{ AFTER ALL }

I’d lost you when we were young so many years ago

I’d sit at sea and sing your name until the sun was low

Then one day I thought I’d heard a voice I used to know:

“I’m safe and sound way over here It’s time you let me go.”

With tears like rain that washed my face I did as I was told

The summers went and winters passed I found new hands to hold

But quiet nights when stars were bright I’d feel the warm winds blow

I‘d sing the song I hadn’t sung since I was six years old:

“I don’t care if I’ve lost you in a million seas before

Across the isles and crashing waves I always hear your call

I promise you I’ll wait for you to return back to shore

Where we can build a home for us be happy after all.”

{ PURPLE LIGHT }

Do you remember that early December we danced along the street?

The moon was as low as the clouds could go The purple light guided our feet

You said you missed singing and you started humming I sang along with you

The rain started falling you turned to me, saying let’s see what the night can do

{ WALLFLOWER }

She sheds her flowers she sheds her leaves So she can be invisible She believes

Don’t have to worry about any colours No need to compete with the others

She sits alone in coffeeshops and writes her diary on table tops

Sometimes a gentleman would catch her eye But she’d look away a little shy

Still she wishes someone will know Her stories, her longing from so long ago

Hoping to join in to strangers’ chats Sharing their secrets and quiet regrets

{ SPRING }

Sunlight kisses the softest bud Beauty blooms from the warmest mud

Butterflies play their courting games Like charming men with fleeting dames

Pretty flowers beam tall and bright Their petals dance in golden light

Morning passes in gentle glow As Spring puts up its greatest show

{ NEXT CHAPTER }

Waking up to morning smells A singing clock with ringing bells

Telling time another year A brand new start a changing gear

To bygones past that never last Clearing dust a fine forecast

We rise afresh to start anew The next chapter a better you

{ A SONG OF SILENCE }

Once in awhile she’d slip away, to a place where her thoughts come out to play.

A secret spot where only she knows, where skies are blue and the east wind blows.

She’d hear a peaceful melody, this song of silence, a sweet harmony.

She’d watch as birds fly free and roam, as they guide the setting sun back home.

{ THE SEA } 

The quietest time of every day Was watching the tide retreat away  Knowing so well it’d come again Ever so softly like a gentle rain 

The touch of sand ‘neath naked feet The tug of strings in one heartbeat She saw the sailors come and go Where will they dock? She’ll never know 

Her secrets run in waters deep They disappear when she’s asleep But as the sun rises in dawn The darkness lifts and her dreams’re gone 

She finds herself drawn to the sea A place where she feels lost and free A wider canvas she’ll never find A playground for her boundless mind

{ LOST STARS }

Where do stars go in the morning light? They fall to the sea like diamonds so bright

They shimmer in splendour they rock-a-bye Slowly meander like a lullaby

But softly they pine for their piece of sky A home where the clouds are the beds they lie

They wait for their turn as the sun shines bright To finally return in the pale moonlight

{ TOMORROW }

He walks with a balloon tight in his hand Across the fields of women and men

They've stolen glances and fired words He'd lost his voice to the passing birds

But still he held on to the string And then he stumbled upon a spring

Where dreams, like love were colourblind Not bound by choice of any kind

They sang in a voice he always knew "You will find the answer in you."

They pointed ahead into Tomorrow A place where he can finally let go

{ PURSUIT }

The further she ran the smaller she felt Time was squeezing her like a belt

The sun he whispered you'll never outrun I'll return as the moon when the day is done

But forward she pressed without her rest In her wake she left the most glorious mess

For a second she turned to catch a glimpse But all she saw were her left-behind dreams

{ ANGEL } 

How does an angel with no wings learn to fly 

whose hands are full but is still able to hold onto her children and teach them lessons to get by 

I've never doubted her patience and guidance 

even when things begin to falter she'd pick herself up and push on with life with her head held high 

Now that I'm older and the world moves faster 

I'd hold her hands and take her to places she'd dreamed of when she was younger without any reasons why 

Thank you for loving and accepting me 

for who I am and where I'll go no matter where in the world I'll still be able to know you're right under the same sky 

Thank you for teaching me kindness and compassion 

two of the most important things for without which we'll never know to love another much like what we have for you and I

{ ANNIVERSARY } 

Magic happens when you least expect  Love doesn't give you the time to react 

It could be as fleeting as a passing cloud Or catching your smile in a maddening crowd 

Sometimes I wonder what lies ahead The days we'll have and the promises we made

But the best of moments take you by surprise As we venture off into another year of our lives

{ AN IRISH ODE }

The sky bled into hues of blue As sun rays bounced off morning dew You stood by me as Winter fell And shielded me from Summer's swell

We watched as Lords and Ladies danced With Gaelic tunes the horses pranced We stood atop on Castle Hill And said a prayer as time stood still

As days turned into years that'd passed As crashing waves and cold winds hushed My soul it ached for a secret song To take me where my heart belong

The fields of green still call my name In dreams they sounded all the same We bade our salty tears goodbye Beneath the wildest ocean sky

{ HOME }

They heard my silly first words, and laughed at my first smile. They fret about my first steps, which took a little while.

They captured my first dancing, and showed to all their friends. They taught me how to cycle, with gentle, steady hands.

They mended my first heartbreak, with words and company. I wasn’t always present, but I knew they were there for me.

No matter I am now, no matter where I’ll roam, the leaves may brown and wither, but they’ll always be my home.

{ THE CHRISTMAS STARS }

The winds of late December, gave me a calm reminder; to send my prayers up high, into stars that dot the night sky. I hope they reach you somehow, in far lands where you roam now. I hope you see them each night; they'll disappear by daylight. I'm learning to build bridges, to share in your adventures. Recall forgotten wishes, unwrap our secret kisses. I know you're out there somewhere - the silent nights that I bear, to tide across the hours, to see you home on Christmas.

{ REGRET } 

Life takes us on journeys, it'll never tell us where. It'll make us dance in circles, we won't know till we're there. 

We'll meet the strangest people, who'll sing the oddest songs. We'll learn which friendly faces, become the biggest wrongs. 

We'll paint in brightest palettes, the colours of our youths; they'll darken as they grow up, they'll see the deepest truths. 

Of all the times that'd gone by, as summer turns to fall, we hope we'll never regret our greatest fault of all.

{ LOVE GROWS }

Love grows from hope, it grows from chance. It grows from a song, and a little dance.

Love grows from laughter, the little seeds; a budding smile is the water it needs.

Love grows through rain, it grows through drought. It springs from moments that fill you with doubt.

Love takes its time, but it can grow strong. Love grows in a place that has been there all along.
