As the semester is coming to an end so is my blog. I am glad to say that I have hope in the future for both Utah Valley and the rest of the world in terms of alternative energy. After much research I have found many sources and government agencies that are trying to get the switch to green vehicles and energy. I believe it is in everyone’s best interest to make this switch to clean energy and I believe it is happening. Slowly but surely, I know the switch to emissionless vehicles and energy will come soon. Many car companies such as Medicares and BMW are creating alternative fuels. We are already able to run cars on hydrogen fuel cells and electricity. BMW has also just created a synthesized version of diesel by using CO2 and O2! With awesome tech innovations as these I am happy that the future looks bright and I cant wait to see whats lies for us in this future. Farewell!

The 3 Easy Steps for a Better Tomorrow

As I continued researching and studying to find a cure to Utahs pollution I stumbled upon a excellent source. Written by Kim Christensen a, BYU English graduate wrote in early 2013 an article titled “Utah Valley’s dirty little secret”. I like this article because it gives the reader a basic understanding of the problem of air pollution in Utah Valley. In her first statement she states Salt Lake City, Provo, and Orem are “constantly being rated as the 25th city in the US” with the worst pollution. After doing some further researched, I found multiple sources ranking Utah Valley as the 8th short term polluted area in the United States. I feel that our rating is extremely high considering that Los Angeles county is 4th on the list but has over 10 million people. Meanwhile Salt Lake County has little over 1 million in its region. For having 1/10th of the population of LA and all of the massive counties that surround it comparatively, our region is putting out a massive amount of CO2 gasses! Kim Christensen provides a few sollution that all of us can do. First on the road. Christensen says carpooling to work or to a friends house is a good idea. Staying out of traffic can also reduce emission, anything to keep your vehicle from idling for more than 15 seconds. Second thing that Christensen explains is what we can do at home. Stop using aerosol cans she says, use alternatives. Use energy efficient appliances such as lighting, air conditioning, washing machines and other such home appliances. Lastly she states what we can do at work. One such idea Christensen shares that we should “opt for a work schedule” that goes around road congested times. Also, “we should take advantage of tax credits” by using green vehicles. In summation I think we should all try to take an active stance and start living cleaner and greener. If you are already driving an electric vehicle and carpooling then great! Keep it up do not give up, even if you feel small and insignificant, you can start a chain reaction of good clean habits. All it takes is one person to make a huge difference!

I think this is a reliable source because it is a local magazine/news website with good credible writers and all their articles list credible sources. This such article listed all of the sources used and after studying them I learned that those sources were credible as well.

Are we really living dangerously?

As I was strolling through the streets of Orem I had a strangest feeling. I looked down at my T-shirt and casual shoes and realized that it is winter! How could it be fifty degrees in the middle of winter!?  The good folks over at Years of Living Dangerously have stated that scientists across the globe agree that last year was the hottest year on record. Though this blogger has no sources to back up this claim I did some research and discovered that 2014 was a hot year but not unusual. "The year 1934 was a very hot year in the United States, ranking fourth behind 2012, 2006, and 1998. However, global warming takes into account temperatures over the entire planet." Meaning that the temperature in 1934 was most likely not due to global warming. Noticeably, scientist are seeing world wide heating. This takes account for the oceans, the sky, your backyard, everywhere. My question to you is: Are we just thrill seeking-waiting and living on the edge until the brink of a world wide extinction?
