For one of my assignments in my Fashion Industry Essentials class, I have to make a mock up of a productions cost for a figurative piece, in my case a suit jacket. Much to my dismay, I don't have access to the correct tools to make said suit jacket, so instead, I did extensive amounts of research on how long it would take to make one, as well as what is required to create it (supplies, time it takes, etc.), but in this theoretical case, we will presume I have all the tools needed to make this piece. These supplies are sourced from my local Joann Fabrics store.

Thread - $1.49/spool (x1) Stretch Crepe Fabric - $18.74/yd (x5) = $93.70 Scuba Hex (for lining) - $11.24/yd (x5) = $56.20 Sew On Magnet Fasteners - $5.09/ea (x3) = $15.27

Total Supply Cost: $166.66

Going off of the minimum wage for a clothing retail worker in Arizona, which is $14.70 per hour, the total production cost would be $2,449.90.

After some research and reading, a tailor would be able to make a custom suit jacket in roughly two months, which is 1460 hours. Going off of the assignments example, assuming I want to make 20% profit, I would make $489.98.

"Do you think the item could be sold for that amount?" Given that this product is majorly consisting of polyester, which is plastic and not very durable, I highly doubt that would be the case. Though this may just be a case of personal preference, if I had almost five hundred dollar to spend, I wouldn't pay that much for products made largely of non-biodegradable plastic that, at the end of the day, is most likely going to end up in a landfill for the rest of existence.
