One of the best things about Stephenie Meyer is that, when she’s enjoying writing, she writes really fast and she leaves a lot of loose threads in case she wants to do something with that later (there are so many interviews where someone asks her about a character and she says she hasn’t decided yet because she may want to write it into a sequel or a prequel at some point.) It’s a bit frustrating but at least she doesn’t write herself into a corner.
But it’s a downfall because people are impatient and mean, and when she tries to compensate by planning/outlining, writing becomes a chore and she gets bored. And so we’re all left with these stories with brilliant ideas and lots of potential and plenty of material to set up future stories and different perspectives and absolutely nothing looming in the horizon except maybe Leah’s or Renesmee’s story in about ten years or so if she feels like it.
Like, I totally get it; if I didn’t have to create things for money and could just do things for fun, I would have dropped any plans I had for twilight too after the things some people said/say/do. Or I would write it for myself and my family and friends and people would only get to see it if it’s published posthumously.
But anyway, she’s so brilliant at setting things up for future stories when she’s not over planning, and it would be great if she could go back to just enjoying writing and maybe come back and tie up some of those loose threads. There’s so much potential in these books, she could do practically anything she wanted because Bella’s first person narrative is limited to what Bella cares about or comes across. She could continue with that if she wanted, and add some depth to it. Or she could write any - or all - of her other characters. And they’re unique enough and have different enough interests and values that it… ughhhhh it could be SO GOOD.
