Day 3: Goodbyes
Aragorn must leave, but his heart wishes to stay. Arwen reassures him.
Pairing: Arwen x Aragorn
Warning: Slight angst?
Author’s Note: Today’s piece is a slightly angsty fic. But nothing too angsty! I swear.
Holding tight onto the reins of his horse, Aragorn glances behind. Inside his chest, his heart tightens, begging for him not to go, reminding him of where his home is.
A cold, gentle hand finds his. Aragorn knows the feeling of that soft skin against his all too well. He looks down to see Arwen’s beautiful face smiling back at him.
“I can hear the thoughts running through your mind,” she says quietly, only for him to hear. “What is troubling you so?”
Slowly falling from the sky, tiny white snowflakes land into her black hair. Arwen has always reminded him of the stars in the night, guiding him through his darkest times.
“I fear I will not be back in time for the winter celebration,” he whispers. “I do not wish to abandon you once more.”
Arwen only smiles, intertwining her fingers with his. “The crown weighs heavy on your head,” she tells him, a reminder of his status. “I shall never despise you for attending your duties. I will still be there when you return, and we shall celebrate winter together.”
She looks at him, her eyes glistening with all the love she has for him. Aragorn can feel it pouring from her mouth in the form of her tender words to reach and heal his heart. He knows she speaks the truth, yet, he hesitates.
Sensing his doubts, Arwen smiles at him once more before turning around and walking away. It is all it takes for Aragorn to make his decision. After all, she will never be too far from his heart.
