Crimson Peak might be my new favorite movie.

Hello! It’s been a while, but I have returned momentarily to gush over the movie I saw today--Crimson Peak, directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska. Everyone who loves a good ol’ Gothic should see it. I wrote a review, since I haven’t written journalistically in a while and wanted to exercise a rusty hand (and also because squeals had to be unleashed.)

Frozen is purportedly set in the 1830’s-40’s, but I’ve been obsessed with finding a style that could marry her coronation gown with her ice gown more seamlessly; the open robes you see during the Regency era, including those being worn by Scandinavian royalty at the time, seemed a particularly apt analog for her… weird underarm-cape. Thing. You also see her mom wearing something very similar for something like ten years, so it’s not a huge stretch to think it could be a popular look in Arendelle. THAT’S MY EXCUSE.

I initially designed this for her coronation, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to explore how that same silhouette might work with her ice gown as well. Someday, theoretically, I would love to do a more literally iced-up version of her gown, but I figured the alternate colour way would be a nice middle ground to strike.

I tend to mentally flog myself whenever I don't meet my own incredibly high expectations. Exhibit A: my french oral exam today. Everything was great until it wasn't.

I called my boyfriend frantically, feeling miserable and in need of comfort. He didn't answer, but soon skyped me, having stepped out of a senior thesis defense symposium.

I'm so grateful that even from 3,000 miles away, even though we're 5 hours apart, even when we're both extremely busy with our respective lives, he remains so dedicated to me. And my emotions are particularly wild and needy, so...his work isn't easy haha.

Anyway, shoutout to best boyfriend ever <3
