight.â
Aelin checked the tie on her dress and watched as Rowan flicked through the jackets and coats that hung in her wardrobe. He pulled out a simple black coat and Aelin nodded her approval of the choice. Holding it out for her he helped her slip it on, making sure it didnât catch on the brace she was still wearing on her wrist.
She untucked her hair from the collar and checked herself over in the mirror one last time. âAlright, letâs go. We donât want to keep the grandparents waiting.â
Rowan positively beamed at those words.
Tonight they were going out to dinner with both sets of their parents and would announce the pregnancy to them. Besides Rowanâs team and Elide, the parents would be the first to be told. Aelin felt a little bad that they werenât the first to know, and she knew Rowan felt the same, but they couldnât help what happened. After Aelin had sworn them all to secrecy they had all managed to keep the news to themselves.Â
Aelinâs mother had been beside herself when sheâd heard about the accident. They had been visiting family in Varese when Aelin had called from the hospital and Evalin had been ready to get on the next flight back to Orynth, but Aelin had assured her she was fine, and also left out the fact that she would be staying in a few days for observation. Rowanâs parents had been just as equally distraught but they had already planned to visit a few weeks later so they held out, very conveniently arriving around the same time as Aelinâs parents. It had been too easy to suggest that they all have dinner together.
Hand in hand the parents-to-be walked out of the apartment, down the flights of stairs, and onto the street. They were meeting at a restaurant that was walking distance from their apartment which was all part of the plan. When Aelin and Rowan arrived, both sets of parents were waiting outside chatting together. When Evalin saw Aelin she immediately broke from the group, gathering her daughter into a hug.
âCareful, Mum. My ribs,â Aelin squeaked and was then immediately being held at arm's length, her motherâs scrutinising eye running over her.
âI thought you said you were okay now,â Evalin said, a hand coming to rest on Aelinâs cheek.
âI am, just healing,â Aelin insisted.Â
Evalin narrowed her eyes. âAre you sure youâre fine?â
Aelinâs answer was an eyeroll, bluffing her way through the physical toll her pregnancy was taking on her body.Â
âYes, Mother. I am absolutely fine,â Aelin assured her. âIâve had this one fussing over me non-stop so.â
Evalin finally let go of Aelin and looked away from her to Rowan. âHello Rowan. How are you?âÂ
âIâm good,â Rowan replied and they hugged each other briefly.Â
By then everyone else had wandered over, with more greetings and reassurances that yes, she was fine Aelin returned to Rowanâs side. Rowan was just smiling knowingly as he let Aelin deal with the situation. She knew that if she didnât get him inside soon and distracted by food he would spill the big secret before the big reveal she had planned.
âShall we?â Aelin said and led the way into the restaurant.Â
Dinner had been lovely. Aelin was eternally grateful that her parents and her in-laws actually got on. They were so distracted by the conversation they didnât notice that Aelin had ordered a chicken instead of steak, like she usually would. But the only way to eat steak was medium in the very least and her doctor has been insistent that all her meat be fully cooked. They also managed to miss the fact she had kept to water instead of a glass of wine, although her father had looked very confused for a second there as Aelin told the waiter her denial.
Now they were trekking back up the stairs, almost to their floor. The parents were coming in for more chatting and probably another drink, Aelin was really counting on that drink part. Rowanâs eyes were brimming with excitement as he unlocked the door. He was too adorable.
Aelin breezed into the apartment heading towards the bedroom to drop off her coat, as she got to the door she heard Rowan offer everyone a drink. There was a general consensus which had Aelin grinning.
âJust water for me please,â Iris chimed in.
âOf course, Mum,â Rowan said from the kitchen.
Aelin met him there, where we had four tumbler glasses and a bottle of wine on the counter as he was grabbing a jug of water from the fridge. Aelin looked at the glasses, glad they had arrived in time. Each one read their respective grandparent name with EST April and the year engraved delicately on the glass. Rowan poured out the drinks, practically humming with restrained excitement as he did so. When he was done he picked up the glasses for his parents and Aelin did the same for hers. They were all sitting on the couch, Iris, Evander and Evalin on the seats and Rhoe was on the arm of it next to Evalin. Rowan sat in the single armchair once he relinquished his drinks, Aelin perching on his lap a moment later.
âHowâs the station, Rowan?â Rhoe asked and the conversation started flowing again.Â
Aelin was hardly paying attention, she could sense Rowan doing the same as they waited for one of them to realise. Her eyes kept jumping from parent to parent when finally she saw Iris go perfectly still and look at her glass, the water more easily showing the words, when her eyes went wide Aelin knew it was about to get going.Â
âEvan,â Iris breathed, but her husband didnât hear her. Then she started tapping his leg furiously as she said his name again. âEvan, Evan. Look at your glass.â
âWhat? Is it dirty?â He said and Aelin almost burst out laughing, Rowan was hiding his smile behind his hand.
Then it was Evalin who squealed.
Aelin looked over at her mother and already saw tears brimming in her eyes.
âOh,â Rhoeâs deep voice said quietly as he turned his glass in his hand. âOh.â
âWaitâŠâ Evander said, still not quite getting it and held the glass at arms length as he squinted to read in engraving. When he did he almost dropped his drink.
âYouâre pregnant?â Evalin finally said, her voice thick with emotion.
âYou bet, Grandma,â Aelin told her, trying to cover her own fraying emotions with a little bravado. Rowanâs firm squeeze to her hip told her she had failed.Â
There was a flurry of movement and then Aelin was being pulled off Rowanâs lap and being embraced by both her parents, very enthusiastically but gently. They let her go and congratulated Rowan while his parents congratulated her, then eventually Aelin was tucked into Rowanâs side, his arm snaking around her waist as he dropped a kiss onto her head. The newly announced grandmothers were wiping at their eyes and Aelin noted that he fatherâs eyes were shining in the light.
Then Evalin whirled on them, something akin to devastation on her face. âYou were pregnant in the accident?â
Aelin held onto Rowan a little tighter as she nodded.Â
âOh, baby,â Evalin whispered and Rhoe pulled her in for a hug.
âThat would have been terrifying,â Iris added.
It was Rowan who answered. âIt was, but we were very, very lucky. And now weâre excited beyond belief.âÂ
Aelin looked up at Rowan then and he looked down at her. They had been incredibly lucky that Aelin had walked away from that accident with minimal injuries and that the baby hadnât been harmed. As Rowan smiled and then kissed her, she knew she was truly the luckiest woman in the world.Â

Authorâs Note: CHAPTER 50? I was in denial the whole time I wrote this chapter that weâve reached to such a milestone⊠Boy, did I throw my outline out or what? I donât know how authors write books capped at like 60k, but I guess this story could qualify for more than one book at this point⊠What a ride either way!
Oh, and this chapter is 8500+ words. As a treat. So, you know, donât start it if youâve got somewhere to be. Thank you all for reading. Iâm so thankful for all of your reactions and theories and lovely words. Okay, okay. On with the story.

Aelin Galathyniusâs Camp Declines to Confirm Relationship with Rowan Whitethorn.
As the days go by, the media soon forgets about Aelinâs temper tantrum and meeting with Havilliard Sr. The memory doesnât fade for Aelin, though, haunting her in the back of her mind. The paperwork Dorianâs father promised her has yet to arrive, and Aelin doesnât know whether to rejoice about the fact that he finally took the hint or panic because he finally took the hint.
Despite her worries, Aelin manages to have a fantastic couple of weeks by sticking to her promise not to let assholes ruin her good days. Dear Society is doing fantastic, and Aelin finds herself very excited to get out on tour to see her fans. Itâs been too long; though, somehow, she also feels that it hasnât been long enough.
Aelinâs enjoyed being home in Doranelle, and she wouldnât be disappointed about getting to spend a little bit more time there in her hometown, wasting the days with her family and friends. With Rowan and Thea. Aelin practically lives at their apartment these days, spending bright, happy days with Thea and long, warm nights tangled with Rowan.
