“ Shaxx I’m not going to take sides in this. ” He sighed out for the 20th time. Zavala was rushing towards his home, having an armful of tablets and records to organize and read. “ You know full well the implications of your actions the second you did them during Gap. ” The newly made Vanguard Commander was so tired of this really. He was tired of everything.
In all honesty, Zavala didn’t think he was going to be Titan Vanguard or Commander, he always thought Shaxx would have taken it, he thought Shaxx would ultimately have been a good choice. But then Twilight Gap happened, and he disobeyed a direct order from Saladin and it made an absolute mess of things, and by now Zavala was sighing every five seconds. Any feelings he had for both of them were strained and hurt. When Shaxx mentioned how Zavala knew Shaxx deserved to be the Commander was when he was done.
“ Shaxx. I know, I didn’t expect to become the Commander, I wasn’t racing towards it like a competition like you were. This wasn’t part of any of our plans, but it’s the way it happened. Leave It Be. ” His eyebrows furrowed at the appointed Crucible handler and when Shaxx didn’t say anything he quickly moved back towards his apartment.
Once he was inside he dropped everything onto his coffee table and collapses on the couch. He already missed when they could make jokes with each other before Saladin made the joke worse in some way and they all ended up laughing so hard that their guts hurt for the rest of the day.
He sighed one more time and shut his eyes before picking up a tablet and began shuffling through new information.

Several tactics you did could have easily gotten all of us killed if it wasn’t for the simple fact that we’re a fireteam and the Vanguard. We’re worse for wear, and we almost weren’t able to get that comms data all because you wanted to ’try out a new move.’ ”

“That’s why I said ‘ for the night,’ of course.” She rolled her eyes and a grin suddenly showed her teeth. “You never quit, I know. But some of us actually need to sleep!” It was said in jest, though it was also an acknowledgement of Zavala’s bad habits when it came to down-time. Gyiana watched him sift through the data pads laid out on the table idly, pondering her day’s errands.
“Yeah, the Wall-run wasn’t so bad today, everybody was on top of their game, glad to say!” She rested her hands on her hips and raised her chin triumphantly, pride laced in her words. “The City was easy-peasy in comparison, and that’s really saying something…I don’t think there’s anything else to do?” If there was, she had forgotten; she didn’t really want to spend her evening studying anyway. “I dunno! I think we should hop on outta here, though. I’m hungry!”
He frowned slightly from her comment on his sleeping, listening to her as he grabbed the few tablets he needed. A snort came from him when she exclaimed how hungry she was, “ Let us go eat then. ” His arm swept out towards the exit of the Hall, slowly starting the walk towards home. “ Anything in particular you wanted tonight? ”
“ We could have fish, or some hot soup. What sounds good? “

He remembered the first time being afraid.
It was the first time he was awakened as a Guardian. He had never felt so much fear in his life, he would later learn that there is always room for more fear.
His Ghost had revived him, talking about the Traveler, a savoir, a God. He never believed in Gods. But he could believe in the Traveler.
It was a pilgrimage towards the Traveler, others were like him, suddenly brought back to the world of the living with only whispers of memories. The firsts began to become route holders, helpers, protectors. Guardians.
He wasn’t sure about the name, he didn’t like it at first, to be a Guardian, to be either feared for the ability to never truly die, or to be revered as Gods. Soon there were to many to stop the name from sticking.
They built the walls, further protection for those who were not bless by the Traveler, they had followed the Guardians to this safe place, almost a sanctuary he was told. He didn’t think of it as that, but it was as safe as they were going to get.
Soon there was need for some leadership, something to help organize everything. What Guardians go where, where to put civilians, how to gather resources for this City. The Last City.
He looked up towards the sky, the stars, and he prayed that the name was wrong.
( sorry for basically disappearing for a while my guys, work is kicking my ass and zavala is dying inside going back and forth as a muse so well see what happens, but im still here a lurking )
His normal scowl was off his face for once, it had become an exhausted expression throughout the night. “ I appreciate it, Saint, but all of this needs to be done. Before I get a break. ” Said break was supposed to be had five hours ago, and not at two in the morning.
“You are a strong person, but even the greatest of people, and the ones who everyone looks up to, need sleep. Cayde and Ikora are not here, Shaxx has gone for the night. I do not think even my Father is awake at this hour. Zavala, please.” The fingers resting on the other Titan’s shoulder give a light squeeze, and though he can not give a look of pleading, it can be heard in his voice.
In all honesty, Zavala wanted nothing more than to sleep and rest, he was making mistakes while writing and reading, having to re-read everything again, making his exhaustion even worse. He looked like he was going to relent for a moment, his shoulders dropping down as he felt that squeeze from the other Titan. “ Thank you, Saint, but I cannot sleep right now. My mind won’t let me, it has been difficult the past few days. ”
“Zavala, you need to rest.” Saint vents a sigh, the sound itself filled with white noise static. A hand reaches out to rest on the Awoken’s shoulder. “Your work can wait, I assure you it will not go anywhere while you are sleeping.”
