Each of these shirts are made-to-order pieces of apparel, designed with film leaders collected from the same projection booth where I worked and then shot The Cue Dot project.

IT BEGAN WITH MY LOVE OF GOING TO THE MOVIES...

I’m a filmmaker and designer who started out working as one of the last 35mm carbon arc film projectionists, which was where I originally came up with the idea that would become the foundation of Film Leader Co.

It was a late night. I was assembling a film up in the projection booth, wearing a striped t shirt and watching the frames of film flicker past on the assembly bench in front of me, the images whirling and strobing under the light.

As I wound my way through the film, I glanced up for a moment and caught my reflection in a nearby mirror and it came to me: the stripes of my shirt, the beautiful patterns of the strips of film at my fingertips.

The two ideas fused and my core concept for Film Leader Co was born:

Three years later I’ve now been able to execute that idea in the way I originally envisioned it, using more than 2,000 feet of film leaders that I’ve collected over the years, scanned, and then stitched together to create some of the core film strips I use in my patterns and designs.

I’m a big believer in taking strong and simple ideas and combining them in a way that people haven’t seen before. I’m so pleased that after working to bring this new line of apparel out into the world, it’s been met with such enthusiasm.

We’ve now shipped Film Leader Co shirts all over the world: Australia, Canada, the UK, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Austria, Russia, Poland, and points all over the United States!

Yesterday I saw the 70mm roadshow of Quentin #Tarantino's Hateful Eight, at the Regal E-Walk 13 on Broadway here in New York City. What a great experience. The show was perfectly projected (by Mark Pusillo) and it was great to see #70mm #film back on screen again. Between the overture, intermission, respectful audience, and #UltraPanavision aspect ratio, the experience recaptured the magic of the movies... to say nothing of the film itself or the incredible score by Ennio Morricone! The numbers are in and it looks like the film's roadshow performed quite well over the weekend in its 100 theater limited release. People are getting out to see this movie on 70mm film. Shows are selling out. New show times are being added. It's great to see audiences responding to this experience- and my congratulations to all involved.
