Something To Think About....

"Unfollow" the people you don't know. Do it. I dare you. Now close your eyes and just breathe. Open your Insta/FB/Twitter again. Doesn't it feel good to not be distracted by someone you don't know? Especially when, in all likelihood, majority of what you see on social media is a lie? Remember, you don't have the time or the energy to care about people that have zero impact on your life. Majority of social media is pure fantasy. You see the carefully selected "good" parts of people's lives; you don't see the struggles, the heartache, the darkness. You only see what people want you to see. And what you see is manipulated to look better than it actually was. Society would be much more accepting and much more friendly without all these mediums through which people can broadcast an edited and perfected version of their lives. Social media has stunted people's ability to appreciate what they have, especially in young teens and young adults. Young people spend so much of their time glued to social media; lamenting the fact that their lives are not as "exciting" as the lives of [insert popular celebrity names here]. And that is because majority of young people don't understand that "celebrity" lives are not realistic and they are definitely not all sunshine and roses. Instead of wishing they had someone else's life, young people should be encouraged to live the life that they want, not the life society makes them believe they should want. My advice? Celebrate the life you've be given. There is nothing wrong with watching your favorite TV show or cheering on your favorite sports team. Just don't let it make you feel that your life is lesser than what you see on screen. Don't compare what you have to what those in the entertainment industry have. I'm willing to bet they would trade lives with you in a heartbeat. If you're too busy complaining that you don't have as much as you think you should, then you'll never actually live the life that you want. You have to be willing to work. You have to be willing to struggle. And in the end, you'll be rewarded with all of life's pleasures that you dreamed about as a child. Don't give up, don't give in. And never compare yourself. Just keep moving forward and everything will happen just as it's supposed to.
