Am I afraid of the Trump administration? No. Pain brings attention to the wounds that need to heal. We as Americans failed one another by not listening, not affirming, and not valuing the experiences of the Other. Will we do it again? Times of great duress bring about great leaders. Artist, we MUST produce our art unapologetically and full of passion and our voice. Writers, you must write. Singers, you must sing. Doctors, you must heal. On and on, answer your calling. We cannot turn our backs on one another nor our nation; the future is OURS. We are not helpless nor hopeless. We are powerful beyond measure. In the face of danger Ghandi, Rosa, Desmond, Nelson, Martin, Malcolm, John, Hosea, Jesse, Thurgood, Harriett...they did not fall silent and stagnant. They ROSE. They stood strong looking their oppressors square in the eye and said "I will not be silenced and I will not be ignored." It is OUR time to do the same. What choice will you make?

#TBT I wasn't ready to go away to college. I did not know how to accurately express that at the time. So instead, I turned down my full-ride to Auburn and stayed home commuting to UWG where I promptly failed most of my classes. It was the first time I'd ever failed at anything academic. I didn't care though, because my heart was not in school. My heart was in these two. I enjoyed being home much more than being in class.

#TBT front and center. My role model growing up was Ferris Bueller. I wanted to be adored by teachers and students alike. Not only that, I made it my business to float through all social circles; cheerleaders/jocks+band geeks and mathletes. I belonged to all of the above and more. And when I graduated, I left with no regrets, because I was proud of the person I was becoming and I loved the person I was.

#TBT in middle and high school I was both well-known and well-liked. But I kept a very small inner circle. It felt strange to me that people wanted to be my friend because of who they assumed I was. Especially when I was still figure out who I was, for myself.

#TBT by the time I was 5, I was reading, writing, dancing, learning Spanish, reading music, and insatiably nosy. People outside of my family began to see great promise in me.

#TBT as we grow and develop we are constantly shedding and growing into new versions of ourselves. Baby Jess was curious and she was light. So much so that her family took to calling her Sunshine ☀️

In 2 0 1 6| I learned to love myself more deeply and unconditionally than ever before. It was the 🗝that unlocked a whole new layer of eVOLution for me. I grew more deeply into myself. I grew more deeply into my love of others. I demanded the same sort of intimacy with my vocation. I truly did Surrender and in doing so, EYE found God within myself and EYE loved HER fiercely. Everything became secondary to the feeling of alignment with She and I. #NYE
