App Recommendation for Green/Garden Witches: Vera
I looked into a watering schedule app that sends notifications because all of my plants need different watering times right now. I tried a few that were in the App Store and this one is by far the best in my opinion. I enjoy using this, I didnât enjoy any of the others.
Pros
You create the entirety of the plantâs profile. You can put in a name, species, photo, what date you got the plant, where it is, and thereâs a note section designated for special care info. This customizable setup is so much more user-friendly than the apps that make you scroll through a list of plants to select yours (if they even have it) and then gives you the uneditable watering schedule that doesnât take into account your humidity, plantâs life stage, etc
You can choose what day of the week the watering schedule starts, how often (in days) youâll be notified to water, and when in the day to set off the notification. You can also change the watering schedule of a plant at any time. Similar apps Iâve tried havenât been as customizable
You can select multiple plants or a whole location group to mark as watered at once, instead of having to go through each individual profile to mark them
You can go on to a plantâs profile to see when it was last marked as watered and what day itâll next need to be watered. I find this helpful to be able to check and some other apps didnât have that info available to the user
You can use this app to track your plants growth progress through photos. It puts photos in the activity feed so it logs the date/time at which you upload a photo to the app, making it time-trackable. Thereâs also a âphotosâ tab next to the activity feed if you only want to see the photos, so theyâre easily accessible
To me at least, this app is a lot more visually pleasing and user-friendly to navigate than similar apps Iâve tried. The font is big but not overwhelming, the layout is aesthetically simplistic but not dumbed down, and everything makes perfect logical sense as to where they put it and such. As for app layout, left to right there is a home page (first picture), a menu of all your plants sorted by location (third picture), a button to add a new plant, a page to mark plants as watered (second picture), and lastly an info/your profile/social page (that last one doesnât do much except let you log in and leave a review). As you can tell, the app is very straight forward and I like the layout
Cons
You canât undo a watering. If you accidentally mark a plant as watered that day I havenât found any way to reset it to needing to be watered. So just be careful of which plants youâre marking!
me, a witch: may i offer you a good vibe in this trying time?
October Week 1: Herbal Research, Use, History and more
Hello hello! This month is about a varying array of topics, concerning the tools and ingredients of witchcraft. Weâre going to focus first on herbs, then gems, then other tools and tricks of the trade. Research, safety, handling and so on will all be part of these prompts. Along with these prompts of course we will have our normal herb, gem, deity, power and other prompts.Â
Monday: Science and Magic: Proper Research
Research- There is more to plants than just their magical uses. A great deal of scientific information can be garnered from studying plants. The way they grow, handle energy, eat, feed, what they are made of⊠there is so much that can be garnered from them under the scrutiny of both a magical eye and a scientific one. So how do we distinguish between the two? And where/ how do they overlap?Â
Science - When looking at plants from a scientific perspective, there are many things to learn about them. What chemicals is the plant derived from? What medicinal uses do they have? Where/ how do they grow? Do they grow differently in different places and situations?Â
Magic - Just like the above, different cultures, different peoples, different places have the same (or similar) plants that are used sometimes for the same purpose, or different purposes. Where do these ideas and uses come from? How does this plant relate to magic? How does its growth, its appearance, its properties relate to magic?Â
Putting them together - Now think about the above ideas. Science and magic and physical properties. How do they interweave with each other? How does a plants taste or how it works with our bodies influence its magical properties? Most often an objects physical properties have a lot to do with its metaphysical properties.Â
Herb Study - Â Make a new page or note about an herb you have not studied yet. Look up its origins, how to grow it, its culinary, mundane and magical uses, along with its various associations. How was this herb used and thought of throughout history? Does it have any relation to myths and legends? What elemental relationships?
Tuesday: Identification, Classification, Apps
Research/ Identification - What are some of the common ways to identify and classify plants? Leaf shapes, coloration, number of leaves, number of blossoms and stems, types of growth etc. What are some other ways to identify, safely, related to the senses. Keep in mind, allergies are a thing, and if youâre not sure if you are allergic to certain plants, be CAREFUL.Â
Apps/ Websites - There is a great wealth of information online. Plants are no exception. Look up some websites and apps for smartphones to use to help you identify plants, how to use them, and more. The more you know about the plants youâre working with, the better youâre able to use them.Â
Gem Study -Â Again, make a new page or a new note about a specific gemstone. What is it used for in magic? What is it used for in non magical applications? Is it associated with any myths, legends, or deities? Where on earth is it found? What are its other associations? What element and zodiac relations does it have?
Wednesday: Uses, Associations, Correspondences
Research - Once youâve identified what the plant is, youâll be able to figure out how and why to use it, what to use it for, and what not to use it for. You donât always have to use the prescribed associations and correspondences that others label plants with. If you feel that a plant has a certain association, and you feel it strongly, then that association will hold more true to your use of it than someone elseâs. (Think about it in terms of mint. Some people consider it a warming herb for its âspiceâ while others consider it cooling). When you know what the plant can be used for, traditionally, youâll be able to think of other ways and reasons to use it.Â
Deity/ Power Study - Â Look up a deity or source of power you work with. What are some ways to show devotion to that deity/ thanks to the power source? What offerings do they prefer? How and where are they generally worshiped? What are this deityâs associations?
Thursday: History, Lore, Safety
Research - Plants have as much of a history on their own as they do being used by us. Look into ways to tell where certain plants come from, where they are native to, how and when they reached different parts of the world. What kinds of lore, traditions and superstitions are associated with where they came from and how they got from place to place? Were deities involved? These are all the kinds of questions to look into when using these things for magical and religious purposes. What ways and places can you use to find this information?Â
Safety - This is a big one. There are a great many poisonous, and even just flat out hazardous, plants in this world. Before you dive into using any plant, even common ones, you should be aware of the hazards if there are any, of using that plant. What are some ways to tell if a plant is poisonous? What kinds of things should you look for? What kinds of things on plants should you avoid, aside from the obvious things (like thorns).
Divination Prompt - Â Perform some divination! A tarot or rune draw, a scrying, anything! Find a tarot spread here or elsewhere, or just do a single card draw. Once youâve begun, journal the entire process. From the question you ask, to the card/ rune/ etc that you pull or see in your scrying, and the result of it all. That includes your feelings and thoughts on what the reading reveals.
Friday: Local Plants
Research - This one is going to be easy, and difficult. Think about the area you live in. What kinds of plants are native to the area? What kinds of trees? What kinds of grasses? Flowers? Fruits? Vegetables? Grains? What kinds of plants grow naturally in your area? Look it up, make a list, and study them. How were they used in the past? How common are they now? Do they still grow in abundance or have they been pushed out by other plants coming to the area? What are some places you can go to learn about this? Parks, museums, etc. How do these plants connect to you and your craft?
Woo! Another week done. Good job my friends, and letâs keep on rollinâ on. Weâre nearing the end of the year and hopefully our grimoires are getting full or that we have a long list of topics to study!
Good luck and happy crafting witches!

How to make a three card spread for every problem
Sometimes life gets overwhelming and you donât understand whatâs going on. While big fancy tarot spreads can give you great answers to your questions, where do you start if youâre not sure what the question is or where the poblem lies? You want a quick, simple answer, that gives you a starting point, in this case, a point of view that helps you understand the situation, the problem and how to fix it.
The simple three cards structure
Card 1 is supposed to tell you, where your problem(s) come from. Where there certain events triggering the events leading to the chaos? Maybe your life wants you to confront a new task. What is happening around you may be a reflektion of what is going on inside you, unconciously, or vice versa (especially if youâre an empath).
Card 2 should explain your position in all of this. Even if your problem does not involve chaos, asking where you stand in regards to solving the problem might help interpreting the third card. You can also try and understand your role in a social conflict, how you have influenced the evolution of it so far or how far you have come in understanding and solving the problem.
Card 3 is telling you how to solve it. If you were really lazy or just really good at communicating with/ reading your cards, you might as well skip the first and second card. I think looking at past and present is really helpful in understanding what your card suggests for the future. If you already have a solution in mind you could also ask for the outcome.
Traditionally, you would place the cards next to eachother from left to right, but in the end you can spread them however you feel fits. How you spread the cards of course will have an effect on the interpretation of the interactions of the cards (eg. where figures look etc).
I will now list some example questions:
Card 1 - Finding the root of your problem(s)
Where does my problem stem from?
What happened that triggered this chain of events?
What does most of this mess right now boil down to?
What is at the core of my current issues?
What task am I being confronted with right now?
Card 2 - Finding the place in all of this
What is my role in this current conflict?
Where in this mess is my place right now?
Where am I on the path to solving the problem?
How can I extend my understanding of the problem?
How have my issues progressed so far?
What energy am I currently bringing to this?
Card 3 - Finding a solution
How can I solve this problem/ the issues?
What energy do I need to invite to fix this mess?
What do I need to bring into my life to help me with this?
Whom can I ask for help?
What outcome will the solution that I thought of have?
Obviously you can always draw more cards to get a more detailed and maybe specific answer. Espacially, if you donât feel able to understand one card to is full extend in answering your question. Then asking a follow-up question can be very helpful and you should never shy away from doing so.
I know big spreads are very popular and that is for good reason, but sometimes the small spreads that can be done quick and dirty just do the work in pushing us in the right direction.
If you have any tips yourself, feel free to add onto this.

Being Respectful of Things your Gods Watch Over.
This post was really hard to write but here we goâŠ
I was on my way to pick up my dog when I was almost hit by a speeding car. To be fair, I didnât look both ways before crossing the street and Hermes was the one who pulled me back. Nevertheless he was FURIOUS.
Hermes: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!! SAFETY IS TAUGHT IN FUCKING KINDERGARTEN FOR A REASON!!! SAFETY FIRST!!!
I wasnât used to seeing Hermes this livid. He always has playful energy whenever we interact but today he wasnât having any of that. He was understandably angry, I didnât look because I was fiddling with my phone and assuming Hermes would take care of me.
I was being disrespectful to Hermes, the god of travel. By assuming he would keep me safe and not taking any of the proper precautions to stay safe like looking both ways before crossing the street, I went out of my way to be unsafe and thus, added to his usual job. Heâs currently still a little pissed off with me and I admit Iâm not used to my comedy buddy being the stern one rather than Apollo but this is why I wanted to write this post.
Iâve seen other witches who get in harmâs way under the gist of it belonging to their god. I have met witches who want to interact with wild wolves because their goddess is in charge of wolves, or people playing with fire because their god deals with fire, or people like me who didnât take the proper precautions when traveling.
Your gods may rule over them but that does not mean you can put your life on the line because you suddenly think you are immune to the consequences. You are not. Respect your god and what they rule, by being cautious of it.
They love you and donât want to lose you.

đ»When Others Donât Accept Your Faithđ»
đ» When you embark on your Witch journey, even in this day and age, it is inevitable that you are going to be misunderstood by some people. Wiccans and Witches all over the world have to deal with misconceptions and hostility because of a long history of an extremely warped portrayel of witches. đ» Over the years, I have had countless experiences of comments, both in person and online, from people who are confused and uneducated about Wicca. đ» Television shows, films and books about fictional witches, as enjoyable and harmless as they are, are often mistakenly taken to be a true picture of the Wicca path. Iâve often met people who expect me to use my wand in the same way as Harry Potter, swishing it in mid-air to make a chair levitate. Other misconceptions can be more harmful, such as the idea that we all sacrifice animals, worship Satan, want to cause harm to everything and everyone, hate all Christians and are damned, evil people. In reality, Wicca teaches the complete opposite of this fiction. The faith creates an understanding of the universe that helps you to love and respect and have compassion of everything and everyone. đ» Another major misconception is around the use of the pentagram, which is, of course, the main symbol of our faith. To Wiccans, the pentagram simply represents the elements, but it has been misrepresented in the media and many people think that it is a symbol for worshiping Satan or all evil. đ» I am also often told that our Wicca faith somehow goes against other peopleâs belief in their âgodâ. Wiccans are in no way hostile to other peopleâs religious beliefs. We accept that everyone has the right to their own ideas and philosophies and that diversity makes for an interesting and healthy society.
đč WHAT TO DO IF PEOPLE DONâT ACCEPT IT đč
đź Itâs important not to become angry or annoyed; the general lack of understanding is just a part of life and you will become used to it. However, there are a few things that you can try:
đ First, educate. If you just come out and say, âI,m a Wiccan and I practice witchcraftâ, it can sometimes be a shock to people close to you. Maybe explain the basics of what being a Wiccan means and especially what the witchcraft side of Wicca entails. Find a good article or website to show them that demystifies the misconceptions about Wicca. Often, people are more tolerant and less prejudiced once they have the facts- and realize that youâre not trying to be Harry Potter!
đ If you feel comfortable enough, maybe show them what you actually do, possibly something as straightforward as a cooking spell or some divination, which tons of people who donât declare themselves as witches would also do. This can help show how harmless and positive your practices are.
đ Show them what other witches and Wiccans are actually like. People often have a preconceived mental image of what witches and Wiccans look like and how they (donât) fit into society and daily life! Sharing YouTube videos, pictures from Instagram and blogs by your favorite witches and Wiccans who are successful , positive and compassionate will show that your aspirations in Wicca are not dangerous.
đ And lastly, the most important one: normalize it. Yes- Wicca is exciting, powerful and, in many ways, far from normal, but itâs sometimes best to treat it like itâs not really a big deal. This can calm someone close to you who may feel confused or overwhelmed about the idea that you are practicing witchcraft. Maybe you could show them some of the elements of what you do in witchcraft that are very similar to the things that they might do on a day-to-day basis. For example, so many people enjoy growing their own herbs and plants and they might regularly make home remedies from these, such as mixing lemon, ginger and honey together to soothe a sore throat. Many non-Wiccans also wear precious stones as pendants and rings because they have special sentiments, memories or meanings attached to particular types of gemstones; which is a similar concept to the way that Witches might might wear amethyst on a pendant or keep one in their pocket for protection. These examples are obviously different to creating a spell or potion with intent, but the actual foundation of what many people do as superstitions, for fun and to relate to elements of the natural world is not really that far from mixing a potion and casting a spell.
đ Another example of normalizing your practice would be explaining how and why you have an altar. When people enjoy a hobby, such as playing an instrument or painting, they collect materials and tools connected to and for use in their interest and often get satisfaction from displaying symbolic, useful, sentimental or treasured items. Again, the comparison has flaws, but it can help others see that your actions are not so unusual.
đ Unfortunately however you try to explain your faith, some people will never accept it. For whatever reason, you might find that your choices affect others enough for them to even ask you to stop practicing Wicca or they may not want to be in your life any more. Some may not even be willing to listen to your reasoning. All you can do is explain why itâs important to you and the positive effects that it has on your life. If neither of you are willing to compromise, you will both have difficult decisions to make. Sometimes you just have to accept that people will never understand it, donât argue; just move on. At the end of the day, as a Wiccan, you are the living proof of what Wicca is all about- show the world how a really awesome.fair, kind Wiccan looks and acts. After all, you donât need everyoneâs acceptance in order to do what makes you happy.
