Project 5 : Black and Blue . Artist statement: Filmed this outside at one in the morning while it was 15 degrees outside. I️ wanted to show fragility and vulnerability, so I️ painted myself black, blue, and purple- the color of bruises. And I used rubber bands to squeeze legs and increase the uncomfortably.

“Chelsey Pickthorn is an acclaimed hair painter and shaper based out of her namesake salon, Pickthorn in Brooklyn.  New York Mag named Chelsey “NY’s Best Colourist” and she is renowned for her unique clientele ranging from bands to the cities biggest runway models. Her salon has become a beacon in Bushwick, Brooklyn – supporting the neighborhood and attracting young, emerging talent. This August, Chelsey was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, a rare and aggressive form that was luckily caught early.  She has a great team of doctors working on her side for 16 weeks of chemotherapy, double mastectomy and reconstruction. We are looking towards our community to raise money to cover the out of coverage costs, treatments and recovery planning. Our growing music community have been donating all proceeds from their shows to the cause, watch our @WECOLORLIVE events to find out when, where and how you can attend! Our neighborhood screen printing shop, SILKYS has printed hundreds of our ‘Standing By Chelsey’ graphics for you to purchase, celebrate women fighting breast cancer and support Chelsey. Everything helps, so we created a store where you can purchase any of these items to support, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
