see the thing is that people are attracted to women. i am very attracted to women. like if a fictional woman is my favorite character its often because i am sexually or romantically attracted to her (not all the time but still). this is a normal thing that no one is attacking. like even if you are a cishet man its okay to like women and want to seek out media that sexualizes woman so you can jork your pork. the thing is though that it is so obvious when this innocent thing progresses to the point where you genuinely dont see women as human, you see us as sex toys. like im ngl it is so fucking off-putting and disgusting when someone posts a screenshot of an average looking, modestly dressed woman coming out in a new game and calls it woke. they say disgusting things about female characters like this because god forbid we just exist right. this happens every fucking time like every fucking time a new game comes out where the character designers were thinking about the female protagonist as a human being first and a piece of meat never and it is impossible to look at as a woman without being sick to your stomach.
i fucking hate it when people complain about misunderstandings in stories. "why cant they just talk to each other!!!!" wait til you hear about this amazing thing called conflict
my hottest take is that the nuclear family isnt inherently evil. none of my distress was ever caused by the fact that i grew up in a nuclear family, it was caused because i was living with a bunch of maga idiots. and interestingly enough this distress only got worse when i went to visit my extended family because now i was surrounded by MORE maga idiots and people i disliked on a fundemental level. almost like it isnt really the amount of people or the family structure thats the problem lol.

i remember the first time i watched the devil wears prada and i thought it was pretty damn good, so i immediately looked to see what the fandom had to offer and ohhh my god. ohhh my fucking god. you people barely fucking WATCHED the movie. like you realize that miranda is the villain right. like you reaize that she is an objectively bad boss right
Imma be real...I understand the Nate hatred. No in fact I partake in it cause...He suffers from what I call...2000's normal guy boyfriend who is just normal enough you can take it as realist but once you pill over some layers...The man is a fucking man-child. Like sorry but no amount of defense can save him from criticism just for the Hot potato scene. Just for that, the hate went from "Okay we are stretching a bit here" to "Ok no you are being an asshole." Like fast.
Now onto the Miranda...First of all, the movie acknowledged that if she was a man, she would not be called a vilain, she would be called competent and lord above the fanfics would be so much worse, Male CEO in fashion who has a gay little lackey, loves his two daughters several times divorced man ? And he abuses his employees, baby i can see the fanfics. You do not want that.
Finally about the most popular pairing which is Miranda x Andy...What did you expect exactly ? They litterally have the most chemistry on screen. The most lines. And they are played by beautiful women. They are actively complex characters, despite Andy starting as a "Miss Everybody" she gains a personality, wits, ambition, betrays, reconcile (don't forget that Nate never apologized for his behavior btw) , and achieve her goal in the end which was to become a journalist...
Sorry I am very passionate about this movie, and the book it came from. So. Seeing criticism that are based on emotions instead of critically engaging with the culture around when the movie was made, makes me passionate.

Hi, thanks for responding! I hope it's okay to give my rebuttal. So, first of all, the hot potato scene. Nate was not the only person tossing the phone around, Andy's friends were, as well. Also, this is a very... idk, friend thing to do? They thought it would be funny, Andy didn't. Yes they should've apologized, and yeah, it was a dick move (esp considering that they know how horrible Miranda can be), but it wasn't like they shot Andy in the chest. I agree with your statement on Miranda wholeheartedly, though. Second of all, I didn't comment on the shipping? I don't hate the ship at all, and my gripe was with the mischaracterization, not with Miranda x Andy. I ship a lot of toxic femslash, too, so I understand the appeal. Lastly, I guess Nate didn't apologize for what he did... but from my perspective, he didn't HAVE anything to apologize for except for maybe the phone tossing. Andy lashed out at him, cheated on him (she didn't initiate the kiss, sure, but she didn't pull away), and missed his birthday for a job event. He definitely wasn't a perfect boyfriend, but I'd be upset, too. Also don't apologize! I love debate, and it's nice to hear from the side I was griping about :) thanks for stopping by!

You are correct, Nate did not partake in the hot potato scene, my biggest gripe with him specifically is before it started he was being very snarky toward Andy despite the fact she gave her friends gift the second before. Then they hear the phone ring (reminder they didn't say thank you when they received these gifts who are worth in the thousands of dollars) and do the hot potato scene. Then when andy leaves and call them assholes...They react as if she overreacted ? Like she gave you thousand dollars worth of gift from her shitty job, she does hate but everyone on this table understand it's necessary she does that right ? Like she said it. It's just a year, she gotta bear with it end of story. All she ask is a bit of support...and she got NONE.
Now onto the kiss. You know at first I did agree with you but i recently re-watched the movie and...Pardon if I am wrong but isn't the guy like a kind of big fish in the game ? Like he kissed her unprompted, she didn't reject it. Indeed. But from what we saw of Andy. She avoids conflict at all cost and is a rather meek miss everybody type of gal and is a new fish in the big industry that she NEEDS to stay in for a whole year...Now between any of us in this room, if she had rejected that guy openly, like let's just say she reject him, that publicly...She humiliates basically...Now a man humiliated who has a solid foot in the industry whereas you barely a new sprout that is threathened to be slaughtered at any point...You do not want to anger that guy. End of discussion. Miranda for all the qualities I give her or she has...Would not have defended Andy if she made ashame of Runway reputation by rejecting that investor. Now for everyone defense this is again a movie in the 2000's where getting kissed out of nowhere was still seen as mostly romantic where both parties kinda apply they love it instesd of you know. Rape. That's what it is when you kiss someone unprompted. But yes she did cheat but the reasons she did it to me makes it more forgiving. Cheating is bad though.
Now I did not say Nate being upset was unreasonable no. Although the work event was obligatory anyway But...He starts appearing unreasonable, when he starts being mad at Andy for her being late...He is a cook in NYC in the 2000's in a random small restaurants...What do you mean he doesn't know long shifts ? Overtime work ? And he also was the one who encouraged her to go to journalism, at least he was not too hot on the whole "Runway" thing from the start but he was being snarky with her and at the start I thought "Oh so he gonna be a good boyfriend for her, at least make a her a grilled sandwich, bitch about her job but never ever say it's her fault or that she changed too much...You know like a decent boyfriend."
The grilled cheese was burnt. He started getting mad at her when she said she started to like the job, understandable reaction from how she talks about it but again fashion can be interesting and she has to stay in the game for a whole ass year. So he can bear with it for a bit right ? Nope. Then the end of thr movie...I was mad because he was still mad at her while she was actively apologizing, like bro she did what you wanted, why are you still mad ?
Like again. I am not saying Andy has no fault, I am saying because we see the movei from her POV it makes a lot of sense what she does for what she does. Maybe if we had a friends or Nate POV i would be less harsh on my judgement but even the actor of Nate apologized for how his character acted so...I dunno.
