It was the nights like this Atticus truly loved; just relaxing in a common room with a friend by his side, talking throughout the night. These nights most frequently occurred with Mira, and usually ended with the two debating quidditch. Tonight was no different as Mira began to, in quite a slurred manner, discuss how the Gryffindor Quidditch team still had a chance of earning the cup while laying across Atticusâ lap. Her face slightly obscured by the dim dungeon lighting.
Atticus laughed as Mira, once again, cursed the current Gryffindor captain. âIâm sure you will be an excellent captain, Miraâ, Atticus said somewhat mockingly but mostly truthfully, âYou have a lot of talent.â A smirk flashed across Atticusâ face, âUnlike Gryffindor, Slytherin is doing excellently this season.â Atticus said in a once again mocking tone.
While Gryffindorâs tower was always vivacious and loud, full of boisterous lions that never knew when to shut up (Mira herself included sometimes), Slytherinâs was always quieter in comparison. She also liked to watch the weird green glow coming from the glass walls that looked into the lake, eerie and soothing in their own right. Seeping the warmth from Atticus she closed her eyes and yawned again. âI know weâre not gonna win this year.â Exhausted like that and sprawled across her friendâs lap was probably the most vulnerable she was. She trusted Atticus, he was one of the very few she would ever be so open to and trust he wouldnât turn it against her.Â
â Of course Iâmâa be an excellent captain-- I was born to lead.â She slurs in return, rubbing her nose and running one hand up to undo the braid on her head. She sneers at his comment on Gryffindor and Slytherin but finally looks up, smiling back. Atticusâ smile was always contagious, even slowly drifting into a state of half-sleep. â âm gonna break your knee again next game and then you come ân tell me--â Another yawn. â-- that Slytherinâs doing better, you dork.â Mira reaches up to simply press her hand against Atticusâ face and squish his cheek. âCanât wait for Griffin to be gone.â Itâs almost whispered, one of those heartfelt confessions that wasnât a secret to anyone who knew Mira moderately but still something that stung to admit and only semi-conscious sheâd ever do so outloud.Â
