Newly single mom, April Kepner, is experiencing a big transition. There’s the adjustment from co-parent to single parent, resident to attending, and her only child, Alaina, becoming a kindergartener.

Jackson Avery knows a thing or two about adjustments; having made the biggest one when he switched his major from Pre-Med to Early Education during his sophomore year of college. Now a kindergarten teacher, Jackson is satisfied and doesn’t realize what he’s missing until he meets the mother of a little girl who’s made the first day of school a struggle.
