The Mads are back! Mystery Science Theater 3000 stars Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu are taking movie riffing back onstage in their new live show.
Big announcement: Our brand new website is now live! IT'S ALIVE, I TELL YOU! It features our tour schedule, a blog you can comment on, an explanation of how to get us in your city, and oh so much more. Spread the word!
FRANK 2012
I work in Manhattan at a restaurant where many famous Hollywood and Broadway folk go. I’ve talked to Tom Hanks. I’ve talked to Al Pacino. I’ve talked to Neil Simon. They were all cool but the only time I wasn’t able to form a thought or sentence proper was when I met TV’s Frank on the way home from work in Time Square. He was gracious and patient as could be, waiting for me to get words out. It was rough, but also one of the greatest moments of my life.
Excited big announcement yodel: This is it, guys! We made it into 2016's lineup at SF SKETCHFEST! Come see us January 15th at 7:30pm in the Brava Theater in San Francisco! Tickets already on sale.
We Want You, We Want You So Bad
CALL TO ACTION: we need your help! Our upcoming shows in Cleveland this weekend (http://www.placestogoincleveland.com/…/927660-The-Mads-Are…/) and St. Louis on Dec 12 (http://www.metrotix.com/events/detail/the-mads) work a little differently than ones we've done in the past. Instead of getting our paycheck from the venues, we've taken a risk and had them personally rented out of pocket in the hopes that ticket sales alone are enough to make a profit (after our hotel, airfare, etc. have been paid for). If this method works, we may be able to play more rental venues in the future, which blows the possibilities for our tour wide open. Please make sure our next two shows are packed so that next time, we can bring our shows to you!
Trace just interviewed on KMOX's Overnight America Podcast and answered questions about the new Mads tour, meeting delightful fans, our comedy writing workshop, and more!
Hey folks! It's a new week of speed drawing and this week is pretty big. First off, if you haven't heard Joel Hodgson, creator of MST3K, is trying to reboot the show on Kickstarter. This is great news for all MST-ies alike. But along with that, his Cinematic Titanic compadres, Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff are traveling around the country as The Mads doing live riffing shows. They are coming to Cleveland (my hometown) this weekend for two shows. I'll be there at the Friday show, but you should really make it to both if you can. I designed the poster for the event and it will be available for sale both nights, signed by all three of us! And this week's speed drawing is of said poster. This one was pretty special to me. At Dragoncon, Trace and I both picked up a compendium of Jack Davis artwork that is amazing. We've both been fans of Jack Davis forever and we were able to meet his sons and family while at the con. The poster is an homage to Mr. Davis and I think I got the style down pretty well. I plan to do more of these types of caricature/cartoons which fits my style anyway. So be on the lookout for that as the weeks continue. In any event, please try to make it out to one of the live events, especially the one this weekend in Cleveland. As I mentioned this poster will be available there and variations of the poster should be available at other shows in the coming months. Thanks so much for your support and keep spreading the word about my Patreon!Len
The incredibly talented artist Len Peralta has drawn us a beautiful poster, and here’s the speed draw video that shows how he did it. A fascinating watch - thanks a bunch, Len!
Frank and Trace will be at the Ivory Theatre in St. Louis, MO on December 12th, playing two shows (7pm and 10pm) and teaching their riff writing workshop in the afternoon!
Frank, Trace, their promoter Zoe Plait, and Denver Alamo Drafthouse creative director Steve Bessette after their live riffing show last night.
It was magical.
A live movie riffing from MST3K stars Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff
Hey Cleveland MST3K fans: Trace and Frank will be at the Negative Space Gallery this Friday and Saturday, riffing live and teaching a comedy writing workshop!
A special inside glimpse at the MST3K writers' room with our very own TV's Frank, 1991.
Trace works on painting the walls of the set of a certain Minnesotan puppet show, 1989.
