@therealryanwest: I was never a believer in love at first sight until today. Welcome to the world, Addison West. (Jan 1st, 2015)
@therealryanwest: I don't know what she's thinking so hard about but she looks beautiful doing it. #thisiswhatiwakeupto #butwithoutthemakeup #stillbeautiful
AJ: Only because you like to forget who is the oldest, with the way you talk to me.
AJ: Are you really asking that. It's late, I'm alone, why else would I be looking for you to come home?
Ryan: theres that motherly side of you coming out again.
Ryan: very poetic. ill be home soon, okay? just turn on the tv and try to sleep.
AJ: you're being a huge baby. I'm a safe driver. I've been driving since before you even turned 11.
Ryan: alright just throw the age in there.
Ryan: just wait it out, why so you need to get me now?
AJ: Whoa, why the hell am I not allowed to drive?
Ryan: because AJ, god forbid something happens to you. i'd rather be safe than sorry.
AJ: Yeah because waiting is super logical? It's not that bad over here. You can meet me halfway or something if you're so concerned.
Ryan: biking in the rain is no fun and i dont think youre supposed to be driving. especially in this weather. thats my son in there.
AJ: Why didn't you just call me? I can pick you up, it's not a problem.
Ryan: uh no. i dont know how bad it is over there but is horrible here. even my coworkers with cars cant leave. ill wait the storm out.
AJ: dude, where are you?
Ryan: sorry. forgot to text you. stayed late and work and got stuck with this rain. not a good day to take a bike to work
@AJcentAngel: I don’t even dress like a decent human being anymore.
@therealryanwest: After five tries I finally set this damn crib up. Credit to my girl for the wall decal.Â
Two weeks too late.
For the past two weeks the apartment has been filled with the sounds of the ticking from the wall clock, water dripping down the faucet from the bathroom sink, and the sizzling of bacon that AJ cooks in the morning. Not many words have been exchanged between the two since that night. As much has Ryan has longed to hear those words, he knows better than to push things and receive in outcome he doesn't want, like cutting off communication and one of them ending up pregnant.Â
As he struggles to find his way out of the bed sheets, he jumps into the shower as AJ's starting breakfast. A man's best thinking is always done in the shower. In a typical AJ scenario, she wouldn't want anything to be said, at least that's what Ryan's thinking. Ryan should just forget what happened and move on, at least that's what he's thinking. There are boundaries that cannot be crossed, at least that's what he thought. The problem with Ryan's thinking is that it's not always spot on, and this isn't a typical AJ scenario. The tables have completely turned, there are new rules in this game and the players are completely different people now. Should Ryan just stick to the plan or go on a limb?Â
As the water get's colder, Ryan exists the shower.Â
After he's dried off and dressed for school, he makes his way over to the kitchen. "Mornin'" he whispered, his voice still a little raspy from waking up. He made his way over to AJ and gently placed his hand not he arch of her back then slowly leaned down to kiss the corner of her forehead, as part of the daily routine. They both sat in their usual places, with the tension in the room feeling hotter than the over-cooked eggs. The same sounds filled the apartment, the ticking, the dripping, and the clanking.Â
"Ryan—"
Neither of the two had said a word during the entire meal and Ryan was surprised that AJ was the one to break the silence.Â
"Don't forget the electricity's due tomorrow."
Of course. Typical AJ in a typical AJ scenario. Ryan nodded in acknowledgment of her comment and stood up to grab his backpack. No goodbyes were exchanged as he opened up the front door. There's nothing typical about this situation. Typical AJ and Ryan would still be at Bella Nova, seeing each other when it was convenient. Now they're not only doing thing for each other, but for the little boy they're about to introduce to the world. This is completely new territory for the both of the, their typical boundaries do not exist in this world.
"AJ." he called out.
AJ peeked her head up and raise an eyebrow, waiting for him to finish.
"I love you, by the way."Â
Suddenly, a typical morning turned into a complete game changer for the both of them.
Hey, whoa. Okay, stop. Let’s… clearly you’re not going to get through this without some… positive affirmations. You’re… Fuck, Ryan. Why do you always make me… ugh. Okay.
First of all, you didn’t decide to get me pregnant. This was an accident. We did not plan this. I didn’t plan to have sex with you more than once. We didn’t… decide this, alright? It was…. not on the… agenda? It wasn’t. So don’t make it sound all… purposeful. This was not intended, him. He wasn’t intended.
Secondly, you going against their wishes is… is it not the best thing that’s ever happened to you? Look at how far you’ve come. You’re going to be a Junior, and you have a very stable yet flexible job. You are a fucking asset to that place, and they know it. School is the best thing for you; for anyone. You’re smart and you’d only be wasting your life, if you weren’t there.
And last, please fucking grow a pair. Like, doing this is really annoying and whenever you get all weird and obsessive over the things that stress you out, he gets all kicky and he moves too much. So if you wanna, like, chill out. Take a breath before going to that door, feel free.
"You're right. You totally right. I'm so glad your the smart one." Ryan reaches in his pocket to pull out a small key and unlocks the door.
"For the record, even though this whole thing wasn't planned, it's still one of the best things that has happened to me."Â
Ryan takes a step into the house to find it completely empty. He turns around to see AJ just as confused as he is.Â
A high pitched scream that practically pierces the heaves comes from the other side of the room. "ALEX!" The sixteen year old girl runs up to Ryan and practically knocks him over. After she let's go of her embrace she notices the pregnant woman standing over by the door.Â
"Wow. Did yo—no. There's no wa– wow. Mom and dad are going to be so shocked. Hi, I'm Rebekah. " she extends her arm out to AJ.
I thought the baby was inside of me, why are you being a child? How bad can they be?
I haven't seen my parents since I went off to school last year. I'm showing up at their door step with a girl they've never met to tell them that instead of going against their wishes and going to school anyway, I decided to get someone pregnant instead. Besides, you told me how your dad reacted and it doesn't really make me excited for mine.
I'm not gonna promise they're going to be thrilled. I'm not going to promise they're going to be nice either. Are you sure you want to? They don't have to know, we can just leave.
I love y— to. I mean, wow. I’d love to. I’m— I didn’t mean that. I mean I’d love to.
Thank you.
Ryan… listen to me. Your father is an idiot. Anyone with a brain knows people go to school for a reason. You’re not wasting your time with it, and I know you know that. Even if it sounds like this is obviously something on your mind frequently, you need to understand that you have to do what makes you proud of yourself. What you’re doing, it’s not wasting time. You have two different reasons to get you education now. Your father can’t tell you ‘I told you so’ when you haven’t given up on yourself.
Bravery, honor, respect… it comes in many manifestations. They may be critical of you and your brother’s choices, but only you two can decide where that’s constructive or not. I want you to tell them your child exists for the sake of them one day wanting to meet him. If they’re not going to be around, then that’s on them. Like my parents, they’ll miss out. Maybe our baby won’t be named after your father, but it’ll still have your, his, last name. And that’s important, lineage is important to me.Â
Thank you, I needed that.
Will you come with me? To tell them.
