The universe doesn't have a purpose because it doesn't operate in ways that are efficient and/or friendly to life? "There's no purpose because things aren't how I think they should be based on science." That's strikingly similar to "There IS purpose because things aren't how I think they should be based on morality." Also, religious ideas aren't useful because they don't predict how the earth goes around the sun? That's not what those ideas are FOR. Just because some ones voice has gravitas, doesn't mean they make good arguments.
