Waiting for a callback...
…and getting cast instead!!
I didn’t audition for any role in particular, and I was waiting to hear if I’d gotten a callback, but what I got was a call from the director to tell me I’d been cast as Nina, in the play “Nina”.
Yes.
It’s the lead. And no, it’s not in school. And yes, I’m freaking out in the best possible way.
She’s a very dark, very troubled character who uses sex and drugs to escape from her reality, and I can’t wait to get my hands on that full script!!
I know you know this already, but I'm so happy for you and proud of you. You'll be absolutely brilliant, and the play is lucky to have you in its cast.
I can't wait to be there every night cheering for you.

Rach: [a small giggle] Not that, silly.
Quinn: [smiling] I love you. [pause, then chuckling] Can I go get ready now, darling? If not, we'll end up eating pizza for dinner.
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: [smiles] Say it again, please?
Quinn: [a pause, then teasing] I'll see you soon.
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: Okay. I'll leave you to it. [A beat] I love you.
Quinn: [smiling] I love you, too. I'll see you soon.
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: No. You look beautiful in yellow, baby. [Smiling] And I don't need luck, remember?
Quinn: No you don't. [pause] Well, if you're sure I don't need to change... I need to get ready or we'll miss our reservation.
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: Wearing yellow. [shrugs] It was the color of the devil way back when. The actor that played the devil wore yellow. Superstitions. [A beat] Don't joke with the Scottish play, though.
Quinn: [another pause and then quiet] Oh. [another pause] Should I change?
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: That's bad luck. But I don't believe in superstitions. [Shakes her head] No, no. Sorry for distracting you. I just wanted to hear your voice. See you in a bit, baby.
Quinn: [hesitation, then curious] What's bad luck?
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: It's a gift. What color is your dress?
Quinn: Yellow. [shuffling in the background] Did you need something, Rach? I just-- [more shuffling] It's going to be hard to be ready on time and stay on the phone.
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: Oh, new shoes? Very interesting. Are they going to be super high heels to make me look short? [sound of fabric rustling as she straightens her dress on her bed]
Quinn: Nowhere near as high as your heels. I don't know how you walk in them.
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: [lets out a breath, almost as if all the tension was leaving her body at the same time] Hi, baby. Don't worry, I'm not ready just yet, either. [A pause, and then with a small smile on her lips] Sorry for interrupting your thoroughly unnecessary beauty routine.
Quinn: [audible eye roll but smiling] There's nothing unnecessary about a new pair of shoes. I think I might have left the ones I originally intended on wearing at my mom's. [a door opening and closing and a sigh] But I'm back at the dorm now, so it shouldn't be... too long.
Phone Call || Faberry
Rach: [Calls her]
Quinn: [a little breathless] Rachel? Hi. [sound of wind as she's obviously moving quickly] S-Sorry. I'm running a bit behind to get ready.
Text Message || Quinntana
San: Oh yeah, I totally got that.
San: But... I mean, it's Rachel. She won't step out. So let the girl flirt or whatever. Makes it even more hilarious that nothing's going to happen.
Quinn: And what am I supposed to do when Rachel flirts back?
Text Message || Quinntana
San: Alcoholics Anonymous.
San: Brandy.
San: ...Look, I'm off my game, I'm aware of this.
Quinn: Oh.
Quinn: I'm glad Rachel has theatre friends. I just... it's obvious she doesn't want to just be friends with Rachel.
