"The first Sylvia tattoo was the text underneath my breasts. I have been a mess over the last couple of years. Struggling with adulthood and what I want in life. Not for anybody else but me. I came across the works of Sylvia Plath around the time when I was at my absolute lowest low. The poem [On the Plethora of Dryads, written 1957] stuck with me from the very first time I read it and I could relate to every single word. Tattoos have always been a way for me to cope with some part or other in my life and I knew that “I ride earth’s burning carroussel” would be a lifelong truth for me. The placement of the ink was a choice I made because I want to be able to only show it to the people who mean the most to me and who I want to show it to. Fast forward a year and we arrive at the “I am, I am, I am” tattoo, which is basically a follow-up to the first quote. I’ve crawled out of my depression and have been working VERY hard on myself physically and mentally. I knew i’d want another tattoo to prove my strength to myself. While reading “The Bell Jar” I came across the ‘I am, I am, I am” and I just knew that was it. This was the reminder I’d need to put on my own body to remind me that no matter what; my heart will always prove to me that I am, I am, I am.”
So where all the white folks who talk about how rap dont talk about the issues?
