alcide was on a different schedule entirely compared to vincent. most of his construction work happened during normal business hours just like when his father was in charge. now that he was on his own, alcide liked to keep that same schedule. even when it came to early mornings like this. one good part about it was vincent also joining him. 

the tank top clinging to alcide’s muscular torso shifted as he turned to face vincent. a smile appeared on the wolf’s face as he waved. “how was work?” after asking, alcide turned back to his work. with all of the damaged wood torn out, alcide had been given a relatively blank slate. most of the bones of the previous home remained. alcide was able to build upon what remained in order to recreate vincent’s family home. 

“take a look around. i had the guys help with the framing. see if you want anything changed.” alcide now went to grab some water. he looked around while doing so. even with the short time he’d been here, a lot of progress had been made. 

that was all it took for him to completely forget about the previous night. that smile, those arms - yeah, he was in trouble. "exhausting. longest night i've had in a while.. and not the good kind." he loved his work, he wasn't trying to complain, but some nights just drained him. nice company helped recharge his battery for sure though. getting to watch the place he still called home take form again, even if only vaguely.. it was nice. he'd spent most his life away, but that didn't mean he couldn't want to make up for lost time.

find his brother, the rest of his pack.. maybe love - who could say, right? "i.. don't remember it all, but what i've seen looks great." his brother would know, but sadly he wasn't here. "you ever take on a job like this? water and rot everywhere?" he knew the house had been in bad shape, it'd been neglected for years, thankfully he got in touch with beacon hills authorities before it was torn down. this was the only thing he had left from his old life. "did you ever want to do something else?"

"Yeah. But it's what they like and it gets in the views. I wouldn't mind doing a couple of evening workouts when it cools perhaps. That's also when they'd not be in the gym too. And I like to be hydrated instead of drunk-" Avery said. Though truth be told, his lifestyle was pretty physical so he didn't really need a traditional gym. He had a natural, effortless form instead of an overly souped-up muscle daddy.

Avery shrugged. "You still look great. Not everybody needs to be and honestly, I'd rather my partner looked like you than anybody else here Vincent."

Avery shrugged. "I mean, I suppose Carlos is a nice person. But as much as I like being known for my affinity to top others until they can't remember their own name, I'd like to be known for more than that. I don't always do well with social cues. So I need someone with a little bit of patience and understanding too. I don't just wanna be seen as a walking hard-on. Also, Carlos has no body hair and smells like Jessica Simpson's expired perfume. That he claims he doesn't own. I'm not really into the glitter thing. It's bad for the environment."

"Do you have a type Vincent?" Avery asked curiously. Feeling as though perhaps he'd crossed a line instead of playing the game properly and being coy.

"Oh, I catalogue and study flowers. I make syrups for the bar so I know what goes into them. In winter, I have a hydroponic garden- though no pot. Which I've been asked more than once-" he said, giving Vincent a soft smile.

"You okay?" Avery asked, noticing the change in Vincent's demeanor and the twitching in his eye.

so he was about the views as well, up to some extent. it was good to know, it helped to know who was here for what exactly, though he had to admit that avery didn't quite seem that obsessed with attention, unlike some here. this was a good thing, vincent has here & he played the game as best as he personally could, but he was not made for the spotlight. he much preferred watching from the sidelines. well, not watching watching, but yeah. something like that.

"thanks." head ducked, he was not new to compliments, but they never ceased to amaze him. others saw in him what he failed to & it helped to know, really. he didn't plan to be walking, talking ego on two legs, but a little confidence went a long way. "you too, though. like, yeah." not that vincent had to tell avery he was smokin' hot. he surely heard that all the time.

vincent was as lame as they'd come. no glitter, no perfume, it was just him & incredibly normal clothes. admittedly, he'd gone out of his way for the island & actually bought swimming trunks - yet they still almost reached to his knees while everybody else's were really really short. he also wore a sleeveless shirt just to... well, he didn't really fancy feeling naked in front of all those guys prancing around with perfect abs. the glitter comment did make him chuckle though. "he's a lot to take in, truly." he had no issues with any of the guys, yet. but some were more extravagant than others. "ummmm, i do, but.. i don't? it's not exactly looks i'm after." he couldn't care less about his significant other's looks - old, fit - the opposite. he didn't care too much. "i'm not looking for something cheap & short, y'know?"

it was quite interesting to hear that his hobby helped with work, too. he knew nothing about flowers. "oh, yeah. i'm fine. they're just really loud."

"Mmm. I'd prefer no pranks and everything to be consensual myself. And I think a couple of these guys are on the juice so I'll just jog on the beach if I really feel the need for a workout-" Avery said.

Why was Avery here? He didn't really like the show. It was fine. It was a little outlandish and sure, he'd gotten more than his share of publicity just for being a beefcake. But was it just the flora and fauna? Was it just the chance for 10,000 grand to split with a partner if they married within the year?

Like that had ended so well for the straight couples who had gone for it in the first few seasons.

"No, that's part of the stakes in episode 1. That's why Carlos has been tailing me around. He thinks just because he's a bottom and I'm a top that I'm going to spend the whole time plowing him. He's not- really- my type. He's nice enough though-" Avery said.

Avery gave Vincent a little smile. "No, that's alright. I'm Avery. Bartender, flower expert, and good time curmudgeon-" he said as he heard the sound of about five semi-drunk guys falling sideways into the pool together.

"work out in this heat sounds miserable." vincent thought out loud, his lips forming a little o of surprise when he realized he'd said as much. "i'm uh, not the work out kind of guy ha ha." awkward, but true. being a werewolf had its perks, yes, he could be fitter - yes he could be healthier but he was just fine living life the way he did. food, sleep, work, food. food. he liked food, really. exercising more than an ordinary guy, though? ehhhh nah.

vincent couldn't help a little blush when avery almost nonchalantly mentioned plowing anything other than a field, his heart skipping a few beats. chill, dumbass. "yeah uh, mhm. he certainly seems the kind to... to think that." most of the guy here didn't really want to find love. they came to find a good lay, publicity, money.. in that order. vincent had signed up again in silly naivety, thinking that maybe he could find the one guy that was different. he was, so maybe someone else was, too, right? "what is your type then? i mean, you know, if it's not a nice guy chasing you across the island?" hey, he didn't start it, he was just curious now, nobody could blame him for that.

"flower expert? that sounds really specific." he really was curious now. "what does a flower expert do?" vincent's left eye twitched at the noise, all that music & partying - all that noise slowly but surely trying to give him a headache. on top of that, he'd just once again been reminded he wasn't like most others here.

Now that was cheating. Here he was trying to help him conquer his fears and Vincent was over there tempting him with sexy stuff. He should be furious if it wasn’t adorable and, well yes, sexy maybe even hot. No, it was definitely hot and he could very well hear as the other dropped his clothes and even his underwear. He could even smell the nakedness waiting for him but Vince would probably go for the food first. Not like he had to sit idle and watch him eat when he could eat all that at the same time.

Of course, sexiness didn’t win him over, no, it was jealousy. He knew Vince wouldn’t call the pizza man but he wasn’t willing to test a hungry wolf. He also knew killing the spider with his bare hands would earn him the cold shoulder and he wanted his prize for letting the other convince him. So, he breathed on and took his shoes off carrying one with one hand and the food on the other. He entered the room and…

Bam!

He killed the spider having spotted it from outside. “You should really try to fight off your fears, my love. Your food.” He says nonchalantly offering him the tray with his big meal. “Come here, it’s dead.” He adds throwing the shoe outside the room to clean later.

he might not be the most experienced one when it came to love & relationships, but he sure as hell knew how to get what he wanted when it came to deucalion. they'd been together long enough for him to know which button to push how. it was fun, too - he enjoyed playing brat sometimes. he wasn't sure if he'd call duke his daddy, but alpha did the job just as well.

he was very much aware of what happened behind him in the other room. he could hear that little shit getting his head squashed in & quietly did a little dance of triumph. he flopped down on the couch in the living room, stark naked & fiddled on his phone like nothing was wrong & he hadn't just bribed his lover into doing his bidding.

when he joined him though, the smell of takeaway food wafting up his nose, he all but purred like the loudest, happiest, stupidest little fluff ball of a cat. he sprawled out on the couch, slowly crawling closer to where duke waited for him. "mmmmmmhm. i'm afraid of being hungry, let's fight that fear first." he was hungry. really damn hungry. "sit, so i can take a seat on you." teeth came down on his bottom lip, sly grin marking mischief in his eyes. "please?"

“What?” Duke asked blinking in disbelief. “You’re afraid of a spider? You’re a werewolf, Vincent, you scare it more than it should scare you,” he pointed out. “Besides, you were hungry, were you not? I’m not bringing you the food here and I’m not hunting down a tiny spider either. You can do this.” It was called tough love but it was also an alpha’s behavior to try and toughen up his pups and Vincent may be an alpha but he was Duke’s pup.

"it's a spider. not like, the friendly neighborhood kind, okay?" yes, he'd seen spider man - he was trying to get caught up on human things, really. "big-ass murder spider." okay, it wasn't a spider like he'd seen in horror movies - no idea why he even watched them in the first place when he hated spiders, but.... still. "i can't. it's right there." it was sitting there, staring at him & he could hear its little laugh. yeah, no. he wasn't going to go anywhere near it. he knew it would move if he did.

if deucalion wouldn't bring the food to him & the spider refused to piss off, vincent would either starve, which he was already quite close to, or he had to find a way to bring deucalion over to him. "guess i'll have to just spend the night over here, alone." his shirt dropped first, followed by his jeans & when turned around to walk away, he let his underwear drop. "i'll call pizza. maybe the pizza guy'll protect me."

"No. You'll definitely end up with dicks on your face. Especially if you pick the wrong roommate at the roommate ceremony-" Avery said. "It's a bigger choice than anybody wants to admit."

Avery did have a fierce caring streak, though he didn't show it and he didn't get as sappy as others might. He'd been shown a meme of his face superimposed on the Easter Island statues from one episode where he'd become irrationally angry at some hijinks and some of the tackier contestants had gotten a real kick out of it.

He really didn't want to room with anyone he thought would likely have it pinned up if he started winning big. Or at least he wanted an ally in the shared bathroom space across the hall that he could confide in.

"I usually don't let anyone drink enough that they get into alcoholic comas but there's a lot of downtime here and a lot of beach so I'm being extra vigilant-" Avery said. "You're Vincent, aren't you? You were in the Paolo cast I think."

that could definitely be taken two quite different ways & one was a lot less of an evil than the other. at least if vincent was to judge both possible outcomes. "yeah, no i do think i prefer the safe route." yet, it was day one & he wasn't here to test limits - he came here to find love. kinda. where else could you possibly find love, right? an island full of strangers seemingly being here for the same reason, what could possibly go wrong?

"oh yeah? i .. don't think i had a choice last time, everybody just .. knew." sure, some had argued, some fought but at the end of the day they found a guy to share the room with & vincent had been paired with the one that was left. or so he thought. maybe it'd been planned & he was chosen. he wasn't sure & it didn't matter anymore. nothing had come of it. he didn't know much of the other contestants then, he didn't now. besides not being good with technology & the whole social media nonsense, he preferred to meet people the ordinary way. in person. even if he wasn't good at that either.

"uhhh yeah, that's me. hi. i should've started with that, i guess. and you are?" little smile, hand scratching the back of his head. he should probably explain. "i'm uhh, not good with .. like, the internet. i'm sure i'd know your name otherwise."

Island of the Found : Avery x Vincent

"I wouldn't drink that if I were you-" Avery murmured in a quiet voice. He set down a daquiri in front of Vincent. "For one thing, Peter's drinks might as well be straight rum. For another, completely watery. Do yourself a favor and be good to yourself."

Avery stood up straight from where he'd leaned forward a little on the bar to address Vincent. Avery hadn't been on one of the dating casts with either of them but this was a sort of All Star scenario thing on a new island and Avery hadn't been able to resist since the location had so much good fauna.

Inspite of his no-nonsense personality (or maybe because of it) he'd been a fan favorite and one of the first fan picks for the All-Star Cast. Peter had been showboating (his signature trademark) and Avery had been quietly and quickly going through all the guys who had gotten of the Peteritas and replacing them with a suitable drink. Which now included Vincent.

"oh." vincent glanced to his side, pulling his eyes off the drink he'd been served only mere seconds before & curious whose voice had pulled him out of his little trance. he set the drink down, smiling softly at the other. "thanks, don't wanna pass out on the first night." now, alcohol didn't bother him, so he most likely would've been fine, but this was the perfect opportunity to meet someone new. vincent was not the best (he was terrible) at approaching others & the whole small talk thing, so this was actually quite helpful.

despite his shortcomings in that department, he'd been invited yet again - new island, new luck.. or something, they said. he was a fan favorite for a whole different reason than most others. turns out the people enjoyed watching a clumsy dumbass stumble through dating life. the match he found during the last show... well, it didn't work out.

"you umm.. do that often, saving innocents from alcoholic coma?"
