He’s trying, and she can see that. He was trying to welcome her, opened armed, and she was too shaken to even take the first step forward. She didn’t deserve his kindness, she hadn’t done anything to earn it. Then he asks her for a name, and she lowers her head.
Nothing, not even a flashy one like her genetic doner. She wasn’t Supergirl. She wasn’t Kara Zor-El, she wasn’t anything to anybody. She had a serial number, a branding. Proof she wasn’t a real person. Just a lab experiment.
“…I don’t have one.”
of course maxwell lord hadn’t named her. even animals have names but she wasn’t granted that courtesy from a man devoid of heart. as she looks at him with sad, sullen eyes the perfect name strikes him. she already bares the crest of his family and even if she doesn’t know it yet, she has a family in him.

“Have you.. You named my sister? Thank you. For.. taking care of her.” He ducks his head, unable to meet the eyes of the other (even though he is several inches taller than him). His hands are behind his back, fidgeting. “We are both in your debt.”
❛any time. and don’t worry about it, it’s my pleasure.❜ he’s NERVOUS ( scared maybe ? ) but it’s understandable given the situation thrust upon him. a hand reaches to place on the other’s shoulder in an act of camaraderie. he’s not as alone as he thinks he is. ❛what’s your name, son?❜
She wanted to apologize for her own existence. That she was a violation of somebody else’s genetic makeup, beyond her control. That the only pair of clothes she currently had bore HIS family crest. That being an experiment gave her no right to wear it.
But he gives her that smile, that look that says ‘everything will be alright,’ and suddenly she can’t say anything in response. Only clutch herself tighter.
“I-” So much she wanted to say, yet no way she could find the words to say it. Hell she didn’t even have a proper name, just a serial number. A designation. Not like Ma’a’kal, she wasn’t even considered worth enough to be given a proper name. “-I shouldn’t… be here. I’m sorry.”
for a symbol of HOPE he sure is doing a bad job of bringing it to her. she’s been used, treated like a machine more than a person and it hurts him to see. and that’s what kills the most, knowing she’s in pain and he can’t do a thing to stop it. it seems he’s not so super now.
❛you don’t have to leave. you have every right to be here --❜ it strikes him then that he doesn’t know her name. that’s the first step to taking back her life from max and he wants to help even if he feels he has no right. he should have stopped this sooner but he won’t let her suffer anymore.

It was him, the man himself. One of the people her creator hated with the most vile, and the most powerful being on the entire planet. Technically, they shared blood that she had no right to, so he had placed her in HIS care. She studied his face, expecting a look of cold disgust or contempt she wouldn’t blame him, but he held no such gaze. His eyes were sympathetic, even warm or apologetic. Not at all what she had expected.
The nameless one clutched her arms, vainly trying to hide the symbol displayed across her chest. His symbol. She had no right to be wearing it, she wasn’t even real. “I- I’m sorry…”
A DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS, the look she gives him is nothing more than heartbreaking, to feel like you don’t belong and to be ALONE are feelings the man of steel knows well enough ( the perils of boyhood had long since been overcome ). she’s vulnerable before him, scared and guilty but the look he offers in response is warm. blue gaze fixing on her, he flashes a sympathetic half smile.
she looks like kara he’s noticed. it’s the eyes, they bare a kindness few people will ever come to know. the ‘s’ suits her, she is more much than she knows. ❛what for?❜
