Her eyebrows furrowed as she considered what to do next, she couldn’t just keep him tied up like this forever. Students she wasn’t worried about, but it might be difficult to explain the scene to a teacher if one walked by. Besides, she was starting to think his fear wasn’t just because of her in which case he was the least of her worries. “Did someone tell you follow me? Are they threatening you?” She asked, her tone was still harsh but she loosened the jink ever so slightly. “If they are, I can help you. I can protect you if you just tell me who sent you.”
He began to regain control of his breath as she loosened the jinx, but not so much that he wasn’t still having to remind himself, hey, buddy, you need oxygen to live! and take a breath every now and then. It’d be a shame to die of lack of oxygen after narrowly avoiding certain death (at least he thought so). “If they know I’ve told you, I’m dead,” he said, or rather squeaked. “He’ll kill me, you don’t... he’s going to kill me. Hell, I don’t even know why he wanted me to do this, or I’d tell you, but... I can’t tell you who it is. I just can’t.”
bygilderoylockhart:
Gilderoy’s eyes lit up with a mixture of surprise and excitement. His heart stopped, and it was a moment before he could catch his breath.
Finally, he laughed. “ You don’t need permission to tell me what to do; feel free to come up with as many rules as you want!” He raised an eyebrow. “I trust you not to abuse that power.” Gilderoy said sternly.
“Unfortunately, any other requests you might have for me are going to have to wait. Stimulating conversation doesn’t exactly scream “nap time”, and I think it’s best I be getting to bed.”
Gilderoy smiled as he transfered from Ted’s bed, and into Caradoc’s. He moved in close, then pulled his husband in for a kiss.
In all Doc’s wide expanse of experience, he never thought his first reaction to receiving an impromptu kiss would be to laugh hysterically, but there he was: freshly kissed by Gilderoy Lockhart (by Gilderoy Lockhart!), and unable to stop himself from giggling.
“You...” he said, after collecting himself for a bit. “Okay, sorry, I... did that happen, or did I just astral project? My soul hasn’t left my mortal body, or anything, I mean... here, let me check.” Hesitantly, he pulled Gil in for another kiss.
amalialazaro:
“You know if we take how daring you are and how well I do in negotiations, we could start a business and I honestly believe we would be a success. I suggest mugs and possibly gloves?” Had the idea come out of nowhere? No, not really. It was in the nature of nerves to grow stronger the more something was thought about and as it grew closer, they grew stronger. A distraction, she believed, would help any nerves that could have been manifesting and hiding within both of them. “I think the fun in impulse decisions is the moment of realizing you’re either fucked or a genius. There’s no going back and you have to kind of look life in the face and go ‘I lived.’ Or you know, it’s the adrenaline rush.”
With a small gasp and a look of feign shock, Amalia turned to look over towards Caradoc as they continued walking. “My mother will be so overwhelmed with tears she may start singing. Bunnies and singing, oh if only my parents had known when I was little just how lucky they would get with their son-in-law.” She joked before looking back towards the path and leading Caradoc around the stagnant groups of students as they reached the Wizarding village. “A joint Christmas sounds lovely but you must be ready to sing the song about the Donkey from Bethlehem in Spanish. Don’t worry, I’ll help you with the pronunciation. Do you think it’s safe to say that our family will be big on animals?”
“Sweet Merlin, Amalia, you genius. Mugs and gloves with bunnies on them. Like your tattoo! No, like our tattoos. I’ve got to represent our business well. That does it, I’m getting the tattoo,” he said decidedly, determined to push his inevitable anxiety over such an impulse decision away to the last second. “I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think I’ve made an impulse decision in... ever, so I can’t relate, but I’m sure I’ll be able to soon. Plus, this design is pretty fantastic, so I doubt there’ll be any buyer’s remorse. Or tattooer’s remorse? Is that the proper term?”
“Our mothers can have a duet. A maternal menuet. No, a merry maternal menuet! We’re so smart,” he said, throwing an arm around her shoulder. He needed as much comfort as possible, at current. “Oh, darling, I’ve never been more ready to launch my singing career. Or I could sing in English, and you in Spanish? For a fun, optional remix? We can try both ways. And, yes, of course. Our family will be envied lands over for our animal passion and tattoos! By the way, is it cool if I half suffocate-half hug you for the remainder of the walk? I’m turning to jello as we speak.”
thewarymary:
Mary listened to him with wide eyes and a big smile on her face. It was so good to hear his voice and to see him, it was like all her troubles were not that big of a deal now that he was around. “You must tell me all of it!” She exclaimed, quite excited to hear about all that has happened since they had been distant. “Mundungus, huh?” She raised an eyebrow, wondering just how big of a help the guy had been to Doc.
Once he asked about her, Mary’s smile slipped a little. She wasn’t ready to talk about Mulciber to anyone yet. She shook her head, regaining herself and thought of what to tell him. “Hmm, honestly, nothing that I can think of. I’ve been studying a lot though, and thinking about what I’m going to do once I leave Hogwarts. It’s quite daunting, but I think I will be okay with you and all my other friends around!” She certainly hoped that they would all still be around in her adult life. “But, Doc, really. You must tell me all that you’ve gotten yourself into.”
If I told you even half of it, we’d be here for days, he wanted to say, but refrained. He didn’t know why he couldn’t tell Mary, why he hadn’t told her everything that had happened with Rodolphus; she was, after all, his closest confidant. He’d told Daisy, who he loved very dearly, but if he had gone back in time and told himself from three months previous that he’d trust Daisy with his deepest secret and not Mary, he never would’ve believed it. “Mundungus indeed! He’s wonderful. I mean, he’s no Mary, but he’s good to talk to. Or, er, study with. We studied. As study buddies do.”
“Have you come up with any post-Hoggy Warty Hogwarts plans? We’ll be gone before you know it,” he said, raising a brow. What could he tell her he’d been up to that was interesting without divulging everything? There was the Gilderoy situation, but frankly he had tired of thinking about it a bit. Remus! That was the ticket. “Well, Remus Lupin and I went on a date, I think. Maybe two? I dunno if the first one really counted.”
daisyxhxxkum:
She knew he was merely saying those words to comfort her. Of all people in the school, Daisy knew how high the stakes truly were of these seemingly harmless games they all played. While she knew that she wasn’t exactly helping Doc feel better about how stressful his life had become, Daisy also had no idea how to pretend as though this news of Doc’s was okay with her. It broke her heart to know that the chance of losing Doc too had become a very real part of reality. Deep down Daisy knew there wasn’t much she could do to stop it, even if it was all she could fathom spending her time on now. His words seemed to press knives into her heart at the exact places that already ached, reminding her of the real crux of the matter. It was just another reminder of how incredible of a person Caradoc was. Her head dipped into his shoulder as she felt her chest tighten, knowing that she could stop the tears from releasing. “I know, you’re right. Okay–O-okay. I’m sorry Caradoc I’m the worst friend. It’s no wonder people don’t tell me anything because they are right that I can’t handle it. I’m not strong enough.” She rambled on as tears sputtered out of her eyes, still hiding in his shoulder. All that Daisy wanted to do now was support him and make him feel happy and stress free. But how could she possibly do that while she was crying into his shoulder? She pulled back from him, wiping her tears away with her robe. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Can we pick this up again a little later. I–” She sighed, placing a hand gently on his arm as she frowned, briefly finding the strength to calm herself enough to tell him her plan. “Caradoc I want nothing more than to just be there for you and relieve your stress in whatever way I can. I promise, I won’t do anything stupid. I just–I just need a few moments to myself and I know that’s so selfish right now. But I promise, I’ll be back to talk all things Gilderoy and anything else you want.” The impending doom that swirled over her head constantly seemed to be crashing down upon her now. She just needed some time to digest it all.
He simply didn’t know what to say in situations like these. As sociable as he was, he was used to low tension situations, wherein anything heavy or vaguely uncomfortable could be shrugged off as a joke and moved on from. This wouldn’t be dismissed with a laugh, a slap on the back, and a quick Relax, I’m just joking! I’d never really work with Rodolphus Lestrange. They were well past that, and frankly, Doc was relieved to have half of the truth off of his chest. He had a new goal, though, and that was to a. reassure Daisy while b. encouraging her to stay far out of harm’s way. “That’s not true, Daisy, listen to me - I’ve not told anyone else about this. Not a single soul. Even Mary and Ted. And that’s because you are strong, okay? And you’re a great friend, the best I could’ve asked for right now,” he said, voice growing more and more emphatic as he pressed on. He would do anything just to see her happy again, or to at least know he hadn’t caused her to cry. “I... understand, if you need some time to yourself, just... you aren’t just my friend to relieve my stress, you know? I want to relieve yours, and I know I’ve probably just exponentially added to it, but you know there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you. Really. You’re one of the few people this year that have kept me sane, and it’s not fair for you to have to carry anything by yourself, especially if I can help you.” He tried a smile, but it didn’t come out well. He wanted more than anything to beg her not to go, but he’d learned to leave her be when she needed it.
mflecher:
“Nonsense, most people naturally have one of them. You’re probably just in some sort of slump and it doesn’t help that our magic is somewhat tied to our emotions.” He shrugged lightly as he opened his book to a review section and began to search for an easy enough spell that wouldn’t get them thrown out of the library before the smoking did. “I’d suggest talking to someone if you’re having personal problems that need to be worked out. I’m not a therapist and really most things go in one ear and out the other.”
A small chuckle left him as he found a spell and began to turn towards the page it should have been on. “Really you’re too kind, Caradoc. I’m one step closer to controlling the cat population here, McGonagall is gonna be the hardest but she’s worth it. Don’t tell Madam Hooch I said that, she’d go green with envy.” He joked as he frowned slightly when the spell he was looking for wasn’t on the page. “Confidence, Caradoc. You have to say that you are capable of it and keep telling yourself that until you believe it. It’s like that Quidditch thing, you fly and then tell yourself you can get the ball in the hoop.”
“Yes but Mary looks a little questionable in the mornings so I understand her but I’m entirely perfect in the mornings. I’m much more reliable.” He teased as he looked up at Caradoc for a moment before returning to he summary page. “A kiss? Well I can’t lie to you Caradoc, from the very moment you stepped foot into my little Ravenclaw life my heart begged for nothing more than a kiss from you. I know it sounds a little creepy but believe me muggles would write stories on what a love between us could be. So a kiss from you? I’d like to say yes but the world is not yet ready for that.”
“My emotions are okay! I feel totally normal, like I could take on the world,” he said, feeling rather ridiculous the moment the words left his mouth. He felt as if he could take on a maximum of one minor complication without completely breaking down, and that was only because today was a relatively good day. “Well, I dunno, maybe not, like, normal normal, but close enough. It’s probably just exam stress, right? I used to be okay at this.”
“No, no, it’s my pleasure to turn Hiccup over to your loving dictatorship! As long as I get visitation every other weekend or so, it’s entirely alright,” he said, then leaned in, as if to suggest they were in on some big secret together. “No worries, Mundungington, your secret’s safe here. I’ll not tell a soul, not even my closest confidants. Confidence, though, yes! I’m confident, one hundred percent. Just like quidditch.” Quidditch, which he didn’t have to think about, which allowed his mind to turn off and his muscles to do all the work. Transfiguration was another story entirely - one tiny mistake lead to another, which lead to him doubting himself, which lead to another mistake.
“Right, she does. That hair! It’s charming though, isn’t it? Sort of endearing?” he said, smiling fondly. “Not to say that you aren’t too, in your own perfect way. I’m glad to hear that! I’m sure the muggles would love to hear about our romance, but as you say, it’s too good to be true. Perhaps in another life.”
bygilderoylockhart:
“You make some good points.” Gilderoy nodded, as though he had been given a lot to think about. Of course, he already knew what he wanted to do, and with everything going through his mind lately, letting Caradoc get a little closer to him had to be exactly what he needed right now.
Finally, he smiled. “Alright, I’ll marry you, but there are two conditions.” Gilderoy said, warning Caradoc what he was getting into. “First, we’re keeping the bracelets.” He pulled down his sleeve a bit, pointing to the bracelet he had made for their first marriage. “And second, but more important - if you leave me for Ted “the seventh year Hufflepuff” Tonks, I’m taking everything in the divorce.”
“I tend to make those, yeah,” he said. “And you’ve made a good one yourself, in marrying me.” Admittedly, he had taken off his bracelet after the incident with the Insider, but it had remained safely tucked in his bedside table. He rolled over, stretching out so he could reach the handle to the drawer where it was stored. After finding the bracelet, he held it up so Gilderoy could see, and slipped it on his wrist. “Condition one, check. Condition two... check. Ted and I will reluctantly remain friends who sleep near each other, but never with each other. Promise.”
That was at least three times that GIlderoy had avoided Caradoc’s bed, and at the moment he thought it may be better to leave things be, regardless of what he wanted. “Do I get to give you any rules? Like, only one mention of Rita per conversation, unless otherwise specified, maybe?”
bygilderoylockhart:
Gilderoy’s eyes widened. He had been so sure that he had crossed a line, that Caradoc would be angry and throwing him out again. He had never imagined his husband would be this patient with him.
He sat up in bed, once he got over the initial shock, Gilderoy smiled. “I can’t imagine anyone more suited for my hand, though I will have you know, my first husband wasn’t bad either. If anything, I would say he was charming. He was big and strong, and he wanted to protect me.
There was this thing he used to do, where he wouldn’t call me by my name. Always coming up with his own names for me like “Gilson” and “Gillington”.” Gilderoy’s smile widened as he reminisced. “I can’t imagine why that stopped.” The request felt a little embarrassing, but it was one of Caradoc’s things, and Gilderoy missed it.
“You got your math wrong, by the way. Though if it’s alright with you, I’d like there to be some overlap.” He had promised his husband this would be better than naps. Gilderoy just hoped he would be able to go through with it.
“Well, he may have been charming, and strong, but I have evidence to suggest that I might also be charming and strong,” Doc said, smiling. “Plus, I won’t refuse to make room for you in my schedule, unlike that old bloke. I say it’s time you let him go, darling! I’d be a much superior husband.”
To say he was surprised was something of an understatement. Caradoc wouldn’t have expected Gilderoy to admit to liking his nicknames in a million years, mostly because he wouldn’t expect him to like them to begin with. It took a lot of willpower not to look away. “I think something along those lines can be arranged, since you’re so fond of it.”
He paused for a moment, then shook his head. “Gillington, please, you know maths have never been my strong suit. Just come here, and we’ll figure the overlap portion out. Please?”
thewarymary:
Mary had regretted not being able to be with Caradoc more, but tonight that would all be remedied. She had been quite eager to meet up with him, and to bask in the warmth he radiated. He always had a way to cheer her up, and put a smile back on her face. God knows she needed to relax for awhile, and who better to do that with then Caradoc. She made her way to the Hufflepuff common with quick steps and a smile slipping onto her face as she reached her destination.
As soon as she was in the common room, she was enveloped into a hug. She melted against Caradoc, her arms slipping around him. She could’ve stayed like that for awhile longer, but he pulled back. Mary giggled at his words, “I’ve missed you a lot too, Doc.” She hugged him again, tighter this time. “Let me just stay like this for a little bit.” She let out a content sigh, feeling quite safe in his arms. Once she pulled away from him, she began her ceaseless rambling. She had so many questions and concerns, and it was all just rolling off her tongue. “How are you? How’s your studying going? I hope it’s well, or I might sign you up to my tutoring sessions. Anything new happen since we’ve been distant?” She only paused to take another breath. “Oh, Doc, I really have missed you so much! I’m so sorry that I haven’t been putting in as much effort as I should be. I had been meaning to see you for awhile but I just couldn’t get around to it. Forgive me?”
Mary was like a breath of fresh air amidst all the stress he had been experiencing. He could really just sit there and listen to her speak for hours, if necessary, about anything and everything, about the most mundane aspects of her life, because she could make nearly anything interesting, or if she couldn’t make something interesting she could at least be endearing doing it. “I’m doing much better now that I see you. Seriously, I’ve been dying! Well, not dying, but I’ve got so much to tell you, it’s insane. My studying is... well, it’s happening, sort of? I’ve been getting some help from Mundungus, and he’s been a big help.” In some, non-studying aspects, that was true. But, as per usual when he was around someone he liked, it was difficult to focus on schoolwork when there was opportunity for real conversation. “No, no, it;s my fault too. We were both busy, and now we both forgive each other for being awful, yes? How have you been, though, Mary? Any new developments in Mary Town that I’ve missed?”
andrxmcdablxck:
Andromeda couldn’t tell if his weakness was really caused by pain she had inflicted or if it just an act, either way it was only making her feel less sympathetic towards him by the second. Seeing that he was down she didn’t cast any further spells in his direction but she refused to reverse the leg-binding jinx just yet. ”I’ll let you go when you give me a decent answer.” This whole situation was making the Slytherin highly uncomfortable. She took no pleasure in causing pain to other people and though she knew that her stunning spell had only been strong enough to cause a few bruises at most, his cowering was starting to make this feel like some form of torture. “Why were you following me?” She repeated the question firmly, making it clear that he had no intention of backing out. “Even if your pathetic excuse is true, creeping around behind a girl as she walks through the hallways alone is still disgusting. No matter who you thought she was.”
Caradoc would have loved to supply her with a decent answer, or really with anything that would have gotten him off safe, but his thoughts came at the moment seldom and only half-distinguishable. What could he possibly say that would make this less painful? It was the only thing that mattered, at the time, not the fact that he’d been stalking someone that didn’t deserve it, and certainly not that the whole situation was royally screwed and condemning. “I was following you because...” he clutched his wand, searching desperately for anything to say. “I don’t... no, I can’t. I can’t. I’m sorry.”
amalialazaro:
“Fully alive? Caradoc that is quite the daring statement.” False seriousness accompanied her words as she seemed to think about what had been said. “Lets just say I’m alive and that’s more than enough.” A small nod of her head and Amalia took another step out into the pathway. “Most people would say that’s the smart way to do things but impulsive decisions sometimes make for the best memories… maybe not in the moment though.” Almost absentmindedly, she reached over to take his hand in hers once more though it was only once his hand was in hers that she wondered if he was okay with it. “Do you mind if I hold your hand? I can stop if it bothers you.” Almost as if to prove her point, she let go of his hand and taking a step away from him.
“Thank you, I like to think that I can successfully negotiate the things that matter. Besides, most everything is a little better when there’s a promise of alcohol but you didn’t hear that from me.” A playful smile lined Amalia’s lips as she spoke though the mention of her mother brought out a chuckle. “Honestly I don’t think she’d let you leave without promising to become part of the family after she sees this tattoo. I mean, who doesn’t love bunnies? You’ve basically guaranteed your place at our table come Christmas.”
“I know, I know! I didn’t mean to overstep, but I was feeling particularly daring,” he said, grinning. “Yes, let’s.” Doc smiled, almost wishing he felt the same way. Impulsive decisions were never his strong suit, even less so than regular, non-impulsive, well overthought decisions. “Ah, but what’s the fun in that if you can’t make a list weighing all the pros and cons and worry about what choice you’re going to make for days on end? Sometimes I wonder, Amalia. All these newfangled ideas are sort of extreme.” He grabbed her hand again, more than comfortable with it. “Not at all.”
“You are absolutely undeniable in a pinch,” he said, shaking his head. “Well, then we’d just have to tell her about our marriage to keep her satiated. I’ve not met her, but she must love bunnies. There’s no way she doesn’t! We could have a joint Christmas, you know. Both of our families, all in one place!”
ted-xtnks:
“I know I can always rely on you to protect me.” Ted chuckled as he listened to Caradoc continue. Caradoc never failed to put Ted in a better mood and he was always thankful to have a friend like him in his life. He laughed louder shaking his head in an attempt to protest against what the other Hufflepuff boy said “You’re just so rude. Can’t even spare me a couple of compliments.” It was hard to have conversations where everything was simple and there wasn’t any other hidden messages. “I really don’t like the idea of dealing with a body, it’s just quite messy and not good for my reputation. I guess we just must go down to the pub.” Ted sighed dramatically. “Come on then mate, to the pub we go!” He put his arm around the other boy leading them out of the castle. “I know you want to cuddle with me Doc, stop being so obvious with your flirting. We must go to the pub, I don’t think we can be left alone.” he teased.
“Of course, your highness,” Doc said, “Sir Caradoc the Great is here to take care of you! Any and all dragons or otherwise dangerous creatures and individuals will be promptly slain.” This was what he was missing. There was a part of him that couldn’t be satiated with the company of Rodolphus Lestrange or his own worries - only Ted, as stupid as their conversations tended to be, was capable of bringing him back to normalcy. “Well, let me mull it over, at least. As much as I’d love to compliment you, and as much as I have a running log of compliments you deserve in my head, you’ll have to keep that pretty head of yours in waiting for just a second.” Doc gladly walked along with Ted, happy to get out, really. Besides, they couldn’t have a real Caradoc and Ted BFF reunion without the pub. “If you insist, darling, but you must stop playing so hard to get! You know it frustrates me endlessly. You’ll give into my charms soon enough.”
💭 Caradoc is in love with Ted and is using Gilderoy go get over him.
Nope! Doc and Ted’s relationship is entirely platonic (except in Tedoc AU land). He’s not above flirting with him or acting as if they’re dating/having a forbidden affair in front of people, though. It is great to mention in front of Gil, just for fun!
💭 Caradoc and Rod are lovers
Not quite! Their relationship is at its core extremely toxic, and while Doc has objectively noted the fact that Rod isn’t entirely unnattractive, he would never approach that sort of intamacy with Rod. Probably.
💭 Caradoc is in love with Gilderoy and is using Remus to get over him
This one has some truth. Caradoc genuinely does like Remus, but the timing with which he appeared in Doc’s life just happened to be when he needed someone to help him get over Gil. He probably still would’ve dated him if Gilderoy wasn’t a factor.
