The fact that quills stuck in roadkill will puncture a tyre and leave a human helpless on the side of the road a few miles away. That cutting a rope will have them plummet to the bottom of the mountain. That maybe that human wandering in circles in the desert will simply collapse soon and there’s no need to waste energy luring them away.

Maybe they’ve recognized a drunken state and know it’s much easier to pull someone away if they’re struggling to decipher all the details of the “person” in front of them.

Some of them know they can tank a fall much better than a human can, and have taken to tackling hikers off the sides of steeper trails.

They don’t need a lure to prey on you if you’re helpless enough
