For those of us who love the beautiful friendship between Demelza and Francis from the books and are disappointed that the toast scene from the christening was not included in Episode 4, I am posting this great drawing from @kazimir29

So Ross took out the loan ‘a year ago’, which was also the night that Demelza tended them at Trenwith, and Julia died shortly afterwards.
And his arrest took place very soon after that, a matter of days.
We don’t know how long he was in Truro jail, but when he’s released, it’s then five days until the trial in Bodmin. Even though Francis and Elizabeth talk about how Ross won’t talk to them ‘since Julia’, and they - and Demelza - are clearly fully recovered from the putrid throat.
And then at least a few weeks pass between the trial and episode three.
Poldark, your timelines are absolutely f*cked up and make no sense. This is even worse than series one.
Ridiculous unnecessary meddling on the part of Debbie Horsfield re. the timeline. And does no one read these scripts to check for problems like these? It was always going to have to be a year between the loan being taken out and the interest becoming due and DH’s ridiculously compressed timeline for, well, everything else was never going to work with that, but apparently no one at Mammoth cares about such things.
And don’t anyone mention the constant changing exterior of The Red Lion. WTF? Basic continuity, people.
Looks like it was a good growing season for felines…
In season one it was Francis who suffered for the determination to make Elizabeth a sympathetic character.
This season, it seems to be Ross.
Don’t get me wrong, Ross messes up plenty, and he’s absolutely an idiot. He’s flawed and he withdraws from Demelza when she least deserves it. But though a fair bit of the conversation at Trenwith was in the book, some of it is entirely down to that drive to make Elizabeth less culpable, more sympathetic, and it’s not fair to any of the characters. (least of all my precious darling queen Demelza). And it just pisses me off.
It drives me insane because Elizabeth is not a very kind character in the book. She is cold and spoiled. She has very little to offer beyond her looks. She sets her self-worth on how others precieve her which is why she cannot leave Ross to be happy with Demelza. That means he no longer holds her in his highest esteem and that is just not done, especially when her rival is nothing more than a kitchen maid.
I would like to kiss you both for writing this and saving me having to. The sacrifice of Ross’ characterisation this season is making me beyond furious and disappointed. What horrible, horrible writing on the part of Debbie Horsfield. She has done it not only to continue her hobby horse whitewashing of Elizabeth, but also for reasons I cannot understand at all (WHY make Ross an idiot who wants to stick his head in the sand about the trial, rather than the grown-up of the books whose decision it is to go to his lawyer himself to make a will and protect Demelza? What is the sense or point of it?) So many huge disappointments already so far this season, I have lost count.
