Anathema

Apathy is anathema.

For me.

Stagnation is anathema. 

For me.

Silence is anathema.

For me.

I must act, react, change, challenge, resist, learn, trip, fall, cry, scream, laugh. 

I must.

If I do not, I will mummify.

I would look good enwrapped in cloth.

Enwrapped in comfort, naivete and singularity. 

I will not.

I like discomfort, risks, uncertainty,

serendipity if you will.

And even more so

Love.

The problem of only adding women to an androcentric paradigm of specialist knowledge is that it leaves the structures, values and strategies of an unequal power structure untouched and in place.

Women remain the embodied Other to the enlightened, invisible Norm man.

That being said, I am still in favour of (gender-based) affirmative action in order to come to terms with century-old systematic discrimination.

While in classical public engagement in technoscience, the publics are participating in order to change 'the worlds' we live in (which usually means to decide between different, pre-framed versions of these worlds), in Participatory design they are participating in order to 'change' the worlds we live in. The focus is not on choosing between some pre-framed option but on changing concrete processes, to change how science is done.
