Finally.
Life needs to stop, like just stop for a moment. Just because FYP is ending it doesn’t mean everything else can start
The dilemma of a good book begins at the third chapter. You devoured the first chapter after the first page as you throw yourself into the narrative, high on the realisation of the brilliance of the writer. The second chapter cost you the embarrassment of crossing the platform for a return trip because you've missed your stop. But the third, that's when you realise what a gem you have in your hand. It's when the dilemma kicks in. Do you indulge your cravings of instant gratification and let the book consume you? Or do you ration it out like somebody who has gone through famine and recognised the joyful delight of glorious manna from heaven? But then again there is no point in this dilemma because it will end when the train announces the arrival of its dear green friend, TANJONG PAGAR.
You talk about the past, so I think it's only right that I talk about the future. When talking about exchange, I used to tell people it was the best part of my life and that everything was downhill from there. Turns out, it's not so true. It was just a taste of what it's like in the future, going to gigs, cafe-hopping and travelling with you.
Recently, I have been asked to find a videographer to shoot the wedding video for #ofangieandstef and it has been a challenge, wading through the thick cheesy slush of video portfolios of the options I’ve seen so far. There seems to be a startling rigidity to which so many people stick to and I have begun to wonder what exactly binds these videographers to the format.
It’s definitely not cost because wedding videos are not exactly cheap so it got me wondering about the point of the video. Who is going to watch it? Why do you want to make these people watch it?
I am beginning to pick up more and more videography understanding and as I am learning the WHYs seemed to be asked a lot less.
So why, why do we need a video? What makes a wedding video something worth having and shooting?
Taking a leaf out of my daily work, I would want the video to tell the story of the couple more than the wedding itself no? Instead of slider shots of the dress, the shoes and what not. I don’t need to remember the details on the dress or my suit which will wear out in (hopefully) a couple of decades.
I want to remember the commitment, the sacrifices, the joy and the emotions of a life event worth celebrating with a couple of hundred of people. When the champagnes are popped and the flowers are dead, all that’s left is the journey of the two of us into the sacrament of marriage.
The beauty of a video is that it is able to bring you away from reality and immerse you into the moment captured on 24fps. And to make the video re-watchable, shouldn’t the video be a tool — a compass — that guides us back to each other from the stormy seas of life?
A true north that helps to remind ourselves of the reason why we started our journey in the first place. This is by no means an exhaustive exploration of what I hope the video will encompass but now let’s find a videographer first, shall we?
So any recommendations?
Fake it till you make it
You check your Nuzzel, your friends are pushing your stories to you, you know there’s a wishb but you tell yourself nobody cares. It’s worthless right after they click retweet anyway.
Your boss shares the story, it echoes through the walls. Maybe this is it, that elusive, deceptive and manipulative friend called purpose, finally taking a second glance at you.
You wipe the sweat on your forehead with your oxford sleeves, smiles fakely as you feel another bead roll down your battered back. An 80-200 on one side and a H5 on the other, it’s the shoes and not the player.
Fake it till you make it, you repeat to yourself, refusing to break eye contact.
