Avocado
Purple skin, silky flesh, our nutty taste. The moon could not be so buttery.Â
Under the dome of night, we cheer the chirps of frogs and crickets nurturing our souls.
We snooze to the din of the honeybee, her ultraviolet sensors detecting the nectar of our spindly blossoms.
From the hilltop, rain feeds the roots of our trees with spirit’s lifeblood gift.
When the sky clears, the sun’s rays emblazon our curves with numinous light as specific bird voices warble to our silence.

GALLERY 82: STILL LIFE
Scaling Antoine Vallon’s Mound of Butter, I knew I’d caught her eye. Black hair, little black dress. I continued toward Still Life with Bottle, Carafe, Bread, and Wine by Claude Monet. I observed a striking similarity, Vallon’s butter mound color scheme matched Claude’s hue of choice for his own oleo.
Beauty cornered herself in an Édouard Manet logjam, seemed sucked into his Melon, Pears, and Oysters. Must have felt my eyes upon her legs but as she pivoted I feigned doing the Monet math— Monet had beat Vallon to the punch re: stirring up such a wondrously dark and buttery yellow by at least ten years, maybe more.
Circumnavigating her rejoicing Oysters, I took in CĂ©zanne’s Still Life With Skull on loan from the White House. I pondered Pierre Bonnard’s Red Plums. Yes, Pierre’s comely plums, titled RED but man oh man these prunes rouges are correctly blue and exquisitely rendered, she said. Skirting close to inspect the skull, Beauty strutted away.Â
I caught up in Gallery 81. She was ogling a pair of Monet Rouen Cathedrals, but their facades proved too fast for still life.
