(Mild)!!!SPOILERS FOR THE BACKROOMS MOVIE!!!

Just watched the backrooms and I have sooooo many thoughts!

But,I’ll start with what I appreciate about this movie,especially compared to many current release trends:

1.I like how concise it is,it isn’t dragged out,it respects your time and no scene is wasted!It gives you all the information you need without a lot of explanation.

2.It’s well paced.It properly takes time to set up its characters,theme and space.There is a moment of rest before and in between action scenes that gives the movie room to breathe and maintain tension.The movie is almost two hours and it doesn’t feel like a two hour movie.

3.The atmosphere is immaculate,jumpscares are few and far in between and the tension is built through the environment as the very concept of it makes it a strong environmental story telling tool.Without focusing on the backrooms itself but rather how the people in it are reflected.

4.It respects the viewer,the backrooms movie isn’t a cash grab,it isn’t needlessly long or easy to watch or a second screen movie to your phone.It knows you paid to see it,you took the time to see it and it rewards you by respecting your time and intelligence.It doesn’t hold your hand,it doesn’t jingle keys to keep your attention on it.It actually makes you think.

5.As Ironic as it is that the movie named ‘The Backrooms’ to not really be about the backrooms,it’s actually the best decision for it.The backrooms are a tool,not a setting and as much as some internet backroom fans wanted deeper lore exploration,that would not make for a great movie and the movie shouldn’t conform to the rules you think it should based on prior lore.Because you already have that kind of content and again it wouldn’t make a good movie.Instead it’s original and thoughtful something very much lacking right now.

Conclusions:Watch it!Even if you’re not a fan of horror or psychological thrillers it’s an important movie for many creatives to see.Not just to get inspired but remind many that people were and still are hungry for good thoughtful and deep art that reflects true passion.

reading reviews and tags of backrooms (2026) makes me so fucking angry omfg. did the message go over everyone’s head????? cycles of abuse????? the immorality of the psychiatric and medical systems???? the horrors of being a woman in patriarchal society???? the horrors of being an abuse victim trying to navigate the world?????? the consequences of trying to ‘fix people’, especially men as a woman, and especially abusers as a survivor????? how trying to fix the abusive system you live under using the tools of that same system doesn’t work??????? how destructive enabling abusive behaviour, even as part of healing to ‘fix’ an abuser, can be????? is anyone listening or do you only care about the random white man!???!?!!!?????

Watched the Backrooms movie. Loved it. Thought it was a great exploration of mental illness and the inability to move past bad memories. Hopped on Tumblr. Everyone’s complaining about how the black lead is too angry and mean and scary, and that he shouldn’t have the character flaws that he has, and also they’re all posting thirst traps of the little white boy who was there for 10 minutes before being unceremoniously pulled into a dark room and ripped apart offscreen. I see how it is.

My opinion on The Backrooms movie... SPOILERS!!

Finished watching the Backrooms movie in theaters and I have walked out as a changed man. Lots of references and phycological horror. Personal 10/10. I will be explaining everything I noticed, and why I'm upset with the backlash.

I personally loved it, but I see people complaining about how it isn't "accurate". It wasn't based off the Wiki or the Wikidot, so many entities and levels like the Smilers wouldn't be there. It's based off of Kane Pixel's YouTube series, as he was the one directing the movie. I also saw people being upset Bacteria wasnt there, and was replaced by a "corny" entity.

Still Life Clark was meant to be the personification of Clarks worst traits, and how he's not able to let go of his past. In the end, it was what killed him. It then goes after Mary, who ends up escaping from Still Life Clark, symbolizing she learned she needed to let go of her past trauma to move on in life.

As for the ending where it shows a Still Life Mary in the warped interview room, that could mean that even if we move on in our lives, some part of us is still living in that moment. We don't fully know if she escaped the Backrooms, but I like to think she did.

The movie wasn't supposed to be a loud and scary "everyone is being chased all the time" kind of horror. It was meant to be something that unsettled you and made you uncomfortable while also telling a story. People complaining that Still Life Clark didn't look like a generic scary monster missed the point of the movie entirely.

Still Life Clark is a being created from a misremembered moment in time, not something made just to chase and kill people like how some people wanted it.

EDIT: I'm seeing lots of discourse about the "racist connotations" of the movie. The movie is NOT racist. I see people saying because the actor that played the entity was white, it makes it blackface. That's not true. Blackface is meant to be harmful towards African culture by making fun of or belittling it. The actor was chosen for his bodily proportions resembling uncanny valley so they could use less cgi. "Oh but every other character is white, and he's portrayed as angry and abusive!" He has mental issues. If he were any other race, the story would be the same. Does it matter what race he is for him to have a developed and complex character?
