born Zhang Ru in london, 1468. her father migrated from china when his family began to be hunted down for its witchery after a close family friend witnessed her father practicing magic. he was the only survivor at eighteen years old, and somehow found voyage to the western world with zero knowledge on its culture and language. with a butchered english, he met her mother who, not only taught him how to survive in another continent, but also fell in love with, pretty much at first sight. eventually, she revealed to him this very secret part of her: she was also a full blown witch ( talk about fate ). both of them began a secret relationship as it was an interracial relationship and his father had p much nothing that would secure a future for them.
after a few months, her mother became pregnant and they knew they couldn’t keep this a secret any longer. not that wasn’t expected, but her mother’s family ended up disowning her and her parents had to find a way to make it through, with little use of powers as possible due to the witch hunts taking place. her mother asked for a close friend’s help, an old man whose very presence instilled fear in p much everyone. he allowed them to stay for however long necessary and eventually, thea was born. even though her mother died at childbirth due to the conditions following her birth, thea ( ru, at the time ) was still under her father’s and the man who she’d eventually grow to call uncle’s wing. they never kept any secrets from her, so she knew from the start she came from a lineage of witches and one day her powers would trigger.
and it did, when she was about twelve years old, except it wasn’t in the way her father expected. the first time she siphoned magic, she almost killed her father. and although she didn’t, it did bring enough attraction from the villagers to target them as potential witches. it all happened to fast, how they barged in their home, took her father and how, by trying to stop it, her uncle took the bullet for her as he hid her in this secret compartment in the house that led to a secret tunnel out of the village. that night she didn’t do much, other than cry as the screams of both men she had gotten killed carved in her memory.
after grieving for a couple of months and several more living of leftovers in the streets, she ended up in north england, where theodora porter took her in and thea took care of her for years to come until her death.
when she was twenty-two, though, she met a woman who did not fail to catch her eye. thea had spent years without using magic as there were no sources to siphon magic from, but once they had been intimate, thea unwittingly drew magic from her and learned that she was a vampire. it didn’t change their relationship much. though neither had the strongest of feelings for and merely used each other for company, they looked after the other, and to ensure this, thea was asked to drink a bit of blood every day.
tw rape/death. though she might’ve fallen in love with her, both parted ways after a couple of years later. it was night they bid farewell when thea ( who still went by ru ) wandered alone on the streets and bumped into a group of sailors. even though she fought them as much as she could, not only had she not practiced magic enough to control it, the amount she drank everyday was not enough and she was outnumbered. beaten and broken, thea died alone on a dirty and dark corner. and it was the same place she came back to life
although bewildered to the bone, she had this thirsty for both blood and magic that took over her and vengeance was the only thing in her mind. it took her a few years, but eventually she murdered all of her rapists in ways one would fail to imagine.
from that point on, her life has been pretty chill, you know, for a hybrid. she’s been all over the world and has always taken great pleasure on feeding from men, especially. at this point in her life, she just wants to have a good time and rarely ever takes things seriously. she’s always looking for adventures and while she’s pretty laid-back and easy-going and always looking to have fun above all, she’s easily irritating as well and very volatile and thus, hard to control.
once she became a heretic, she started to go by theodora/thea/teddy in honor to the lady that lent her a hand in times of need while keeping her father’s last name.
TLDR;; if you see beyond the fact that she’s a heretic that needs blood to survive and just TAKE it w/o a care in the world, the fact that she’s got some nice ass powers that she won’t mind using and the fact that she can be very explosive and likes to push some buttons just for the funsies, she’s a semi-alright person !! just a five hundred year old girl looking for a partner in crime~ that it .
