Hello everyone I play bass now
allan you're so valid
this coulda been sent years ago but either way I appreciate it thanks friendo
Quarantine is super boring. Decided I’d redownload tumblr for a bit for some memes and discourse and what not.
I’m not actually quarantined cause us mechanics are “essential workers” but I’m still bored.
I stopped using tumblr like a year ago and had around 300 followers. Redownloaded today and I’m over 2,000. Guess the funniest thing I could have ever done was disappear.
“You should join band! You can play trombone!”
“But I cant play the trombone?”
“Neither do most of the trombones. “

Y'all need to stop saying shit like “songs with the same bpm”
Beats per minute is a unit. The word you’re looking for is tempo.
If two songs have the same tempo, their bpm are equivalent.
You wouldn’t say two people of the same height have “the same inches.” You would say height. So stop saying two songs have “the same bpm” when you can just say tempo
I’m an assistant band director don’t argue with me
I have a music degree and taught for over a decade. You can say BPM or tempo it’s basically all the same. Don’t let the classical music snobs get you down
Oh no, I made a post voicing a pet peeve of mine and suddenly I’m a “classical music snob” even though I’ve been playing baroque flute for over a decade professionally…
Yeah I mean… Well there it is
Not only is it snobbish as hell, it’s also just wrong. A tempo is more than just the BPM in a certain song, it also describes the feeling and energy of the piece. If it was just tempo, then every piece would simply say “120, 180, 80, 144” instead we have marking such as “allegro, presto, largo, lively” which communicate so much more than just a number ever could.
Also in addition to the original post, it doesn’t matter that you’re an assistant band director. Your position does not make you immune to mistakes, and that abundantly obvious here.
@mrs-chief
Me, jumping to conclusions
Trumpet players are the footballer jocks of the band
5 ways to tell if your trombonist is too loud
They are
Haha, the trombones in my band are too loud, and they also won’t shut up sometimes. Same for you? @the-fault-in-our-slides?
I am the trombone in my band that is too loud and won’t shut up
Woodwinds really are amazing. How do they work? No one knows!!
I do music and shit btw
