Good Company
Theo and Autumn spent the rest of the afternoon together into the evening. The sunset looked so beautiful, so they decided to walk along the shore also. Their conversations and laughter filled the air with genuine joy. At first, Autumn only thought that Theo had a way with words just to impress others, mostly women. But now she was beginning to see more than she originally thought. Theo was letting his guard down, and for once, so was she.
A Chance
Autumn: What are you talking about? Theo: I don't want you to avoid me like you have been these past few weeks. Autumn: And what is it you do want then, Theo? Theo: You, sweetheart. Autumn paused for a moment, shocked by his answer. Theo: Look, I may not be perfect, and yeah, you had me pegged from the beginning. I was a playboy, emphasis on the was part. But I think you're a really cool person, and I haven't been able to get you or that kiss out of my head since that night. If you can honestly say you don't feel anything for me at all, just say the word, and I'll leave you alone. Autumn went to open her mouth, but no words could escape. Theo: I know you feel it too. Just give me a chance to show you I'm all in and all for you. Looking into his eyes, Autumn could see he meant every word. Finally, she broke her silence. Autumn: One chance. Theo: That's all I could ask for.
Finally a Break
After a few weeks of nonstop work and trying to avoid a walking, talking magazine ad of a man, Autumn was in desperate need of a break. She decided to grab one of her favorite books and head to the Summer festival for some nice fresh air. Just when the chapters were getting good, a familiar figure appeared in front of her. Theo: I thought that was you. Autumn: Oh great. Are you stalking me now? Theo: Wow, it's almost as if we live in the same town. Can't a guy get some fresh air? Autumn: Not when I'm here at least. Theo: Ouch, so you avoid me at work and out of work too? Autumn: As much as I can. Theo: What if I don't want that?
Hard Work
The next couple of weeks were a bit of a blur for Autumn. Imagine how hard it was to keep Theo out of her head, all the while he was the one training her. He tried to talk to her or pull her aside, but Autumn refused to have any conversation at work. Every day, he got harder and harder to stay away from. Like something kept pulling her to him at each glance and every smile.
It's Complicated
As soon as she got home from work, Autumn put on the comfiest of clothes and plopped on the sofa with a huge sigh. Why did he have to be her supervisor? How was he so cocky? And why can't she stop thinking about him?
Not Just Coworkers
Theo Knight grew up with wealth, charm, and a reputation as Saffron Bayâs most eligible bachelor. With his parentsâ money at his fingertips, he could have coasted through lifeâbut ambition drove him to build his own empire. Brave, athletic, and effortlessly irresistible, Theo had everything he wanted⊠except something real. That all changed the night he met Autumn Bell. She saw through his smooth talk and challenged him in ways no one ever had. One impulsive, tipsy kiss turned his world upside down. For the first time, love wasnât a gameâit was everything. Theo traded in his commitment issues for a heart full of hope, becoming a hopeless romantic for one woman, and one woman only.
Setting Boundaries
During their lunch break, Autumn pulled Theo to a table away from prying ears. Autumn: I know you think this is hilarious, but you'd better keep your mouth shut. It was one kiss, and that's all it will ever be, got it? Theo: You sure that's what you want, sweetheart? Autumn: You are my supervisor, seems like a conflict of interest, don't you think? Theo: So you admit you want this too? Autumn: Not on your life playboy. Let's just forget it ever happened just be the coworkers we are, okay? Theo: As you wish. Autumn: Good. Now I'm going to actually go enjoy my lunch. Have a good lunch, Theo. Autumn left Theo and went on her way. If only she could hear the thoughts in his head the second she left.
Not So Strangers
The excitement from the night before quickly faded as Autumn arrived at the office for work and was greeted with a surprise. Imagine her shock when Theo walked in right behind her, into the same office. Theo: Well, hello again. To be honest, I didn't think I'd see you so soon. Last night was so good, you're stalking me now? Autumn: Shhh, don't say that so loud. People will get the wrong idea, idiot! Theo: Ouch, you wound me. Autumn: Keep your mouth shut for now, we'll talk at lunch, deal? Theo: You got it, sweetheart.
Left Hanging
Autumn turned to leave, and Theo shouted, desperate. Theo: When will I see you again? Autumn: Maybe someday. if you're lucky. Theo: *Whispering to himself* What a woman. Autumn got back to her apartment and couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear until she fell asleep. That kiss made her heart jump out of her chest. Would she ever see him again? Tomorrow she starts her new job, she needs to get her mind straight, or at least try to.
Better Luck Next Time
Their lips finally parted as last call was announced. But Theo wasn't ready to say goodnight yet. Theo: What do you say about continuing tonight elsewhere? Maybe your place or mine? Autumn: Hm, tempting playboy, but you can't always get what you want.
Wowza
As they danced, their bodies in perfect tune, both had that look on their face yearning for more. Autumn gave in to Theo's temptation and kissed him. Not to toot his own horn, but Theo has shared plenty of kisses in his days. But this kiss felt different. It was as if his whole life had been in black and white, and just now he could finally see color. Wishing he could stop time so that this kiss would never end. Oh, and you know Autumn felt that too.
Getting Closer
A slower song began to play, and Theo decided to make his move. Theo: Care to dance, sweetheart? Autumn: Oh, what happened to Mr. socially awkward? Hm? Autumn took his hand, and the two held each other closer with each beat of the song. Theo: Gotta keep you on your toes somehow, don't I? Autumn: At least you're far from boring. Theo: Wow, was that a compliment? Autumn: Don't let it go to your head. Theo: Too late.
What do we have here?
As the night flew by, the distance between Autumn and Theo kept getting smaller and smaller. Theo was used to getting close to women pretty fast, but what he wasn't used to was someone seeing all his moves from a mile away and still playing along.
Theo: You know, believe it or not, I used to be socially awkward in these types of places. Autumn: That's hard to imagine, I mean youâre probably one of the hottest guys in this park. Theo: Hey, what do you mean, âprobably one ofâŠ?!â Autumn: Eh, maybe in the top 10, anyway. Theo: Do you, like, make official Top 10 lists as a hobby? Is that thing girls do? Autumn: Really want the answer to that? Theo: Kinda yeah! Autumn rolls her eyes and smirks as she walks to the bar for another drink, Theo trailing behind her like a lost puppy. What is this feeling deep in his chest?
Playing Along
And so Theo and Autumn enjoyed their evening. The air was filled with drinks, dancing, and lots of cheesy pick-up lines. All of which Autumn teased but played along. She was here for just a bit of fun after all, right?
Stranger at the Bar
Autumn decided to go out, for once, to a bar to have some fun. Feeling content, she was minding her own business when a handsome (and he knows it) somebody approached her. Stranger: "Excuse me, miss, you're way too gorgeous to be alone in this bar." Autumn: "How do you know I'm not alone?" Stranger: "Well, you aren't now. I'm Theo, and you are?" Autumn: "I was having a nice time. But you've gone and interrupted that." Theo: "My apologies, sweetheart. I can fix that for you if you'd let me, miss..?" Autumn: "Autumn, and alright, I'll bite. Show me what you got playboy." Theo: "With pleasure, Autumn."
A New Beginning
Autumn Bell grew up in the foster system, never knowing her parents and never being adopted. Her childhood taught her to be frugal and resourceful, always stretching what little she had. Hoping to be chosen, she became a perfectionist, while caring for other orphans nurtured her gentle, protective side. When the loneliness became too heavy, Autumn found comfort in booksâworlds where she could belong, if only for a while. Those stories sparked her lifelong dream of becoming a writer. Now an adult in Saffron Bay, Autumn has traded the orphanage walls for a small apartment and a job in journalism. Itâs not quite the dream, but it keeps her close to words and stories until she can publish her own. Brave, driven, and endlessly hopeful, Autumn Bell continues to write her way toward the life sheâs always imagined.
