I hope that after scrolling through this page, your knowledge and awareness about the Carbon Cycle has increased. Remember that you are the one who can make the change, simply by being more conscious of your personal carbon footprint. It may not seem like you individually can make a big difference, however every person counts. With your participation we can all reduce our carbon footprints, and halt the corruption of our carbon cycle.

Spread the word at your school!  Put posters up, throw an assembly, anything to get the word out. Maybe even start a club for others to be aware of the situation.

The United States has the highest Carbon Dioxide rate out of most countries!! The average per capita is 17.2 metric tons of carbon in the United States.  This is something we are not proud of!

 How can you guys help?   

Recycle and reduce!  When throwing something away, try to see if there is a recycling bin nearby.  If there isn’t, maybe suggest starting one.  Grab a box, make a sign and bam there is your recycling!  Did you know that recycling half of your household waste can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually!

Use less heat and air conditioning!  While you're at home and you’re feeling hot, try opening a window rather than the AC.  Another thing you can do is add insulation to your walls and attic, and installing weather stripping around doors and windows.  This can lower your heating costs more than 25 percent, by reducing the amount of energy you need to heat and cool your home.

Driving less/driving smart

As teenagers, some of us are now at the age where we can start driving. However, the more drivers, the more emissions.   When going out, try to think about other options such as riding your bike, walking (which is also good exercise) or car pooling.  Adding this to your daily routine can start helping me feel better!  Every gallon of gas you save will help your budget, and it keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere!  

This won’t just help me, but it will help you!

Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are rising. Carbon dioxide levels have jumped by three parts per million in 2015 and 2016. This is a major jump in the levels from when they were lower in 2014!!  I am scared about what 2017 will look like!

Fun fact!  Around a million of tons of carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere every day!!!

Look at this photo.  it shows many of the effects to me just from your every day life.  Driving your car produces carbon into the air.  Factories which make all the things we use every day release carbon.  Even using your phone!  Did you know that the carbon footprint of using a mobile phone is: 47kg CO2e: one year's typical usage around 2 minutes per day 1250kg CO2e: one year's usage at just 1 hour per day 125 million tonnes CO2e: global mobile usage per year!  

Guys please think about how much you’re on your phone and driving around. If you can walk or ride your bike somewhere do that!  Take a break from your phone and go outside.  It’s not just hurting my future it is also hurting yours!

What is the problem here?

The problem here is that humans are messing up the carbon cycle. Unusual amounts of carbon compounds are being released into the atmosphere as a result of human actions.  Such as harvesting and burning fossil fuels. Too much carbon in the atmosphere leads to things like greenhouse gases and global warming and we all know that “too much of a good thing” isn’t always good!

This is a diagram of the carbon cycle. The carbon cycle is the process where carbon travels from the atmosphere into organisms and the Earth and then back into the atmosphere.   Carbon can be looked at as the “building block” of life because all living things are made up of carbon.

I am in danger!

The world is becoming worse and worse. Changes in the carbon cycle are making me very sick.  I want you guys to try to understand what you’re doing to make me feel like this.
