'Stars and Moon' is a lullaby from Brian Jacques' The Taggerung, part of the Redwall series. If you haven't read these books, you really should.
Bells o’er the woodland sound sweet and so clear,
they peal across meadows and streams.
while bees hum about their small dreams.
So slumber on, little one,
all in the warm afternoon.
When the long day is done
and night’s shade has come,
I will bring you the stars and the moon.
Brian Jacques has been a huge inspiration for me, in my writing but just as a person as well. He was a wonderful, wonderful man and I felt the need to pay tribute to him somehow…
((I know this is from The Taggerung and beautiful in context, but I’ve used a picture of Tess from the TV series - from the wiki page - because when I was singing it, I imagined teenage Tess being on dibbun-minding duty and, like her Mum, Cornflower and Sister May before her, having to sing for the little horrors darlings at least a dozen times before they’ll go to sleep and leave her in peace… I just have a lot of feelings over this little Churchmouse, okay?))
