The first wave of Syrian refugees arrived in Canada last night! Our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was there to greet and welcome them personally. Upon landing each refugee was given a social insurance number and a health care card - instant, free access to Canadian healthcare. Also! Winter coats 😂❤️

#WelcomeToCanada and #WelcomeRefugees have been trending for the last day in Canada, and scrolling through those tags I am both a little shocked but also infinitely thrilled and emotional about the fact that I have not seen even a single xenophobic tweet. Not even one.

I’ve been crying in and off since 7pm last night going through the Twitter tags and seeing so much love.

It’s really nice to feel that warmth of Canadian pride again, after ten shameful years under Harper. It’s good to feel like this again.
