this will be my last post on sidona!

sid was a big part of me growing into adulthood. i started them when i was maybe 15? and i’m going to be 22 this year

sid was fun. i made a lot of very close friends through their blog and drew a whole ton of art. i learned a lot about writing and interacting with others

sid was also a goddamn disaster! i did a lot of fucked up shit. i believed loretto existed and allowed sylv (i think that was his name? he made loretto up, played a slick and a gpi) to shit on my character and their relationships. i wrote threads and drew art of noncon. i grew up in an environment where my peers were all older and all looked away while i did smut threads as a minor

i wrote sidona poorly. they were absolutely, more than anything, a proxy for myself and the bad decisions i made. i chased away a lot of really cool people and set a shitty example, especially for RPers younger than me. i wasn’t responsible early enough

sid is kind of a microcosm of growing up and finding yourself in the internet age, especially through roleplay. i would warn anyone reading to not get too personally involved in it. when you too strongly identify with characters other people have made, you separate and lose facets of yourself. you reduce yourself to other people’s perception of you. all your confusion and personal growth is splayed out in semipermanent posts and drawings for anyone to see. it’s humiliating and though i’m leaving sid’s blog up, i wouldnt recommend broadcasting your angst to thousands of strangers

if anyone checks in and still wants to talk to me, bell, my email and discord are  [email protected]. i want to think i’m a more considerate person now. i have memory issues and might not recognize you or the characters you played at first so be patient with me ! but i would love to talk to yall as myself and not sid

I’m gonna need to see what they’re selling before I’d even comment on something. I know that digital art isn’t easy and that it’s time consuming but at the same time, it’s the detail that goes into it that makes the price. Just doing a character isn’t worth $100. Doing a character with a decent background isn’t worth $100. Doing a character with A HIGH DETAIL background is definitely worth $100. It all depends on the amount of detail that goes into it. Well that and there length of time it takes.

hmmm no. you cannot just generalize pricing like that. and 100$ for a fully detailed background? you’re kidding me right? depending on speed and skill level of course, it can take minimum ~15 hours for that kind of piece. hell thats being generous for the type of quality people expect

100/15 = 6.66$ USD. that’s below minimum wage. it might come as a surprise but people need to eat, and pay bills. yknow, it costs money to live.

and that’s only the average internet freelancer. you get into professional concept work and character design and that can start in the thousands. 

and this isnt even accounting for equipment (traditional art supplies are expensive, for example) or revisions/back and forth between customer and artist. youre not buying the piece itself. you’re buying the time and skill put into it, and the work it takes to customize it specifically for you.

100$ is fucking chump change, and it’s a goddamn steal for the kind of quality the average artist on here can put out
